Oh , I remember these . I am 72 so I grew up with these . Hurst was king . Ford and MOPAR had them from the factory installed in the muscle cars . In my senior year of high school I owned and drove a 1968 Plymouth GTX 440 magnum with a Hurst 4 speed with a positive track rear end .
I remember one of my brothers friends back in the late 80's baught a 1970 Nova that had one of those shifters , I thought those were Awesome and always wanted to get one , never did but still would, to bad they don't make one that would fit a 1970 Karmann Ghia. Lol good video brings back some memories 👍
Before Hurst hooked up with Campbell and started building shifters, he had an auto repair and hot rod shop in a Philadelphia suburb. There was a house sitting on a corner and on the front lawn was a roller chassis with a Caddy engine mounted on either end. You would drive up the hill past the house and there was an old-fashioned garage - a series maybe six bays in a line, each with a pair of swing open doors. This was around 1959. My buddy had a 1968 Impala convertible. We went to Hurst to to have a dual exhaust system installed. Just a few years later we visited the shifter plant. Quite a change from the house with the two -Cadillac engine chassis.
My first car was a 57 chevy 210 back in 1970. In around 73 or 74 I bought a new Ram4 and installed it on the m22 that was in the 57 at the time. LOVED that shifter although it was hard on syncros because of the faster shifting ability of the Ram4. Had the car until 93 when I totaled the car being transferred to Nellis AFB, NV from MacDill AFB, FL. Had a 396 by then and was still using the Ram4 shifter. I view it as the best manual shifter I ever used in anything. Don't know why they Hurst quit making them. - John. ps- I believe you could out shift an automatic trans with the Ram4!! Some may disagree
First time I saw one, I was 16 in '79. A friend gave me a ride in his 69 427 tunnel ram Camaro. I nearly shat myself with the coolness I witnessed that day. I've wanted a v-gate since. Do you have a set up for a 76 Duster with an 833?
nice t shirt
