Thank you so much for this video showing how to keep up with the maintenance on the hanging pots and containers! I have some maintenance as well as fixing of issues some of my pots and containers are having and this gives me a great guide on what to do. Love your videos - and love seeing the baskets and containers that you planted in precious videos as they grow!
I LOVE your Chanel. I feel a little guilty, I live in So Cal zone 10B and I don’t have to work so hard in the garden. I do not suffer with frost and overwintering does not exist for me. I wanted you to know that even though we are not in the same growing zone, I learn a lot about containers from you. Your friend in the dirt, Victoria
Thanks so much Corey, very informative. I think behind the scenes videos are so important. I’ve always trimmed those little ovals off my lantana, I’m happy to find out it’s not necessary for encouraging more blooms….great!🇨🇦🌸🇨🇦
Hi Corey,I really appreciate seeing you do the maintenance and tips.My waves got really full some got leggy so I trimmed them around the pot edge like you showed and now I know i can fertilize them more.Evwrythung you planted up looks just beautiful! Also I sterilize my scissors and clippers for roses but I will be doing it for all plants! Thank you for a thorough explanation of each thing as always!
Your Gerbera daisies from QVC look the same as mine, one is droopy but they all have small new growth coming! Here’s hoping they make it up here in Michigan
The passion flower bloom is beautiful but it does not last long,, fertilize constantly so you keep new blooms... it being in a green house may have it last a bit longer no wind or pollinators... beautiful pots.. I myself plant random pots to see how they turn out..most turb out beautiful
Hi you have beautiful pots, i'm learning so much from you! question: should i add some potting soil to my 12" containers, i find my finger goes farther down when checking for water, thank-you, and should i sprinkle potting soil on top as not to disturb the plants
I’ve never added soil after they were planted… I’ve always just planted them into a bigger pot. If the soil line is low, I’d gently flip the plants out and add a bit it soil to the bottom of the pot.
Hello again, enjoy watching the channel of course. :] Question for you, when you say you are fertilizing every other day with the rebounding plants which fertilizer are you using and what's the NPK? I would be afraid to over fertilize and burn them with a normal petunia NPK ratio. Thankyou! 😊
Thank you for the update!!! What kind of fertilizer do you use and what kind of plant was that at the very end of your video that was right in front of you please? Thanks!!!!
Hi Corey... Your pots are beautiful... Question. . Do you know anything about the Midnight Marvel Deep Purple Elephant Ears ?.. The plants are huge... 😊
Not sure, but if it’s the same one I’ve seen floating around Facebook, it’s not real - they took a dark elephant ear and enhanced the color. There’s a crazy number of fakes out there, so only buy seeds and bulbs and plants from reputable sources.
Thank you so much for this video! Your videos have helped me to be more creative this year. I found some lysmachia and planted with dragon wing begonia. And I also added some of the newer colorful petunias. I don’t have much luck usually with calibrachoa but I tried it again this year. I have red added any fertilizer yet though. I usually use an all purpose similar to the Miracle G stuff. When you mention fertilizer is it all purpose or specific?
Excellent advice as always, so helpful. I have only been fertilizing my containers once a week, with a bloom booster. Is that enough or do I need to increase that? I really want the performance you get, but afraid to over do it and it gets very expensive.
I’m fertilizing everything once a week… except the Wave baskets I’m trying to revive, they get every other watering right now - I’ll pull back to once a week soon.
Hi Corey 😊 I know my petunias love fertilizer. When they’re in with other plants, do I have to be careful over fertilizing the others or should I just carry on? Also, thanks for showing me how to get rid of that little black trellis 😅
If you’re using a water soluble fertilizer like MiracleGro once a week, just water as usual. No need to complicate it unless you notice an issue (I haven’t had Sky problems doing it that way).
Your plants are doing very well. I have had two of my three Hoopla Orchid petunias die, and one is struggling planted with a dahlia that has lots of green and has stopped blooming. I have been fertilizing with Jack's Bloom and PW alternating. This is my first year growing dahilas in several pots, and I am assuming that they don't like blooming in the southern heat. I have also had several verbenas die I guess because they don't like much water and I planted them with salvias and Sunpatiens. Maybe all this is trying to do mixed containers. Question: Why haven't you taken them outside and what do you hang these heavy hanging baskets on when you don't have a greenhouse. The shepherds hooks I have lean a lot. If you hang them from a tree, they don't get the sun. Completely different question. I got three Phenomenal lavender 4 inch pots, and I was trying to decide if I plant together in an 18 inch pot or if they should be separate. It's supposed to be one of the few lavender that likes heat and humidity. Have you grown lavender? Can you put it in a mixed container with lantana or scaveloa for instance? Thanks for your videos.
If I could, I’d keep all my containers outside - but if they’re in the greenhouse, I can keep a better eye on them. We don’t have space to keep them in the public areas… and sometimes containers in the public get a bit of abuse. I’ve moved a few to my house already. Hooks and hangers on porches, posts and the sides of houses are great on in sunny spots. Lavender is tricky in Northern Michigan, not only does it sometimes struggle with our winters, it’s also easy to overwater, and that’s not good for lavender, so I don’t recommend them for pots to our customers unless they know they can be very careful about moisture.
@UpNorthGardenMI I almost always have problems with calibrachoa suddenly dying in mixed containers. I really try not to water them when I am watering the salvias and petunias. Several varieties of salvias (Wendy's Wish, Black and Bloom, Mirage, Texas Pink (survives Georgia winters), Grandstand Strawberry, Hummingbird Falls and Wild Thing) need a lot of water, but the hummingbirds prefer them and rarely go to other "hummingbird plants." What was the blue salvia you showed? Blue suede shoes? I have the Rockin Purple and Unplugged pink this year, and so far, they are not needing much water as compared to the other ones. Great advice about watching out for pests, and I have already had to start spraying for white flies and something that makes the verbenas leaves get yellow/silvery dots. I am using Bio Advanced 3-1 and Bonide systemic granules for the first time this year. Aphids are attacking the guards too. I also wanted to thank you for showing clipping the angelonia because I wasn't sure when to dead head. Some of my angelonias are crowded out by petunias and some are green but not a lot of flowers. I also think after watching your video that I am going to pull out the surviving Hoopla and put it in a separate pot. Thanks for your ideas.
Very nice, and thanks so much.I have one problem in my garden bed, my few plants effected by mosaic virus and I don't want to remove them, please let me know if you have any treatment. Thank
I use lots of superbena varieties but found cherry burst went weeks without blooms and won’t use it again. I’m looking forward to seeing how yours produces flowers.
I’m using a water soluble fertilizer once a week. This season I’m trying Beat Your Neighbor fertilizer, but I’ve had good luck with Jack’s and MiracleGro.
This season I’m trying Beat Your Neighbor fertilizer this summer (MiracleGro in the past). I use it weekly for most plants, but every other watering for those that I want to give a boost.
I watch your videos all of the time, and I'm always WOWED by your containers. I'm ashamed to ASK (I should know) but...what potting mix do you use, and what fertilizer are you using for the sometimes as frequent as every other day watering? I have full on CONTAINER ENVY❤❤❤
I'm sorry I duplicated previous questions 😔 I should have read the comments first. THANK YOU for answering!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE....and APPRECIATE your videos!!!
We use Hi-Yield Iron+ (1/4 tsp per 4” pot - or as directed in the instructions) sprinkled along the edge of the pot. We’ve used other products as well - we follow instructions on the package. Before you do anything, make sure you know your pH is the issue - you don’t want unnecessarily add iron.
Basic question as I am learning 😊😊 what is the difference in a Petunia and a calibrachoa? I've saved a lot of baskets from the "dead flower department" at my local big box store 😂
Although calibrachoa look like little petunias, they are different. Pretty much all calibrachoa are self-cleaning, some petunias are not (the varieties I grow are self-cleaning). Calibrachoa don’t like extra wet soil, so keep them lightly moist to a little bit dry between waterings. Calibrachoa are sensitive to soil pH, so they often don’t do well when planted in the ground, so they are best in containers. Both like regular fertilizing.
@@UpNorthGardenMI thank you! I am pretty sure I have both! Is there an easy way to distinguish one from the other other than bloom size? I love your channel! So helpful!
I really love that Plum Cockatoo petunia and the salvia together!
I like it even more than I thought I would. I also have it with pink angelonia, and it compliments the lavender/pink tones of the petunia.
Oh my gosh me too! I covered my eyes when he snapped it off 😅
I adore the plum cockatoo and salvia together!!! 😍💐💚🙃
Those two look great together.

I’m trying Beat Your Neighbor this year. 20-21-19, so they’re higher than MiracleGro - and I haven’t had a problem with extra doses on the petunias.
Wht do you put on your geraniums so tht "worm" doesnt get IN them? I am concerned abt the pollinators whn I need to apply smthg. SoCal zone 10. Ty.
Corey they all look amazing! How long is it ok to fertilize every other day! Thanks for all the info Corey!
I do it for a week. They usually perk up and that’s when I start pulling back.
Thank you for the update!!!
What kind of fertilizer do you use and what kind of plant was that at the very end of your video that was right in front of you please?
Thanks!!!!
This season I’m trying Beat Your Neighbor. In the past, I’ve used MiracleGro and Jack’s. All three get the job done.
When you fertilize every other day, do you use mixture as instructioned or diluted?
I mix as directed - but diluting it could yield similar results - I haven’t tested it.
Thank you !!!!

Yep. Either the regular or the bloom-booster will get the job done. 👍
I absolutely love the proven winner water soluble fertilizer! So much better than miracle grow in my opinion

Oh no! This year they came out with an improved version - hopefully that’s one of the improvements.
Aw,, that’s too bad. I love verbenas
Where do you purchase your large hanging baskets that was in this video?
We carry them at my parents nursery. They’re called Seneca pots.
Super helpful!!

Can you explain what you're doing in regards to adding iron to counteract the ph level?
We use Hi-Yield Iron+ (1/4 tsp per 4” pot - or as directed in the instructions) sprinkled along the edge of the pot.
We’ve used other products as well - we follow instructions on the package.
Before you do anything, make sure you know your pH is the issue - you don’t want unnecessarily add iron.
How do you trim the hanging baskets back?

Shouldn’t the roots be loosened on some of the plants before putting into soil?
It’s not necessary if you’ve got good soil and the plants aren’t root-bound.
I love your soil. Please share your recipe. Thanks.
We buy it in bulk from Michigan Grower Products, so I don’t have a secret recipe 😌
Do you amend it at all when planting?
We usually add some time-release Osmocote, but nothing beyond that.
Is it okay to fertilize my hanging baskets in the summer time
It’s vital that you fertilize them to keep them looking good.
@@UpNorthGardenMI thank you
Does Lantana like fertilizer?
We fertilize it weekly with our other annuals.
