If Mark Martin would have driven like Austin did last night he would have won two championships not counting the one NASCAR stole from him and gave to Earnhardt.
He didn't do that because he had respect for the other drivers and wanted the respect back. What happened last night was a demolition derby on the last lap.
if Mark Martin drove like Austin he would have had 4 career wins and be 28th in points every year.
If MM drive like AD did, we wouldn't RESPECT MM for the career he had and the driver he was. 🤔

In fairness, I've never seen many Cup Guys come from that far back. Dillion is not near the front very often. Those starts are tricky. He messed that up and crashing was an amateur move move like what we see in the Truck series. Sad as it negated a great race for RCR. Even with the win, think Dillon is still is like mid-20's in points. The hook 'em right rear is very dangerous and all at Front pack. That could have been way worse.
There is a Danger in getting too WWE that NASCAR can lose the reputation they have Earned of being some of the finest Drivers in the World.

The spotter informs him that someone is inside and to wreck him too, the throttle response indicates Austin listened to his spotter, step by step.
No it doesnt the throttle response was him trying to get to the line first. Dillon was driving the middle lane on the front stretch all night. he came down enough to get around around logano after dumping him (yes he obviously dumped logano) and from there denny came up for an early block and spun himself. If denny had stayed low he wouldve won

@@ronaldsmith2343 not even, watch the film, you can clearly see denny comes up out of the bottom lane crossing the lane lines and dillon stays in his lane the whole time. denny didnt expect him to still be there and hooked himself.
There is the "bump and run" on short tracks, and then there is the "Bonzai, full speed ahead into the corner Kamakasi move" When you have run out of talent, desperate people make desperate moves.

In the end it won't matter because Dillon won't make it past the first cut ..... A 32nd place driver doesn't magically become a top 10 driver after winning a single race, especially winning the way he did. I doubt we'll see any retaliation from Logano or Hamlin because they are consistantly in the top 10 and Dillon is consistently sub-20th and likely will never be close enough
We need Biff back in a competitive car. Also has to be a Ford. Even just for one year. RFK one final drive?
He'd be 55 and other than a few starts for NY Racing has been out of the sport for nearly 10 years. I could get behind a one-off race.
I’d like to see some of my retired favourites do a charity race or something, get the Biff, Edward’s, Johnson, Earnheart jr, etc …on a short track! 😂

@@aaronkass1420 I figured he would never. But a man can wish. I worked in the truck shop at Roush in Michigan, after Greg moved up to Busch. Everyone talked insanely high about him.
It made for an exciting finish and should make things more interesting in the coming weeks.

Agree with you 100% - you just cannot drive through another racer to win. Hamlin? Not sure about that part of the incident as Dillon at 100mph is traveling 146 feet per second and while reflexes of a race car driver at full adrenaline boost is high but there are car limits as well. Listened to Larry Mac yesterday on Sirius and couldn't believe his waffling comments that RCR really deserved this win and Dillon did what he had to do (kinda paraphrased)

I've never seen Logano ram in to a car from 4 or 5 car length back. Bumping and rubbing is fine, ramming in to the car in front of you is not racing.

@@oktoday8323 Couldn't agree with you more. I' also am a true fan. I get to 8 or more races every year and I watch the truck series, Xfinity and Cup races. I'll be in Daytona for the Coke 400. I'll catch three of the Chase races too. I can't get enough of Nascar.
I honestly don’t know why Austin didn’t take the top on the restart…that seems to always be the preferred lane, they always say they get a better launch up there. Maybe he was afraid if he didn’t get clear the 22 would just take him in real high and push him out of the groove? But yeah, I don’t wanna see guys cleaning each other out for the win. Being aggressive and using the bumper is one thing. Flat out wrecking two cars intentionally is not cool.
I’ve always thought Austin Dillon was a punk, and that move just strengthens that opinion.
Exactly if he took the top on that last restart he would have cleared 22 like the 22 did him, he'd have been good and nobody would have gotten wrecked cuz he had drove away from everybody.

Seriously? Even though disadvantageous, Austin didn't take the top because of Joey's reputation as an aggressive driver and knew when push came to shove, Joey would run him to the wall if he was on the outside. Not saying that makes what Austin did legit but let's not act like this doesn't happen regularly. I say let the drivers deal with it as they did with Chastain.

It's the same stuff every weekend with Nascar that's why a lot of people stopped watching it.
When you put two of the best guys on restarts against somebody who is one of the worst, this is the result. Truex didn’t clean anybody out in spring, he voiced his displeasure post race and life went on. He got beat on restart plain and simple with hard racing. But, that’s a winning veteran for you. Not a desperado who hasn’t led a lap all season til late in this race.

I watched the end of the race and yeah, everything you said was true. He had the field covered no doubt, that’s what it was. However, four lengths back just driving straight through when you can’t catch the guy is a bs move,and literally as you said, drove through it and then hooked Hamlin at the end, that kind of a driver, if he wasn’t Richard Childers‘s grandson, do you think he’s gonna get away with this ?…I don’t know ,it’s nice that they gave back second to Denny, but they need to pull the victory, dock the owner points and fine him. I don’t know if I go as far as making him sit out of the next Race, but if NASCAR doesn’t do something substantial about this, they’ve lost what respect as the sanctioning body that was left.

There is a great front shot of after the 22 spins, showing the 11 come up the track right into the 3. The 3 never moved from the dotted line mid corner. 11 took himself out.

You got it right! I’m trying to turn my F-1 friends on to Nascar…i’d be embarrassed to show them AD “winning” that race…it’s not the playoff format, it’s punk kids not having respect the the art of racing.
It looked like Hamlin came up to try to block or he got loose.

Nascar should set aside the finish of this race, big fines and point's need to be deducted. If I were joey or denny that chump wouldn't finish a race for the rest of the season

If his car was so good he wouldn’t have to drive through Joey. Under the watchful eyes of NASCAR it’s all ok.
No controversy. Lagano lagged back on the restart (against the rules), so Dillon made sure he still won the race. BTW, never saw a rule saying how far back you come from to do a "bump and run".
Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick in the booth calling the races 🏁 that would be pretty cool. Seeing Joey that fired up post race interview was epic 🤣 that caution that set up this free for all. Ricky Stenhouse, I notice the little things.

A mediocre driver in a mediocre car has a once in a season race. And acted like the spoiled brat he is perceived as. Sad that he will displace a competitive driver in the chase. Looking forward to see how creative Denny and Joey are at getting even.😁

I’m not a Dillon fan at all and hate what he did to win but being a long time Dale Sr fan I can’t say too much. Like mentioned Dale moved people but Dillon just cleaned Logano out. He had no chance of making that corner unless he hit the 22. At least Earnhart felt bad when he took Labonte out at Bristol. Rattled his cage a bit too much.😆

It does happen on local short tracks. Take a look at the last lap last corner of the Summer Showdown 2024 at Evergreen Speedway.
tough call on how far he went to get joey. but if you look at the film denny clearly came up on him crossing the lane line, likely expecting dillon wasnt there after all that, but dillon just didnt move up. denny kinda hooked himself.

Best finish in years 🏁 Logano got a bump from behind that gave him the momentum otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to pass. Dillon did a great job. Greg you and all the other crybaby’s need to shut your mouths because you and everyone else would have done the same thing. Don’t say that you wouldn’t.

Disagree. Dillion did not come from 4 car lengths back just because Gooey says he was. The 3 was right behind the 22 for at least a few seconds before he ran him over. A car coming from 4 lengths back is not going to magically make the corner just because it careens off a bumper ahead. If anything, it would make it even harder to make the turn at that point. Now if Dillon came sailing in UNDER the 22 and used him up like a guard rail, NOW you have an argument.

I got inside info, they are talking about suspending Austin for the entire duration of the playoffs. I work for NASCAR at Bristol Motor Speedway that's the only reason I know what I know. I hope they take everything away from him. If pop pop wasn't the owner any other owner would have parked his driver without NASCAR intervening. Joey was right out was a chicken shit nice. There are plenty drivers on a winless steak right now, but they ain't out there wrecking people for a win. There's no honor in winning like that. He has no talent. And R.C. shouldn't have the 3 and 8 car. It's a disgrace for him to have the most famous and legendary numbers in NASCAR. This means Kyle won't have nothing the rest of the session if Austin didn't get parked. They will give the 3 car all the good equipment hoping he will advance in the bracket, and Kyle will still be running in the back. Its bullshit. Period. The 22 and 11 will make sure he gets wrecked tho!!! This ain't the NASCAR I grew up on!! Go Kyle!!! Your still the man!!! The winningest driver in NASCAR. A win is a win is a win , this is exactly what happens when every car is equal , nascars fault. This is the kinda of drama nascar has been missing , so I welcome it. Before dale senior died he knew they wanted to make every car equal and he didn’t like it! I have a hard time believing if you had your last chance to win the race and be in the playoffs you would of made few sketchy decisions also
You guys keep saying he wasn't close enough to get to him but he did. You keep saying he was never going to make the corner but he did. then the 3 never turned in to the 11 car. the 11 car came up the track thinking he was clear. He's catching flack for wrecking the 11 too but the 11 wrecked himself. As far as the 22, i don't care. He got what he deserves. He did the same thing to the 19 car at Martinsville to get in the chase years back and won his 1st championship doing the same thing.
What it comes down to is this. What is/are the NASCAR rule/s on contact? Seriously.... from the rule book....

Oddly enough it’s seems that the 8 is the gentleman driver (with the exception of wrecking the 47 - but really how many wrecks has the 47 caused in his career) I hope the 8 gets a little more aggressive I would hate to see his years winning record fall this year

I’ve been in the same situation he was at the local level. Obviously the stakes weren’t even close, but still. I didn’t do what he did and I’d never seriously consider doing it, no matter the stakes.
If you see the right camera angle, it sure looks like Denny was loose and slid into the 3...
