I remember when Mig's-17 (in local versions Lim-6) of Polish Air Force practiced many times low level missions around my city area. They flown even lower altitude than height of the trees. One day two of them practiced a dogfight exactly over my house. Another day one flown so low over house that all inside run from IT, cause of noise. A long time ago.
@@ChiekoGamers experimental? it was certaily a normal occurrence in vietnam, US already had second gen sidewinder(AIM-9E/D/G), manpad were also available for both side. the north vietnamese airforce use tactic such hit and run and baiting F-4 to lower lever to be shot by S-75 SAM.

But aside from that, Americans had the superior radar systems and missiles. But missiles did not help air combat during a time where a bad combination of unreliable technology and bad doctrine made things much worse. Also important to note is that S-75s were a serious threat to high altitude aircraft, not at low levels. The north Vietnamese had low levels covered with AAA gunnery which was also surprisingly effective.
I used to think the MiG-17 was an ugly plane. But after having learned about its design and the men who flew it in combat, it’s one of my absolute favourites. Truly a magnificent fighter that held its own against vastly more expensive aircraft.
And how about the F-86, not ugly? The design is almost identical. But I understand, I understand, it's different, right? Everything American is the best, right?

It is beautiful in its ugliness! 😎 Like original VW, but it was a paradigmatic machine. There are many ugly machines which are proven to work forever (like DC-3 and An-2 for instance).

And moreover, we do not need to say that mainly non-material factors, that is, the moral qualities of people, including pilots, account for up to 99% of success both in land, sea and air affairs, and in civil and military activities, respectively. Only about 1% is accounted for by the material part, that is, hardware and software. Unfortunately, few people understand this.
this plane saw more combat than any other plane ! middle east / vietnam / india- pakistan war and other african conflicts ...looks can be deceiving ....
And the Vietnamese copied the Soviets.... And who defeated the Germans to take their technology? The Soviets. (Not "the Russians", the USSR was many nations).
