    I'm in Florida, and the basic rule here is to stand 20 feet from the edge of any lake, because gators are FAST. Most urban lakes are perfectly safe though; if there are a fair number of ducks, swans and/ or geese on them, then you can pretty much count on them being gator free. Snakes aren't that big of a deal, except for coral snakes, which are rare. Spider bites may be the biggest threats; I've had a few from black windows. Very nasty! But my least favorite creature in the swamps? MOSQUITOES! The Summer swarms can grow vast enough that park rangers warn visitors of "blood sponge" conditions!

    My dad got taken down by an alligator from going out in nesting season into the marsh of south Louisiana. Fortunately the gator let go before doing the "death spin" otherwise i wouldnt be here. Being a huge outdoorsman and hunter in louisiana, i am used to avoiding poisonous cottonmouth snakes and clouds of mosquitos so thick theu can knock you over. The swamps are extremely inhospitable by most folks standards, I got lost in the woods of Scotland recently and was blown away that you could just lay down in the ground and things would not try to eat you. The Cajun culture of South LA is one of a kind as well, we (Lafayette, LA) have been rated the happiest city in the US multiple times because of the culture and having been all over the world for work, I concur 100%. If you get a chance to visit, I highly recommend!

      Cajun culture is very fascinating to me, it seems very «wholesome», perhaps for lack of a better term. Les Blank’s «Spend it All» from Cajun country in the early 70s is one of my favourite documentaries, warmly recommended in case you haven’t seen it. Of course you know the culture first hand but I’m sure you’d love it.
      I played a couple of Cajun records at a local festival here in Norway only last weekend. Dennis McGee and Joseph & Cleoma Falcon, recordings from the late 1920s. I have several others as well. Love that stuff.
      P.S. I do enjoy being able to go anywhere without fear of predators and poisonous animals, lol. Or worst fear would be vipers (vipers berus), but they’re very shy. I see lynx tracks from time to time, but haven’t heard of anyone being attacked by one.
      Anyway, sorry to go on an unasked-for ramble here. Greetings from Norway.

    At conferences with people from other countries, most of the best discussions are not about the topic of the conference, but in social conversations afterwards about life in other places. E.g. people thinking all of NY State is covered with concrete, or that there are lions in the streets of major cities in Ghana learning what it is really like.

    Dr. Campbell;
    Lobby to create an organization that is given the same global recognition as the WHO.
    Consider teaming up with a group of like-minded health professionals from around the world and forming an alternative world health organization. Then lobby to have the organization given the same global recognition as the WHO.
    Ideally, there should be a minimum of ten independent globally recognized health organizations. Each organization should have ten independent sub organizations. Each sub organization ten independent sub sub organizations. And so on until every qualified health professional has the ability to be a member of one organization/sub organization and vote on policies pertaining to health care. All election rules apply. (Regular elections, Term limits. No rigging, No commissions for brands of medication dispensed, etc.)
    By having multiple globally recognized health organizations, and, further, all decision making put to the vote, it will not be financially practical for the Pharmaceutical Industry to successfully bribe all health organization officials with policies that negatively affect the global community.
