Just bought a vintage men's wool long coat and want to alter it to fit a woman, removing the sleeves completely and bringing in the rest of the coat to fit as a sleeveless winter piece.....so happy to have found you Gentleman Jim.

Anyone with some tailoring experience can easily follow your instructions. I’m about to experiment on an old jacket and watching your videos have given me a general idea of how to accomplish that. I wish there was a way to better capture the moments at the sewing machine... but we all know it gets dark in that small space.

I have a question: My dear father passed away a few years ago, and I kept a long coat he had made of alpaca wool, he loved it and so do I. The problem is that he was a size 54 and I am a size 50 (European size), so the coat is too wide, fortunately, the shoulders are perfect in size. I could send the coat to a tailor and have it done, but I want to do it, I have a special attachment to it, I can vividly see my father wearing it, only I want to touch it, I will practice first with another coat of a similar size and slim it, I won't use my dad's as my first attempt! Have you sir made any video where you show how to make such an alteration? I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and gentleness of soul. Many greetings from Germany.

I have a blazer (women's) that I bought some time back..it fit at the time but I have lost a lot of weight and now it is too big; especially in the shoulders & sides. I always wondered why the shoulders on many blouses and jackets never fit right right-you explained that well. If it fits well in the bust area, it is too big elsewhere. The blazer is well made and I can't even find where the lining was closed up....great job. should I start at the lining hem fold where I can hide it or in the center back? Good explanation, but it was hard to see what you were doing, but I don’t know how you can make it any better cause of the small surface you are working on and the machine gets in the way too! It sounded like someone was vacuuming too-made it hard to hear!

SOOO Good - thank you for sharing! One question : how do I exactly know how much I am allowed to take out from the side seam corresponding to how many cm/inch I lift the top of the sleeve ? I am worried that I take out too much from the side seam and that the sleeve doesn`t properly fit into the hole of the body anymore and that the sleeve won`t fall as nicely as before? hi gentleman I just wanted to know how you shorten a jacket sleeve like 3 or 4 inch when it's not possible from buttom of sleeve because button holes are open . the only way is to do it from shoulder ! could you make video of that please
A complex and incomplete explanation Until 1:30 the explanation was understandable I did not understand how the sleeves were consistent because after the narrowing of the sides, the diameter of sleeve openning been smaller than diameter of the sleeve.
totally wrong what you are doing and misinforming people on correct ways of altering or making suits... if you are a bone fide tailor, you should know that you should baste your sleeves in and any excess shrink it away before you stitch in the sleeve. I'm a fashion designer /tailor making Savile Row style suits the traditional hand pad stitched you are typically doing this in a factory home dressmakers way which will yield very unprofessional looks.
