Reading of God’s sovereignty working through the sin in this situation gives me hope that God is working through the sinful ways of our country right now and that somehow, someway, His good will prevail and “joy will come in the morning.”
It’s profound how God works through the injustice .. the hypocrisy .. the heresy that our country .. and that I do .. each and every time I take matters into my own hands .. instead of laying it down and weeping over it in communion before the Lord .. like Samuel’s mother Hannah .. even the pastor ( or priest ) may thing you’re drunk in the middle of the day .. but God knows .. God answers prayers .. prayers of a barren woman , like Hannah .. & prayers for a wayward nation .. let’s encourage each other and remember that “ if my people who are called by MY NAME … “ .. we all know the rest .. hallelujah hallelujah , come Lord Jesus .. The Spirit and your bride beckon , come ! ( 2 Chronicles 7:14-16 & Revelations 22:17 & 20 ) …. ❤️💚💙💫 , -ww
"For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor, a lifetime." (Psalm 30:5a). The Lord's anger has an expiration date, but His favor, His pleasure, His mercies, His love never expire! My Godshot 🙂
It’s mind-blowing to think that God told David that his son would build a temple-before David’s sin, knowing that David would fail but that God would redeem and restore-so much so that God would use the sin of the census (where David didn’t follow the instructions in Numbers for taking a census that promised a plague if they weren’t followed) and actually establishes the site of forgiveness as His temple, forever. “You turn mourning to dancing, and graves into gardens: You’re the only one who can!”
We see this pattern of God throughout scripture: He knows we’ll sin, but already has a plan to bring us back. That started in the Garden with the prophecy of the Messiah who would crush the serpent’s head. Moses told the people in Deuteronomy that they’d go into exile, but God would bring them back. David violates Ex 30:12’s requirement for an individual tax that would avert plague if a census was taken, and then God uses that sin’s circumstances to establish His temple. And God knows that Solomon will disobey David’s instructions at 1 Chron 22:13, yet He allows Solomon to become the wisest, wealthiest king in history to that time. He is merciful, because He uses my sin to draw me closer to Him. He doesn’t want or endorse sin, but He turns “mourning to dancing” and graves into gardens!
How marvelous that our God makes our paths straight instead of leaving us on our own. He truly can make beauty out of ashes & restore what the locusts have eaten. What a Mighty, marvelous majestic God we serve ⚔️🛡✝️
Sin never gets to win against God and His people but that also doesn't give us the license to sin willfully. God still has all happenings under His control and they all will turn out for good and His glory. Thank you TLC and team ❤
That was such an awesome and amazing review of today’s word! Our Heavenly Father is such a great God that he can take our sin and use it for his glory!!!! Thank you Lord that you love me and have redeemed me, that you can use a sinner like me for your glory!! I love you and worship you my Lord!! Thank you Tara for all of the recaps you provide and for helping me and others to read through the Bible and to stay on track with my reading each day!! May the Lord richly bless you!!!
Today's reading was a game changer for me. I've reading for a while just to do a check on my check list, I didn't found any joy in reading, but today I read everything understanding and at the end realizing how God had work through all of my very awful mistakes and sin, and now I know that I've been redeem by his mercy.
I read this recap(Day 143: 2 Sam 24,1Chr 21-22) today 30th June 2024 on a day that I continue to pray for my nation Kenya. We continue to watch a spectacular turn of events where our younger generations continue to challenge the status quo in major mountains of Influence and breaking the oppressive systems/cycles that have kept the citizens bound. However my greatest worry in prayer has been whether this boldness/anger may end up giving the devil a foothold and binding us once again in loss of lives and great loses; was the sin from our politicians also ordained to carry out Gods will?(i am only human so dont mind my thoughts and worries). So I diarieze this day as I wait for Romans 8:28 where I shall witness "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose". May I live to see this day.
When David was given options to choose his consequence, he chose to "fall into the hands of the Lord", rather than men, because he knew God's "mercy is very great" (2 Sam 24:14; 1 Ch 21:13). God's "anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime"... (Psalm 30:5).
My God-shot is that when David was presented with his disaster options he worshipped and sacrificed to God. He owned his sin and the consequences that follow. Thankfully Jesus owned our sin but let us be humble and keep a sacrificial heart that remains malleable and humble before our Savior.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. I loved the lesson today. I’m thankful I found TBR.
It blows my mind how God is the only one who can and who does turn our sin and wickedness into goodness and glory for His name. Hallelujah! Salvation and glory, honor and power to The Lord our God
The sheer mercy, sovereignty and the love of God for His people just wrecks me. May we all continue to abide in His Word and settle into Him. Just enjoying HIM❤
This is my favorite commentary of yours to date. Understanding when God told David that he would have a son Solomon who would build a house for Him is everything! Really helped me to see God’s character better today. 🥹🤩🙏🏼💞 Thank you TLC for your excellent teachings.
Father, thank You for your anger lasts but for a moment, but Your goodness, your Your favour is ongoing; You redeem us all. Praise You Father for your everlasting love ❤️
Good morning and aloha BR family. Glory be to God and praising him for his word. Psalm 30: 4-5: Sing praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. For his anger last only a moment, but his favor las a lifetime. He is where the JOY is!!!💯🙏
My response each time anything unexpected happens whether good or bad has always been "everything happens for a reason" my tribe always gets frustrated with me when that's my response. This message confirms that response, where we as humans fail in this is thinking we ultimately control our lives. God allows us free will and our choices determine the outcome. This day of scripture was perfect for me!! Blessings all TLC family 🙏
Thanks TLC and TBR team beautiful insight to today's lesson 🙌🏾🤗💯❤️ Good morning bible Family ❤ Have a blessed day in His Presence ❤️ He is where the Joy is 💯❤️🙌🏾
🙏 ✝️ 🧁🎈🎁 🎂 Hello Tara! From Deep in the heart ❤ of Texas near Waco, I want to wish you a Happy Birthday! I thank God for you! You have been such a blessing to so many of us, & for the 1st time in my 53 years, I’ve not missed a day of being in the Bible since I started The Bible Recap on January 1st, and was my only New Years Resolution. I hope & pray you have a super, amazing, wonderful, awesome, memorable, beautiful, just like you day!! 🎂 🎁 🎈🧁✝️
Psalm 30- "Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me" (v2); "Sing the praises of the Lord...praise his holy name...his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." (v 4-5); "You turned my wailing into dancing; ...and clothed me with joy,...Lord my God, I will praise you forever." (v 11-12)
David sinned by taking a census. A census itself is not wrong. We see God ordered them before. However, God sees the intentions of the heart. David’s heart was leaning away from God. He was looking to the numbers of his army. His trust was in something less than God. Consequences were given and many people died. Whatever trust David had in numbers was greatly reduced. David’s sin was greater because the responsibility of his actions affected the entire nation. We see many mistakes and out right sin that David did. Yet it is almost shocking to see that God planned in advance for David to gather all the supplies and make preparations for his son Solomon to build the temple. God had said this would be done. God declared this would be done even beforeDavid sinned with Bathsheba, committed adultery, and murdered her husband. God knew exactly what horrible things David would do before it happened and He still set David apart with His mercy and love. God has mercy and grace for us beyond what we can understand.
Thanks for your interpretation/explanation, sometimes I'm left wondering why the differences in the different books, but then I just turn it over to the Lord, God bless and have a great day
In seeing that Solomon’s name is a derivative of the word Peace in Hebrew, it is amazing to see how this son brought so much comfort to David and Bathsheba. David couldn’t build the temple because he was a man of war. He was told that he would have a son of peace. After Bathsheba was raped, lost her husband and baby - she became pregnant again (now as David’s wife) and names this baby Peace / Solomon. This peaceful child gets to build the temple and lives in a time of peace. He gets to carry on the line of David down to the Savior. 🙏🏽🕊️💙 I don’t think God “plans” evil events - but he does fulfill His plans in spite of them. I believe that maybe it was God’s plan to eventually marry Bathsheba, but his introduction to her would have been when he would have visited her after Uriah, David’s mighty warrior dies in battle - maybe even by David’s side, if he was where he should have been. David just met Bathsheba before God planned for them to meet.
Tara-Leigh, your math accuracy is close enough for me. You have been faithful in your service to God, and a blessing to thousands of us. I wish you a most blessed birthday! Thank you for your work and sacrifice to the LORD!
I'm with you Tera ,this was my favorite so far really loving the old testament so much to learn that applies to today morally and throughout ,the worship of our Lord and Savior is so amazing how it all ties together his grace and mercy and love for his people (US),thank you for the awesome conclusion in today reading!! 😊
Thoughts on today's reading: There were some differences about the census. In 2 Samuel 24, it says there were 800,000 mighty men in Israel, with another 500,000 in Judah. But in 1 Chronicles 21, it gives 1,100,000 for Israel and 470,000 for Judah. But, it does say for the1 Chronicles 21 account that Joab intentionally did not include the tribes of Levi and Benjamin in the numbers reported because he was angry with David. Another interesting difference between the accounts is who is charged with inciting David to have the census done. In 2 Samuel 24: 1, it says the Lord incited David. But, in 1 Chronicles 21: 1, it says Satan. I believe that God allowed Satan to incite David. I think this is no different than when God allowed Satan to inflict Job. Job kept his faith in that situation. David, on the other hand, insisted on a census, but he never consulted God, so there were grave consequences for his sin. What I appreciate is that once David recognized his sin, he repented. He knew that he deserved punishment. He understood that God's rebuke was for his own good. God was so gracious in giving David a choice of punishment. I love Psalm 30. Praise God that His anger is only for a moment, but His favor lasts forever (Ps. 30: 5).
I've tried to find the answer, but where does God tell David that he will have a son who will build the temple? 1 Chronicles 17:11-14 only says that one of David's sons will rule after him and will build the LORD a temple, but doesn't specify the son's name will be Solomon. After Solomon is born & is growing up, God tells David that this is the son, but where was it written before that that God told David about Solomon to be born?
There's another discrepancy that you didn't talk about - in 2 Samuel 24:24 it says David paid 50 shekels of silver for the threshing floor and oxen, but in 1 Chronicles 21:25 it says he paid 600 shekels of gold. Why might there be such a big discrepancy between these? I realize it's not a super important detail, but I'm still wondering why they're so different.
Hey friends! Something happened with my youversion plan. All the comments disappeared and it shows as if i haven't done any day in the plan, like I'm in 0.... Does anybody has had the same problem?
Great summary as usual. I do have a quick question though - is it true that David chose the 3 days of plague? My understanding is that he left it up to the Lord to choose his punishment. Not trying to nitpick unnecessarily, just trying to be true to the text. Thanks for all you do.
I’m still unclear about David getting the prophetic BEFORE Solomon was born. CSN anyone give me scripture and verse. I thought Solomon was prophesied to build temple when he was a baby. Thank you
See 2 Samuel 7:11b-16....God tells David one of his offspring will succeed him and that he will build a house for Him. (This after earlier in Chapter 7 where he wanted to build a house for the Lord.)
Why was a three day slaughter killing 70'000 nessecary to establish the location of the temple? I'm sure most Israelites weren't too happy about that. You could also just send a prophet that says "build it there". There, done. I don't get it, this feels like God committing senseless violence, and it's not the first time
God-Shot .. TLC .. the beauty of Chronology .. this story today of the order of events that included David being told a sequence .. told partly that he’d have a son named Solomon .. and that that son would build God’s temple .. that’s cool and a little confusing since another prophet later on told David ( or perhaps now , I’m beginning to think that that prophet was reminding David that it was decided that he David , wouldn’t be building that temple .. crazy , right ? My God Shot was also infurred in TLC’s teaching .. and that was that God is sovereign over the good and the bad .. the evil and the good .. just like he did as he took and used for his plan to give us his gift of love .. by allowing the cruel instrument of torture .. of Rome’s instrument of capital punishment .. that was placed upon his son .. he used man’s injustice to bring about the salvation of the world .. to all that believe .. and that is a great reminder to rely on when things don’t go my way .. whether its decisions that draw my precious one’s away from Christ .. and I feel helpless to but draw deeper in my relationship with the Triune God in prayer .. to trust God to management .. & to be glorified through it .. thank you thank you thank you .. amen …
It confuses me as to why she mentioned the discrepancy of Satan telling David to call a census and the LORD telling him to do it. She did not explain why this exists. Why would it say the LORD did it when Satan did it?
@@pcinfoman Late to the game on this, but better late than never I suppose. You have a few options to choose from: 1. God enticed David to conduct a census and 1 Chronicles 21 is wrong. 2. Satan enticed David to conduct a census and 2 Samuel 24 is wrong. 3. 2 Samuel and 1 Chronicles are written by different authors with different purposes and intentions. 4. God is actually satan. Pick one of the above. The Jewish interpretation is these retellings were simply composed by different authors with different purposes (from the Jewish Study Bible). If you believe the bible is inerrant, then I can't help you as you will have to reconcile these discrepancies yourself.
"Using those motives to bring about good for his people.... he's so generous and forgiving..." What about the 70000 ppl that died, though? Aren't those God's ppl too? I just don't get it. There are these days in the bible where I just think... ok, I get that there is a plan at work but why do so many ppl have to die? And not only do those ppl die but what about the impact on the ppl who are still living, did they loose a child, a brother a sister, a parent? Did their whole family get wiped out? What about them? How can you just say, oh well it's for the greater good and discount the lives of thousands? Is the answer going to be, oh well they deserve death because of original sin anyway so it's only gods grace that allows us to live? This just seems like such a savage justification for mass murder. I'm not feeling it today, I see all the beautiful things that God has created and I see the way he works magic and joy, but why so much human sacrifice it makes me sick to my stomach. Am I just one of those thousands that would be wiped away without so much as a blink just to fullfill someone else's story..?
The "Angel of the LORD" is a Christophany. Think CHRISTophany, an image of Christ Jesus. 😊 Anytime we see LORD in all caps, I think it's supposed to refer to the God head three in one: Father, Son and Spirit. Hence why the angel of the LORD is believed to be the Son appearing on Earth before His human birth. Satan is separate.
Then David sent for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a Temple for the Lord, the God of Israel. “My son, I wanted to build a Temple to honor the name of the Lord my God,” David told him. “But the Lord said to me, ‘You have killed many men in the battles you have fought. And since you have shed so much blood in my sight, you will not be the one to build a Temple to honor my name. But you will have a son who will be a man of peace. I will give him peace with his enemies in all the surrounding lands. His name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign. He is the one who will build a Temple to honor my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will secure the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’ Now seek the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. Build the sanctuary of the Lord God so that you can bring the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant and the holy vessels of God into the Temple built to honor the Lord’s name.” 1 Chronicles 22:6-10, 19 NLT bible.com/bible/116/1ch.22.6-19.NLT

God is so good. I was really hit with the fact that God is a God who wants us to lean on him. He is our good father.

After Solomon is born & is growing up, God tells David that this is the son, but where was it written before that that God told David about Solomon to be born?

Is there any information on the difference in price that tells how much David paid for the threshing floor??
Does anybody have an answer to this?
@@pcinfoman Late to the game on this, but better late than never I suppose. You have a few options to choose from:
"Using those motives to bring about good for his people.... he's so generous and forgiving..."
What about the 70000 ppl that died, though?
Was Satan's appearance in Chronicles a Christophany? Tara-Leigh said it was the Son of God.
The "Angel of the LORD" is a Christophany. Think CHRISTophany, an image of Christ Jesus. 😊
Anytime we see LORD in all caps, I think it's supposed to refer to the God head three in one: Father, Son and Spirit. Hence why the angel of the LORD is believed to be the Son appearing on Earth before His human birth. Satan is separate.
@@genniferburns6643 yay! I absolutely LOVE a Christophany!!! I'm surprised TLC didn't identify it as such. Thought I lost my brain!
Need to work on your math accuracy. Several times now there have been misstatements. 40 percent of 365 is 146 days not 143
Then David sent for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a Temple for the Lord, the God of Israel. Build the sanctuary of the Lord God so that you can bring the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant and the holy vessels of God into the Temple built to honor the Lord’s name.”
