I know Im asking randomly but does anyone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
The MiG-17 strength is in a turning fight. He would win almost every time. The trick was to not get suckered into a turning fight with him and try to sucker him into a vertical engagement. The knowledge of the opponents strengths and weaknesses is critical to persevering in dogfighting, thus good classroom as well as flight training is key to success and staying alive in air to air combat. The Mikoyan-Gurevich design team fixed everything that was wrong with the MiG-15 when they designed the MiG-17 series, so it was quite a daunting adversary in Vietnam with Russian trained NVAF pilots.
I find "delta" wings hideous. They make the cockpit area curve up if they are twin engine, and that looks awful, but this, this is beautiful. I love swept wings.
+AllThingsFlightSim True. These older jet aircraft have a real charm to them, like the F-86, MiG-15/17 and the Hawker Hunter. Beautifully simple looking aircraft, so smooth and shiny...
I know very little about planes or warbirds. I grew up in Beira, Mozambique. Saw many of these fightes during the civil war in the 80's. I cannot forget the intimidating Mig 15/17 sounds and maneuvers. As the war was not the conventional one, I believe the fighters didn't play a major role in war zones. But I miss these spectacular fightes a lot.

The announcer should read up a bit more, or just not talk at all. He forgot to mention the F-105 and F-8 which were the leading MIG-17 killers after the F-4. No A-7s were lost to the MIG17 and only 1 A-4.
@@uio890138 Was that in Vietnam, the war the US lost, despite the US army being so good at civilian massacres and the rape and murder of women and children? Claiming to be defending a countries people while murdering them was duplicitous behaviour displayed many times since by the US.
That sounds like your liberal Hollywood's version of that war. You nut job libs tend to believe everything Hollywood jams down your throat without question. That's why you are sheep. Let me ask you this: were you there?
Is it obligatory that every air show announcer sound like Rod Roddy from the Price is Right and have virtually no knowledge at all of the aircraft he's hyping? The MiG-17 isn't going supersonic because it's not designed to safely do so; that has nothing to do with the airshow regulations about breaking mach 1. You could surely get it past supersonic in a dive from angels 25; would that be a good idea in a 60 year old Soviet warbird?
I know I was at the Vancouver air show and a f16 flew by me at Mach 1.5 did anyone care no. I hate when the announcers have no knowledge at all it’s just like WHY!. I hate it so much.
It's remarkable how much a thorn in its enemies' sides the MiG-17 managed to be considering that most of its enemies, historically, were better funded nations flying aircraft technological generations ahead at times when the MiG-17 was already decades old.
One very bad ass fighter. This aircraft depending on the mission is very capable. Most announcers ruin airshows. They should only be yacking in case of an emergency. Most people know what they're looking at at airshows.
Stats and performance advice is one thing, but too damn many of those so-called "color" announcers spill out nothing but rank bovine spatter, distracting from the star of the show...the airplane. The only two words I have to describe most of them is "SHUT UP!"
Quite a respectful piece of aircraft engineering ! They were underpowered but quite nimble , at .63 thrust to weight ratio it could run rings around the faster and more powerful F-4 Phantom which had a .86 thrust to weight ratio and Mach 2+ ! evening out the overall kill ratio during the Vietnam conflict !

I've had the privilege to see some Yak trainers in my day. But there was one airshow where a MiG-17 showed up and frankly, the F-16 and F-18 demonstrators came out after it...and they were no where near as interesting to watch. Nor were they anywhere near as appealing to the eyes.
Today, Russian and American historians such as Cookie Sewall and Diego Zampinni admit that on 10/01/1955, not 10/08, there was the first kill of a jet by another jet. An F-80 Shooting Star patrol engaged three MiG-15s and veteran First Lieutenant Semyon Fyodorovich Khominich spotted 10 F-80F aircraft. Khomonich turned left, leaving the sun behind in combat formation. As a result of their attack, an F-80 was shot down. He opened fire at 800 meters, and stopped firing at less than 200 meters. Coming out of his attack, the lieutenant struggled to gain altitude. Major Bordun with the rest of the team attacked four F-80s that were trying to attack Khominich. The Americans went to the others without success, and finally abandoned the fight..." "...The Russian-built fighter was flown by five Air Force pilots. The F-86A-5 Saber underperformed when compared to the MIG-15. However, the superior training and tactics of the US pilots established a "kill ratio" better than 8:1 over MIG. MIG-17 and J35 Draken are two of my favourite planes. Russian planes are incredibly beautiful

In full afterburner, the engine burns about 1.5-2 gallons per second. He took off with a full load of fuel and landed with a near empty tank.
