    Funny too run into this video because my son just surprised me with a high end gaming PC to play flight simulator. He also knows my love for aviation and saw that I was struggling with the PC I had. Sons, you gotta love them lol.

Soon after posting this video I bought him a Meta Quest 2 (a virtual reality headset) for him to compliment the PC and immerse him into the virtual cockpit of the aircraft, you can see the video for it here: ua-cam.com/video/xy3zOlU2l3E/v-deo.html . This is how unboxing/build videos should be done. No extraneaous dialog. Clean edits. Attention to audio (so often ignored these days.) Show the parts, show them going into place. Very well done.
    Looks like a really nice build. You chose your compnents well. The one thing I would add is some sort of GPU support. I use a post type. It has a magnetic base, rod, and little shelf to keep my RTX 3090 from sagging, which can damage the PCI-e slot, or even the graphics card over time.

    • @james_newall
      @james_newall  Рік тому +2

      Thank you eracer1111 that is a very kind message and greatly appreciated! Funny enough the Zotac 4070ti comes with a GPU support, which at first I didn't recognize. For aesthetic reasons I decided not to use it in the video, but added it afterwards. As you rightly suggest, it is a very sensible thing to use when you consider how heavy the GPU is. Thank you again! 🙂

      Hi v.f7658, thank you so much for the comment and kind words, it's appreciated 🙂! At the time we spent approximately £2,000 which probably translates to just under £1,500 today (?). I have listed all the components in the description, including monitor and the VR Headsets, so they should appear, although I probably need to update the links as some may be out of stock or sold no more. If you are interested, I have also added a VR Headset to build, initially the Meta Quest 2 and posted a video review for it here: ua-cam.com/video/xy3zOlU2l3E/v-deo.html and more recently I have the Meta Quest 3, which again, I have posted a review for here: ua-cam.com/video/iQOvJDVSwH4/v-deo.html

      @james_newall  Рік тому

      Hello Al, thank you for the kind comment it's very much appreciated! If you are interested in building a PC then why not consider giving it ago? Just decide what you want or need it for, keep within budget and pick components that are compatible with each other. Take your time with build and read the motherboard manual carefully. There is an thrill in building your own PC knowing you have chosen all the parts, and a learned knowledge of how to fix things if it goes wrong. 🙂

      @@james_newall Hi James thanks a million for replying.. I would love to upgrade my Ryzen 5 PC to be good enough to do VR with a Peco 4 (Never tried VR) as I only do flight sim. But although I am reasonably technical and still learning windows/software to keep the sim going, I bet if I tried the bios or something would not boot up.. Its a shame there was not a class to build along with an expert locally.. My son could do it but he is 500 miles away in Worcester. Its not knowing what needs to be bought to get say a 4060 ? working.. Anyway loved your video will keep a look out for more

    • @james_newall
      @james_newall  Рік тому

      @@alwatt9367 Hello Al, I understand. It is daunting, but there are a number of websites and videos which can help. If its a new build you're looking at then you shouldn't need to make many if any changes to the BIOS (what changes are needed are usually to tell the BIOS to increase the RAM or memory speed if the memory is compatible.. but its not necessary to do this and can be done once everything is installed and working. Or, to boot from a specific hard drive/SSD). As the old saying goes, read it once, read it again and then read it again... and things start to make more sense.

    Hello James, I’m about the same age as your dad and need a new system also. Is your dad‘s computer kicking out good FPS and do you think it will stand the test of time going out over the next five years? It looks and shows such high quality. I might try to mimic your set up if you think that it would do justice to MSFS. Thank you for your video, it may end up saving me a ton of research!

    • @james_newall
      @james_newall  Рік тому +2

      Hello David, thank you for your kind comment! I will have to get the FPS details next time I visit him, suffice to say the graphics are set to ultra and it plays wonderfully on the PC with smooth motion and stunning detail. As you can probably tell from the age of my Dad's previous PC, longevity is important to him and this PC should comfortably last 5 years and longer. Overall, I am genuinely delighted with the build as ticks all the boxes I wanted it too and most importantly my Dad is enjoying it.

      Hi David, I headed over to see my Dad yesterday. The FPS when flying over New York's famous sky line in a Hawk was between 85 and 120 (skimming over the top of the sky scrapers etc) the graphics were stunning! Over much less intense geography, for example Fort William in Scotland it is more like 200+.

    • @james_newall
      @james_newall  Рік тому +1

      Hi g_zae, thanks for the comment. There are a number of things this could be try the following:
      1. Make sure the HDMI cable is plugged into the HDMI port on the GPU (i.e. the graphics card), NOT the motherboard.
      2. On the monitor make sure the 'source' is set to the correct HDMI port
      3. If you have the same GPU and monitor as I have then use the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor instead of the HDMI cable (making sure you follow steps 1 and 2 above). A DisplayPort cable generally supports a higher screen refresh rate than HDMI meaning you can increase the screen resolution to 165hz on this monitor (which is fantastic!!). However, the advantage of HDMI is will give you audio... but in my mind, but if you're spending this much on a PC then I would suggest buying/using dedicated speakers and/or headphones instead.
      4. Check the monitor works by plugging it into another PC that you know works.
      5. With the power disconnected, reseat the RAM sticks into the motherboard (making sure you put them into the correct slots, refer to your motherboard manual as it tells you which ones to use). Likewise, try using just one RAM stick or swapping them round.
      6. Make sure the connections to your GPU are all in correctly.
      7. If possible try the GPU in another PC. If not then speak with the seller and ask them for a replacement GPU.
      I hope this helps.

That application seemed pretty similar to what I was thinking so that machine seemed like the most appropriate for us.
