I just binged all of the descendants movies on Disney plus and I was searching for a video of Mal & Evie. I feel like they have stronger chemistry than she has with Ben...
The story I get from watching this (+some theories) Mal and Evie wanted to be together but only wanted to make it official in Auradon since love is frowned upon on the isle. Mal even promised to make them official once they’re settled in. After her mother told her her plan, Mal felt obligated to follow that said plan in order to gain her mom’s respect. When she arrived to Auradon, she saw Ben as the perfect opportunity like in the movie. But Mal was in so deep that she forgot about her promise to Evie. She kept on lying and telling her she’ll end things with Ben soon, but got so deep into the Royal life that she betrays Evie by keeping pretending/convincing herself that she loves Ben. The proposal ultimately broke Evie’s heart and she decides to try to move on from Mal. Mal realizes what she’s done and tries to apologize to Evie, which ends up in her getting mad at Mal for lying to her. Ending their non official relationship and their friendship ends up ruined as well Both are still in love with each other but they keep appart due to their fight. Both staying with boys they aren’t in love yet. Yes they end up apologizing by the end but it won’t be the same
