Hi mark from england I use the 400 wet Stone and 1000 grip wet Stone and then use another strap.I find they are sharp
That was very helpful, always appreciate. Stay safe.
Thank you
I agree. If you’re not invested in expensive sharpening systems then we’re all doing what you just did. When I finally decided to take my plane irons and chisels seriously I literally spent an entire day flattening and sharpening all of them. That’s six chisels and seven irons. I did put a micro bevel on all of them solely for ease of a quick edge when needed. I did ultimately invest in the two double sided, extra wide DMT stones. I found whetstones too finicky to keep flat and wish now I had saved my money and started with the DMT stones. Though I do use the 4k grit whetstone for the final polish. Keeping it flat with one of DMT stones simplified that part. I also invested in the Kell #2 honing guide. It’s expensive but it’s stainless and brass with dual nylon rollers and so easy to control. I also have a few jigs to ensure the bevels are consistent. It was not a fun day sharpening all of them but glad I did and now it’s only maintenance. Luckily all my edges are old good quality steel so edges hold up for quite a while.
Good video with equally good info and no bs about doing it proper in minutes.
Thanks for the comments. After reading the article below I'm considering the Alisam or the Pinnacle. They do give the Kell high marks but I think I'd be more comfortable with a guide riding on the side of the stone.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. You didn’t talk about the 2 sided water stone as to which one you used, course or fine. I thought diamond cards needed to be lubricated, not used dry. I have seen lubricants such as lapping fluid, water, WD-40. Any recommendations. I am glad you pointed out that you should only draw the cutting side towards you and not to push the chisel away from you. What about a leather strop? They seem to put a final sharp edge on the chisel. Any discussion or feelings about a secondary micro bevel on the chisel. What was the length of your wood jig to get a 25 degree bevel?
Sorry, I only used the coarse side of the stone. If I could find a more aggressive diamond plate than 240 I would use that.
Yes, the diamond plates should be lubricated, I just used a little bit of Windex. I stopped using oil a long time ago because soapy water works great and clean up is much easier. You just have to keep everything wiped off.
The micro bevel isn't going to make it cut any better, it will just make it quicker to get a sharp edge the next sharpening. That's why I didn't bother honing the entire edge of the chisel. As long as it's smooth at the tip that is all that matters.
I've never stropped my woodworking tools. This guy makes a good argument that it may be overrated:

do you recommend stropping? Rob Cosman says shapen in 5 seconds or less, but that is based on the back haven been flattened.
I've never tried it on woodworking tools, never found it necessary. When I sharpen knives I do strop the blade on the smooth side of a dry leather belt (no compound). This guy does some testing on stropping:

no fast way. I can spend 30-45 minutes on a new blade to create a "shape" edge but then touchups are quick and simple afterwards
