Inkscape Bezier Pen Tool

- Inkscape’s Bezier pen tool is an amazingly versatile tool and with a little tuition is simple to use. If you have tried the Bezier pen and have found it hard to get your paths exactly how you want them - don’t give up. The Bezier pen is just a starting point, once you have created a path, the Nodes tool allows you to tweak it - you can adjust the curves, add nodes, remove nodes, change node types and loads more. This step by step Bezier pen & Nodes tool tutorial shows you all you need to know to create perfect paths with ease. I demonstrate how to use all of the Bezier pen tool’s Modes, how to use Shape and Scale, how to adjust the colour settings and I also walk you through how to adjust your path using the Nodes tool, giving you full control of your artwork. Combining the Bezier pen tool with the nodes tool will make your life a whole lot easier.
A little bit of knowledge can go a long way.

this has to be the best tutorial on the bezier tool. I have learnt the function of options that until now I literally had no clue what they did
Glad you liked it, as you say, most tutorials don't show you all the features or what a difference the nodes tool can make. Thanks for the great comments.
Your videos are absolutely amazing. You have taught me so much. Thank you very much!
Thank you, it's always good to get such positive comments.
Great tutorial

Thanks - I now feel confident to take on difficult mechanical drawing.
You're welcome. If you are creating technical drawings I'd recommend watching my video on Snapping (the additional options I cover in the video are now in the snapping menu - under Advanced Mode). There are also ones on rounding corners and tangents that you may find helpful.

TU very match) Can U please make special video about NodeTool?
And maybe U will add there something about how to configure keyboard shortcuts for to speed up work with these tools, including Beziers?
I had planned to make video covering working with nodes, so the nodes tool and other little features and function that can be really helpful. It will be coming 👍
I do like the idea of a video on keyboard shortcuts and how to set them. I'll try to tackle both in the near future.
@@CreateForFree TU very match.
Thank you, I needed this. I have been struggling with the Bezier Tool. I get how useful it is, but it really does need lots of practice. However, with the right info otherwise ended up very frustrated. I still need to practise but am seeing what need to do now. So this tutorial is much appreciated
The Bezier tool is real useful, but I nearly alway switch to the nodes tool to put things right. Stick with it 👍
Thank you for the excellent tutorial on the Bezier tool. Would love to see a tutorial for beginners on layers.
Thanks for your comment. There are 2 videos on my channel which you may find helpful
Layers Inkscape
ua-cam.com/video/wTG0hYtXids/v-deo.html
Inkscape Object Dialog
ua-cam.com/video/8ytOgfI7Vto/v-deo.html
Both of these were filmed before they combined the layers and objects dialog box, so both will be helpful. In Inkscape 1.2 they were combined but a few useful feature were removed, in 1.3 some things have been reintroduced. Hope you find them helpful.
Thank you so much!
Amazingly good tutorial, all questions answered!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, very helpful :O)
Good to hear you found it helpful.
Thanks i just know that i can use shift -L
You're welcome, hope you found it useful
Is Shortcut shift + L can change to custom shortcut? Maybe just push alt or click last node bro?
You can change/set custom keyboard shortcuts. Shift + L is a handy one, but like you say, it would be nice to use a single key. Just need to make sure you don't override another useful shortcut.
@@CreateForFree can you tell me, for the stages of customizing the shortcut, I'm confused because I can't find it in preferences. thank you bro
To add or change Shortcuts go to:
Edit - Preferences
Click on the Triangle in front of 'Interface' to display the options.
Click on 'Keyboard at the bottom to open up the Keyboard shortcuts and modifiers panel.
You can then click on the triangle in front of the name of the section you want.
When you have found the function that you want to add or alter the shortcut for, click on it to select it, then click in the Shortcut column - once it displays 'New accelerator...' you can press the key combination you want to use (it will warn you if you are going to over ride an existing shortcut)
Unfortunately you can't change all of the shortcuts and it looks like Ctrl + L is one that you can't change.
@@CreateForFree too bad, but thanks for your feedback. thanks bro, subs
My width changes ba c k to default why
You may need to adjust the settings. Select the Bezier tool, at the top right of your screen, just under the snapping buttons you will see a small section that has Fill and Stroke width for the tool - click on it and the pen preferences box will pop up. Under Style of new object, you want to select - Last used Style, you can then close the box. Now when you use the tool it should use the last syle and not the default.
unless you already have such a video)
I've got pages of notes but no video yet - soon, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but soon 😏
This part is not happening with me for some reason 4:43
Make sure you click and keep the button held down, then press shift as well, keep both held down and you should be able to now move the Bezier handle - when it is in the right position, then release the mouse button.
@@CreateForFree I solved it, it was something to do with the grids. Thanks anyway
@@Dexter101x glad to hear you got it sorted, may have been to do with snapping. Great when you want to use it but a pain when you don't.
