Hey for all you haters out there. I have a 828 Mk III since it came out, and when I got the new iMac Pro, it could not connect to the machine. So I got a Scarlett 18i20 and used the 828 mk3 for additional inputs, send them to adat to the Scarlett. I have a Dave Smith Tempest drum machine with 6 outs and for a long time could not figure out how to get the outputs to be individual tracks in Logic Pro. I just watched the vid above, and realized I didn't know about the "mixes" option. So after a few hours of effort, I now have each pair of ADAT channels (A1-2, A3-4, A5-6) each to an individual mix track with the other channels muted that I didn't want to go onto the isolated channel. It works KILLLER!! If any of you crybabies where smart, you would buy a few of these for cheap and use them as extra input devices. I have a old MacBook Pro that has older OS on it and could use it to use the Cuemix FX software to set up the 828 mk 3, and for those of you that are crying, you just haven't spent the time to understand it. IT'S KILLER!! now I have 20 inputs into Logic Pro X!! it's awesome!! Thanks Motu. The only reason I didn't buy another MOTU is because they didn't have an interface yet that would work on the iMac Pro. . I love Motu. but the Scarlet is nice as well, but does not have the Cuemix FX . That is one of the best parts of MOTU.
Is there a way to setup a mix that goes straight out to my main outs (monitors) and another that sends to headphones. I want to be able to mute my monitors when tracking. Thanks
@@Depuratumba what I do with my ultralite mk3 is place a “jumper cable” from main outs to input 1-2, then main out from analog out 1-2. you loose 2 ins and 2 outs (which sucks) but you get the much needed control. I think it’s the best overall workaround.

Allright, so I just got a 896MKIII and an 8PRE for our studio and I have some questions that you might be able to provide some insight on. 1) I am well aware the master volume is hard-wired to the master headphone jack. I have a headphone monitoring system on order but still a week away from that and I would like to be able to get an identical headphone signal for BOTH jacks. Is this possible with the jack being hard-wired in this way? Also, would it be possible to send a STEREO L/R signal on the XLR outs? I can settle for 8 mono mixes if it comes down to it, but would like to know if going 4CH stereo is my only option. 2) This is a dumb question I think I know the answer to, but just in case: I have the 8PRE hooked up via ADAT. I was disappointed to discover the 896 does NOT have a MIDI I/O (really guys?) Most of my gear can be hooked up via USB but my old school clients are bound to bring in their Akai's, Kurzweils's and god only knows what else from the 90's. I don't assume MIDI can be transmitted via light-pipe (and I hope I'm wrong). So if it comes down to it, I'll just buy a separate MIDI interface that won't clutter up my rack, or can I buy a firewire card and SIMULTANEOUSLY use the existing MIDI port and light-pipe? Other than that, I am more than pleased with the setup. The CueMix software is obviously not for amateurs but I'm a dinosaur so I find it to be highly intuitive. The separate DSP on board is a god-send and pretty much gives me a reason to sell my ACP88 in pursuit of other gear ;-)

In the voice over to this video you use the term "simply" do this. Easier said than done! And I'm supposed to have at least half a brain being in the medical profession.
Cuemix seems pretty simple and intuitive to me, after just playing around with it for a bit. Perhaps if someone hasn't used a mixer before it might seem cryptic. Searching around on the internet for some basic mixing tutorials might help, as I imagine this video wouldn't be very helpful for someone who isn't familiar with things such as multiple busses and send/return effects. Also, the Motu forums are a pretty helpful resource.
This software is free, right? I assume it's part of the driver download package from Motu? I just took my old 828 MKII out of moth balls. Hoping it will work well in windows 10! Was about to buy a new audio interface and remembers 'Hey, I have a killer audio interface with 8 stereo channels!' LOL. Funny how much gear we forget we even have as time goes on.
@@motuTV Thank you! I have it all setup, but latency is just not so great sadly. Window 10. Motu ASIO maybe not so great or I'm missing something in how I set things up. Who knows. Cool that it works at all. Nice to see it running again.
Agreed! This is the worst software ever. Even sometimes when I don't change settings, all the sudden, no audio. After messing around with it for hours trying to figure out why I have no audio, I have to change my configuration to fix it, meaning it messes up everything I had set before. I used to be able to plug headphones into my motu, and as you would expect, sound would be routed from my monitors to my headphones, but no, cuemix decides to change that, and now I have to go in and fuck around with it just to route signal to my headphones, and sill can't get it right. What a mess.
Im trying to use my mk3 traveler for doing some room tests with R.E.W, but for it to work i need the monitoring to be off, the problem is that there is no way to controll the volume anymore after that, there should still be some controlls right ? but i cant find them in the Cuemix. REW uses Asio drivers which bypass windows volume controls, meaning it would play the sweeps at full volume making my ears bleed,. Anyway the soundcard's mixer panel must have level controls besides those used for monitoring right?

i love the cuemix ! but i hate the service, i had a problem with my 896mkIII, it turned it self off and on and each channel has the problem that it is too quiet, and if if turn the -20db switch on and off and then it`s okay again. i video taped the problem and sent it with the 896mkIII back, and after a few weeks i got it back with a rude note like "these things don`t work properly with the master volume turned off" ... cuemix is the only reason why i stay with motu, but i was / i am so pissed about spending 1000€ for a interface wich isn`t working properly an getting such a statement by the technical support
Sounds like you're well set up ! If you look at my videos and the minmum requirements compared to your endeavours, you'll see why I thought the Motu was overkill for my needs. I only bought it because it was only a tenner at the bootfair, in minty mint condition and working order. I didn't know much about them, but I knew they were good and I was looking at a steal ! I've since bought an M-audio quattro which sounds superb. However, like the Motu, it don't like win7 and M-audio have no drivers!!

I do use asio, but with none of the above. I've been using Ableton which is ok up to a point, but I've found it very temperamental. Before that I used Project5 which I found very reliable, but a bit cumbersome when it came to simple things like fade ins/outs. Just lately I've been using reaper, which I quite like. Again, bearing in mind that my recording needs are quite simple compared to yours. All I need for most tracks is a couple of mono inputs and a few vst synths to create beats/backing

a MOTU 828 mkii can't run all the facilities of CueMix FX. Only mkiii-tagged models (828 mkiii, Ultralite mkiii, 896mkiii) can. CueMix DSP is the name for the software compatible with the mkii, and CueMix FX is the name for the software compatible w the mkiii. This is related to the 'work' (processing) actually being done inside the MOTU DSP hardware - and they upgraded this from model to model. That processor is what the mkii/mkiii/mk4 reference stands for.
oh but it does love win7!!! May I ask what recording software you are using?? I bet you a million pounds that is the culprit!! Its the software that cant handle the ASIO drivers (the driver you better be using) Cubase, protools, nuendo, digital performer, logic and sonar are the ONLY software I would recommend for professional recording. Along with the Motu ASIO drivers...please tell me you are not using any other driver..
the 2408mk3 uses a PCI card...the 828 uses firewire, which is so troublesome if you dont have the right one installed. This is why motu designed their own card called the 424 pci card....zero latency!! It was designed to compete with the protools HD systems, and in imho...blows it away in sound quality. The 828 also has amazing quality...but is demanding on a computer. What you have sounds sufficient...but depends on how you use it...i record big live bands so your setup would not work for me.
i just bought this badboy. and although i love the quality i'm having a dick of a time trying to get audio out the headphones. anyone have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
@FBuilding I've found using less of the cuemix features keeps me less confused with my audio settings. I like to use it only for volume control and let my recording software handle the rest like setting up audio output. Afterall the main goal is to tighten your skills with your audio program to get better results not spend huge amounts of time with fx features with your audio card.

At least the old cuemix we could drag and make all channels visible, this one doesn't even do that! Absolute FAIL on MOTU's part.
Quemix FX does not work in Windows, the drivers are not compatable. If you buy this equipment you will not be able to monitor through Quemix if you use Windows. This company will not help you either so beware.
I have a Motu 828mk3 since 2011, and honestly, I never really understood this cue mix. I see general speaking ill of her. Little intuitive. For me the monitoring part is very complicated. Too bad the video wasn't made with examples.
I definitly understand, ive been there, but understand that Motu drivers do not like reaper. Ive used reaper too in the past when I teach recording (students had it installed already)...it is NOT professional. Cuemix doesn't keep your settings when it launches but you can save/load your presets. OR you can prepare everything on your Ultralite and uncheck "File > Hardware follows console stereo setting"

Thanks for the message. You're right, I will, looking forward to getting my head around it (although I still think it's needlessly complex).
You're not alone. 10 years and going through two Ultralites and still no idea how to use CueMix. Its really is overly complicated.
partymonsterTV same here... I've been using it for work an still don't know how to deal with output
Also, the Motu forums are a pretty helpful resource.
how map with mackie control protocol for the MCU Pro?
How come I don't see all those EQ and Compression features with my 828 MKII FW?
I don't know if the Mk2 has that stuff.
CueMix FX is included with the driver download. For driver support, please see this link:

@@motuTV Thank you! I have it all setup, but latency is just not so great sadly. Window 10. I've tried 128/256/512 and those are really the only realistic settings for VST work if you are trying to play live to into DAW. Motu ASIO maybe not so great or I'm missing something in how I set things up. Who knows. Cool that it works at all. Nice to see it running again.
Run asio4all! Working great! The motu asio does not work well w windows 10 imho.
What a mess to configure this audio device!... :-(
What a mess.
how do you render the result in the master track for example? can I use this FX for mastering?

Im trying to use my mk3 traveler for doing some room tests with R.E.W, but for it to work i need the monitoring to be off, the problem is that there is no way to controll the volume anymore after that, there should still be some controlls right ? but i cant find them in the Cuemix. REW uses Asio drivers which bypass windows volume controls, meaning it would play the sweeps at full volume making my ears bleed,. Anyway the soundcard's mixer panel must have level controls besides those used for monitoring right?
Thanks for writing. Please reach out to our Tech Support team directly for assistance on setting up the Traveler. Let us know if you have any other issues. www.motu.com/techsupport Thanks
i love the cuemix ! but i hate the service, i had a problem with my 896mkIII, it turned it self off and on and each channel has the problem that it is too quiet, and if if turn the -20db switch on and off and then it`s okay again. i video taped the problem and sent it with the 896mkIII back, and after a few weeks i got it back with a rude note like "these things don`t work properly with the master volume turned off" ... cuemix is the only reason why i stay with motu, but i was / i am so pissed about spending 1000€ for a interface wich isn`t working properly an getting such a statement by the technical support
These are garbage compared to RME interfaces
stil actual? how can it be setup with Motu 12A?
Sounds like you're well set up !
If you look at my videos and the minmum requirements compared to your endeavours, you'll see why I thought the Motu was overkill for my needs.
I only bought it because it was only a tenner at the bootfair, in minty mint condition and working order. I didn't know much about them, but I knew they were good and I was looking at a steal ! I've since bought an M-audio quattro which sounds superb. However, like the Motu, it don't like win7 and M-audio have no drivers!!
Hey there!
How i can use phones for cue listening in Ableton?
I set up cue out in Ableton 7/8. In CueMix FX choosing for headphones 7/8 outputs, but still have no any sound.
Pls help.

What computer are you using? Motu loves Windows7. You have to run a decent computer or you will have all types of issues.
Cue Mix does not work on Mac OS Catalina? How do i route my inputs 1-8 to adat from the front panel? Is it possible? Thanks!
Hey thomas did you ever get an anwer to this? I'm trying to route my 896mk 3 inputs to my UA Apollox8p using ADAT and I can't get it to work. Any insight would be appreciated bro!!
@@bcdrummer1962 Download the latest software -- drivers etc...-- (896mk3 is not listed there!) and route things correct (busses) in cue mix and you should be fine!
Is there a way to integrate CueMix FX with a control surface like the Icon Qcon G2 or similar surfaces?
You can control this with an iPad via OSC commands! Perhaps this is possible with your control surfaces?
Porque cuando subo el trim en mi motu 4pre por encima de los 22db tanto cuando uso un previo o los 4 a la vez hace un hissssssssssss y ruidos que salen por los monitores, auriculares y se graban tambien . Que debo hacer?

My phones volume knob (on the front panel) doesn't work anymore, is there a way to set it from the cuemix? (ultra lite mk3)

why does my CueMix look nothing like this
Thanks for writing. This video is for the CueMixFX units. If your unit is built with CueMix DSP, the interface may look different.
a MOTU 828 mkii can't run all the facilities of CueMix FX.
So confusing and I only have a 4pre. How do I get output from main outs (1,2) and line out (3.4) at the same time?

Mmmh...Maybe a Tascam Portastudio would suit you better, no?
oh but it does love win7!!!
@dingostorm11 i know your comment is old, but i got the same problem. could anyone help ?
Anyone know how to turn down the sample rate of you interface via cuemix?
Hi,
I want to use Cuemix Compressor in my logic pro x stereo output.
How can I do that?
Please help
use Logic I/O plugin.
the 2408mk3 uses a PCI card...the 828 uses firewire, which is so troublesome if you dont have the right one installed.
I hope they update this software with labelling for Win and better GUI.
I'll pass this feedback along!
i just bought this badboy. and although i love the quality i'm having a dick of a time trying to get audio out the headphones. anyone have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
@jonnyrb1981 Yeah you can do that.
thanks a lot
A 424 PCI users ever going to see the cue mix upgrade?
motuTV ... Does anyone know where to find CueMix software for Windows? I have a Motu 828 mkll.. Thanks!
CueMix FX is installed as a program when you install the driver for this 828mk2!
@@motuTV I bought this unit used without the original CD of software. And I did download the driver from the Motu website, it didn't include CueMix..
@@themagicalducklings It's possible that you installed the incorrect driver - it will always install CueMix if it's the right one. Make sure you check your Applications!

lol
@ColdGripHandle This is the EXACT issue that brought me here... looking for solutions.
Not only did they Bullshit us with the input, EQ and FX portion but they gave us a lag infested GUI.
For the same price you can get into Sonar home recording version, which I believe is $99 US. Your headaches will go away I promise.
russian manuak please Motu mk3 ultralite!
CueMix for iPaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadd!!!!!
Cuemix is crap! It always resets my hard configured values when I open it. I use a Ultralite mk3 and I am better in turning the close standing nobs than using this Software
Cuemix doesn't keep your settings when it launches but you can save/load your presets. OR you can prepare everything on your Ultralite and uncheck "File > Hardware follows console stereo setting"
Sir ji...ye video hindi gave me
Holographic nightmare, wake me when it's over.
This isn't quite the same as with our Motu 8pre.

Gotta be the worst description of this really old and inferior software I’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t expect anyone to figure it out from this.
lol you heard wrong...come see my vids. Im running win7 64 bit, motu 2408mk3, motu HD192, Sonar X1, 8 gigs of ram, 4 hard drives and all the bells and whistles as far as preamps and mics. I also run Adobe Cs5.5 PS, AE AP ME...i love my daw!!!
I can run 34 soft synths, 150 tracks of audio running all my fav waves diamond plug ins...whats up! You need to build a custom computer...dont expect a best buy crap computer to work for you....cheers!
boy is this shit messy
I am having issues with my Ultralite MK3 hybrid using cuemix fx running on MacBook Pro A1 chip Monteray. For example, when engaging the EQ button on certain inputs the outputs are Boeing muted. Using EQ, Comp and so on causes extremely loud white digital nosse,- but only certain channels. The app even freezes from time to time. Are these knoen issues, or am i missing some important setup Stuff?
