Hi u can. I had done winter internship at NIT jaipur. You can start applying 1 month before your semester breaks starts. Like I had started applying in month of Nov since sem breaks for winters starts from December second week...
Didi I along with my 3-4 friends want to do a research internship....so can we apply in the form of a group....means, can I write in the email that I along with 3-4 of my friends want to do internship under you?
See it completely depends on prof...if he is already working on something and he need say one or two person for it then he won't take you all. Again it depends on profile of each one of you. But If ppl have a problem statement on which you 3-4 of you want to work then chances are high.

What u can do is try mailing individually ...and when response comes from prof then you can ask him saying that u have group of 3-4 ppl and want to work together.
