About hot water boils faster. Cold water actually does. But if you want that to try you need one at room temperature or so (and call that cold) and one from fridge (a lot cooler than room temperature one) and boil it to same temperature and then do the test when you start boiling both.

I'm really surprised the polyester doesn't just melt after being boiled for a hour! I've always been told you can't dye polyester or polyester blend, which has made me a bit sad about my fav baggy black jeans which have faded so much. I might give it a go though!
Yes try it out for sure! Worst that can happen is they don’t get that dark when you dye them :)
