Clock drawing test dementia

- The clock drawing test can be used to test patients you suspect might have mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease. It is a quick easy test that just requires paper and pen and can be done in under a minute in clinic.
My mothers doctor gave her this test. I almost cried when I saw that she had drawn all of the numbers on one side of the clock!
So sorry to hear this. Hope that she is ok.
@@DoctorODonovan she's doing fine. She still has great memory actually. I think that her memory changes up when ever she feels stress possibly.
@@MsAchampion I am glad to hear this!! Yes, stress is a terrible thing!
That reminds me of brain on fire
So sigma
I was working with an elderly woman in a nursing facility who had difficulty drawing the lines so I instead asked her to point on a circle where 12, 3, 6, and 9 would be located and followed up on that with having her place a finger on the clock face where the big and little hand would be for two different times. She had no difficulty whatsoever pointing to the correct locations. Because she was elderly, had a thick accent that was difficult to understand, and she resided in the dementia ward someone might quickly assume she failed this test because she couldn’t draw a line. She just had tired hands and some arthritis in her fingers.
thanks
There are as well many elderly that because they do not hear (or see) very well therefore misundestands questions, or the person who is talking to them do not wait enough long for the elderly to think about what to answer so they consider them having dementia.
I even met an elderly person who they said had with severe dementia problems who, when you patiently waited while the person was thinking, could answer the questions perfectly.
Where is the clock test for those who performs the tests?
Interesting video, but it would be more interesting to see more of how a person with dementia draws a clock, not just a quick photo at the end...
Paul Van Eede Thank You!
That would be a bit invasive
@@dinamosflams yes they aren't going to breach a patients confidentiality by showing them failing a clock test
Thank you Paul. It is really hard to film patients due to consent issues, but I agree.
My father fail on this what can I do 😭😭😭😭
My mother did this test. She did a good job drawing the round circle, and placed the numbers around the circle pretty well. Then to draw the hands to depict 10 to 11, she drew one hand to the ten, one hand to the 2, and one hand to the 11.
Lol it shows she still has a great sense of humor. None of our young people could do it. Give that in schools. They rely on digital and phones for that. Lol
My best friend was showing definite signs of dementia, so I asked her to draw a clock face. All her numbers were in the top right quadrant, and went 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.
Watched this aftr coming across the clock scene in hannibal
Interesting
When somebody asked me to draw a calculator and realized I couldn't, I was sent to the hospital. Now getting treatment! Thanks Netflix!
I confused the long ppinter woth the small one and switched then is that bad?
I gave this test to my Mom as i am a bit worried about her memory, she was able to draw the clock, put in correct numbers but she didn’t do the time correctly. I was really surprised and now feeling dreadful
I’m sorry - if you have any concerns please see your / your mums doctor
Sir can you please expln the interpretation of scores, in the case of measuring “planning ability “?
Wow thanks it helps alot . Rather asking my patient on mmse this is kinda more quick and i check it has a predictive value of 98% . Quick and straight forward for dementia screening
Thanks for watching.
I just tried this test and boy oh boy do i have a surprise. I drew the clock wrong way, i never expected myself to forget how to remember one simple clock, alao had a difficulty telling what time it is on the hands i dreew on it. Been experiencing this for months and i think it just got worse after i had a head injury, contemplating on telling my mother since im afraid she'll call me delusional but i realy wanna go to a psychologist
Thanks for watching & commenting.
How is everything going? Did you seek a doctor’s advice, and are you doing okay?
Are you ok? I hope you are doing better.
Who r u? Just curious u look really young to have dementia, usually happens in elderly mostly… But u did say head u had a head injury… I’d go asap even if I had to without my mothers consent
What does it mean if the patient forgets to of the numbers of the clock
Could be a sign of dementia or neurological disorder
Just saw this test done by a character of a tv show I watch often...The elder woman drew the entire clock....The only issue was that she placed all the numbers onto the clock but she placed them all in the lower left (Where the 7 would be on a "typical widely used" clock.)....She placed the hands correctly (At 8:00)...It was so sad...The woman's adult children had to fight the words to come out of their mouths that "Mom just might have Alzheimer's."
Thanks for watching this video
Thank you, doctor, for this clarification. Please. I am a clinical psychologist. I am looking for a way to correct the test. Where can I find it? Do you have a copy?
Hi. Please check out this link: www.cgakit.com/m-1-clock-test
Do you have any idea WHY 11:10 is the most commonly used time? Is there a reasoning behind this?
Hal is correct here.
Thanks Bailey!
Thanks Hal! Very insightful! xo
So glad you guys are so supportive of each other! Thanks for beating me to it!!
Is that adult test in dementia. they dont understand the clock after you told them
What is the time, CV-11?
You can ask any time but typically 5.10
It’s jank o clock
0:56 AT THIS POINT I COULD SMELL THE SHARPIE NO ONE IN MY HOUSE IS USING ONE
This test assumes that the patient knows what a clock is and how the numbers are laid out.
What if you are testing a tribal Indian from South America ?
Thansk for the comment - you are right that this test can only be used for someone who has prior knowledge of how to do this. I am not aware of how you would test someone who could not draw a clock or tell the time, but it would have to be something that was socio-culturally acceptable and that challenged the person in terms of spatial dysfunction and neglect (which is what the clock test tests for)
What about the next generation?! Do they use clocks?! Time for a new test! ;)
Ashley Bendiksen what I was wondering! It may have been a joke on your part but I’m 17 (have been to what are generally considered ‘good’ schools) and I’m unsure about the placement of the hands. I rely on my phone so it’s just not necessary.
@@Ashley-Bendiksen i assure you, most people of my generation still know what an analog clock is
I dont have this clock memorized. I used digital clock all my life.
Everyone knows what a clock looks like 🤦🏻♂️. Can you show someone who fails it. 🙄
