Holden V8 bench test.

In this episode of StreetSpecTV we bench test a Holden 253 c.i V8 engine after a freshen up. We installed new main and big end bearings, honed the cylinders, fitted new piston rings, installed a set of yella terra cylinder heads, a new timing chain, and replaced all gaskets and seals. We start the engine and check all the vitals, set the ignition timing, idle speed and mixture, and check for any abnormal noises or oil leaks.

Anything will rev quick with only a flex plate, but I do agree that the 253 is indeed a beautiful underated engine

A blok at work offered me two 253 motor for fifty dollars meny years ago didn't have the money to spare still upsets me

Can I ask where you got the paint for the yella terra heads? I’m building a 253 w/ YT heads and keen to keep the original look 😊, you’ve done a great job of the motor looks and sounds spot on! 👌

Looks and sounds terrific, what carby & intake manifold is that and the camshaft was she upgraded ? What horsepower would you be expecting to squeeze out of her ? Interesting clip, thanks for posting, cheers, Andy in Adelaide.

@gashy1000 Hi Andy, thanks for the support. It is running a Edelbrock Performer dual plane manifold with a 600 holley carby running 55 main jets, and match ported to yella Terra cylinder heads. A stage 2 cam, a double row timing chain, and standard electronic ignition. Make sure you check out my other videos.
