@@Mattshuckphoto You don't know "anyone" who earns a living with sports photography. It's definitely out there and the ones that do earn a living with it worked their asses off to get there.
Knee pads. I'm glad you mentioned them because they can really save your knees when you're out photographing all day sporting events like the US open or any other tournament style sporting event.
I've got that same ThinkTank bag and love it! one of the reasons I bought it was that it blends in with similar rolling bags and doesn't scream camera bag.
The "on a budget" set I started out with - and still today take on assignments when flying - is the EOS 7D II w/ the brilliant EF 300 f4.0 However the 1D-X II w/ EF 400 f2.8 is a basic combo you hardly get around.
I noticed that he says he carries at least two camera bodies sometimes three but he only pulled one out of the actual bag. The second came from somewhere under or behind the table and the third from a separate bag.
Hi Peter! Great video and a great gear you have! I have a question, I noticed one thing. You are not using any filters for your small lenese (cpl), why? Only beacuse cpl filter is "eating" the light?
Pretty sure if you look back, you'll see a filter on his 24-70 unit. I couldn't see the f/4 70-200. The large glass doesn't take front filters as just an FYI.
If you compare the version iii of the 600mm with the version ii I understand it’s lighter. But is it also substantially sharper? Or what other added value comes with it? I have the Version ii and was thinking to sell the version ii for getting a version iii. Thanks for any comment.
First and foremost I want to say thank you. All the gear, tech and feedback for others has helped myself as well as many others. I primarily shoot Motocross but also cover high school sports on occasion. I keep watching your gear and wonder how I could use what you have.I have 1 body, and dream of a 1DX as a second. Let alone a 1DX mkII as a primary some day. It will happen, just keep pushing. But, had you been put on assignment, what would you take to a Motocross track as primary gear? How would you shoot it? Thank you again for all the help!
Hello I'm looking to buy a new nikon camera for sports photography...I am deciding between the nikon d500, and Z6. Which one do you believe is the better choice? thank you!
With Basketball it really seems like the F4 isn’t going to be as clear as the 2.8. Did you pick the f4 because of the weight? I’m trying to decide what 28-70 to buy. I shoot games with the 70-200 f2.8
ive only ever gotten paid (well) for some hockey ive shot over the years so my sports photography "business" is less revenue heavy than yours Pete, but i run a 5D3, 5D4, 24-70 f2.8 mkII, 70-200 f2.8 mkII IS (i broke my mkI and there were very few used mkIs available) and a 300 f2.8 mkI IS on a SLIK monpod. i have a very similar Canon pad on mine as well. I also carry a nice sharp 1.4x converter but also a 600ex-rt and controller as well. post game festivities. i cant afford the 400 and definitely NOT a 600 but im only shooting HS sports primarily so i think im good to go...
Thanks for showing what's in your bag. I'm doing a lot of sport photography too. I 'm now using th 5d Mark II, because it is a good all-round camera and I do also other type of phtotography. But now I want to ugrate to a more specific sports camera, due to more fps and better focus. I know the 1XD Mark II is one of the best sports camera, but it is a bit to expensive for me. So which one do you recommend for a camera around 1000-2000 Euro? I self thougt to buy the 7d Mark II but now Canon coms with the 90D, do you think this one will be the upgrate for the 7d mark II? And how does both cameras works in low light?
Awesome, thanks. Getting into sports photographer. I have been using a 50 and an 85mm shooting at f2 in a basketball games. Did not think an f4 would be good for sports indoors.
@@scallen3841 Actually yes, first not everybody gets to shoot in great lighting for pro sports. Second, is the 7.5oz weight difference between the f2.8 and f4 really going to make a difference with your stamina, doubtful. If there was ever an all-out promotional plug for Canon's best and latest gear, this is it.
What if I show up Nikon D500 and a Tamron 70-200 ... and a Nikkor 70-300 (in case it is daylight) ... and maybe the 17-55. In terms of %, how much I can achieve in comparison to your gear.
Remember guys. He's a professional. His employers will pay him so that he can afford the best equipment to deliver them the top line results they expect.
I don’t know the USA tax system at all, but where I live a business would claim back the sales tax and register all that equipment as business assets and insure and depreciate it accordingly. Also there may be sponsorships from Canon...
Funny how none of you commentors took into account that this is work equipment. Oh and I cracked up when he took out the 600mm and said it's "light" lol
Every job requires the right tools. Sony is changing the game, absolutely. But it isn't that long that Sony has this combo available. And CPS offers some outstanding deals to pro sports photographers. I change my camera bodies every other year and maybe one day it's time to go mirrorless. We'll see.
I like how he casually says "I usually have three 1dx mark 2's "
That deserves a firm smack
@Mikko Robles does he own them or does nikon provide it to him

But in this video. It looks pretty darn small. Omg.

What are your thoughts on a 135mm 1.8 for indoor sports?
That moment when he pulls out the 1dx and you think "out of my range"...then he pulls out 3.
Ok now let's do a "normal sports photographer" bag.

These may be issued to CPS members from Canon reps.
But you still use the 70-200 2.8 for basketball, right? Or you stick with the f4? Great Video Peter! Cheers

Why do you have both the 400 and 600 when you can simply attach a 1.4 converter to your 400 and you have a 600?
No Eos R as a back up and save some weight?
Sir you said keep it simple with a 45000$ setup
"spend a lot of money" it doesn't get much simpler than that.
can someone plz tell me why its necessary to have more than one body, let alone 3
Two reasons: use of different lenses / focal lengths at one time, and also to have a backup in case another body fails.
Some photographers use their camera remotely esp at football, soccer game etc.
Please Peter give me one thing of your setup and then... I can even die? hahah
you have 3 1dx? hollysh*t, can i have one, lol
