I listened to this all the way to Disneyland when I was 4. When we checked into our hotel and everyone was getting ready to go explore Disneyland- I simply sat on the bed and started it again. Real men listen to The Black Hole- they don’t waste their time with Disneyland.
So did I! I had it on cassette before I owned any music. Lol. All I could remember was the name "Palomino". Duck Duck Go led me the rest of the way here. So glad I found it!
@@nicholaschan8750 And better in my opinion. Sure, we didn't have all the technological advantages back then that we have now. But look what happiness we found just with what we had! @@doctorclu No that's William Marshall (AKA Blacula). Percy Rodrigues did appear on a _Star Trek_ episode, though. Namely, he played Commodore Stone in the episode "Court Martial".
This is the story of "THE BLACK HOLE". You can read along with me in your book. You will know it is time to turn the page, when you hear the chimes ring like this... ...Let's begin now!
Having just watched the movie, this barely even resembles it. They completely cut Harry and Alex, the destruction of the Palomino, Kate's near-lobotomy, and removed any personality from the cast. Oh, and the scene with the meteor chasing the crew across the bridge was mirrored. I know they had very little run time on the record, but yikes! I grew up with this record, but wow, it's very very inaccurate. 😂 Edit: Thanks for uploading, I'm glad I could hear this again!
I actually think it's better than the movie, even though the deaths are removed and Maximilian isn't as scary. The narrator did an amazing job! The special effects also hold up a lot better as still pictures and it leaves more up to the imagination. As a kid, I really loved the shot of the sentries getting blown to pieces and assumed the movie must have looked amazing. Unfortunately, I was disappointed several years later when I caught it on TV.
I still have these somewhere in storage I need to find it!! And Percy Rodriguez did the narration whaaaaaa?!?! Thank you so much for posting and bringing back the memories
Oh, this is so goofy, lol. I had this record book when I was a child and I took it very seriously. I listened to it over and over again. I could practically quote some of it as your video was playing, haha! Great memories!
I noticed all references to Booth and Durant are removed. I guess they didnt want any people dying in a childrens book. And Reinhart turned the crew into robots instead of lobotomizing them...
I had this but at the beginning it said, "This is the story of the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, the black hole, I got so used to it, I was kind of expecting to hear that. Now I'm a little disappointed lol.
I had the full-LP version of this, which was not only longer but had the actual cast’s voices and the actual lines from the movie. How odd that they re-recorded it. (Assuming this isn’t just speed adjustment to avoid a strike.) maybe they couldn’t come up with a short enough edit of the actual soundtrack.
The only voice actors I can identify in this read along version are Percy Rodrigues as the narrator and the late Linda Gary (He Man and the Masters of the Universe) as Dr. Kate McCrae. Star Trek fans will recognize Percy from TOS episode Court Marshall as Commodore Stone.
I'd never heard of this format before and I have seen the film, once when I was very young. I remember thinking 2 things: 1st Old Bob is so cool 2nd WTF is going on with the weird ending Even younger me felt robbed of an ending for a great story.
I used to love Disney as a child, timeless classics like Snow White, Fantasia, and masterpieces like Old Yeller. And this movie, a merge of timeless elegance and sci fi together. But now Disney is heading for a "black hole" of it's own doing. With one of the worst slaps in the faces of Star Wars fans with The Last Jedi (should have named it Social Justice Wars, Rise of the Snowflake) and it's political agenda seeking properties, it's no wonder Disney cancelled the reboot of The Black Hole. Probably for the best, I couldn't imagine how much powerful characters like Max Schell would be hacked up to insure Political Correctness.
@@T.R.R.Jolkien I actuall have fun rewatching Rogue One and Solo. Yeh stopped with Last Jedi on the latest Star Wars trilogy. Marvel movies have been a lot of fun. @@T.R.R.Jolkien Ha, didn't notice that, I am a bit "color blind". I just knew that Tarkin was originally white (and love what they did recreating him) and Krennic was just well played. Don't worry though, there are plenty of other times for "non-whites" to play the bad guy in the Star Wars universe, such as Gideon in the Mandalorian. That actor does a great job of making a villain I just want to reach through the screen and punch. :D
I have not heard this in over 40 years, those chimes are unforgettable. For 10 minutes and 18 seconds I was back somewhere in 1979-1982 again.
These read alongs do that. For me, it’s the Star Wars books and planet of the Hoojibs, and the Wrath of Khan.

The narrator has done so many trailers for tv and movies. The sound of his voice brings back a flood of memories from my childhood.
Frank Langella?
Percy Rodriguez@@padawanmage71
It's Percy Rodriguez. His voice was inescapable back then. I think the first thing I ever heard him do was the trailer for the original "Jaws."
Remember when they not only trusted kids to handle darker, edgier material, but they put it in a frickin Disney book with a record in the back?
