Welcome back! 🇺🇸 It’s been 23 years since the attacks on 9/11. I was 20 years old and living in an apartment with my now husband here in Illinois. Far removed from any of the physical danger but mentally & emotionally we were all there that day. ❤️
Hi Tonia. I was at my brother's place (In Australia) with him and a service colleague, he was in the Australian military, watching something on television. To this day I cannot remember what we watched. When the broadcast suddenly switched to what was happening in New York. We sat watching stunned and terrified, trying to make sense of what we were seeing. We were glued to the TV screen for the entire night, (remember the time difference). Then sadness and anger took over. The next day, Australians wept, and became one with the American people. We may be a small country in population. But we will always stand by the American people through times of tradegy and disaster. Just as the United States has stood by us.
@@DavidCalvert-mh9sy I think everyone was glued to the tv that day. I wasn’t able to sit and watch all day tho cuz I had to still go to work. But Americans definitely felt the love from everyone all over. ❤️
Beautiful song! I heard about it the morning after, here in Australia, I was actually with my mother when I watched the footage- it seemed so utterly unfathomable at the time!
@@Ninchi_TrueCrime It truly did. Even now sometimes it seems unfathomable that we all went through that. Not just Americans but the whole world. 🇺🇸🇦🇺❤️
GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸 I remember turning on the tv when the 1st plane had already hit. So I wasn't sure what was going on. As I was watching the second plane hit. That's when I realized that this wasn't just a building on fire but something more horrible. A terrorist attack. I watched the news all day long. Even at work. Watching the towers fall. I was in shock. The worst part was seeing the desperate people jump from the buildings. 😢💔
@@joyannwesson Yeah I had just turned on the radio getting ready for work right after the first plane hit so it was definitely a shock. When the 2nd plane hit and everyone started saying it was a terrorist attack, being only 19 years old, almost 20, I don’t know if I fully grasped what that meant in the moment. You know? I just remember feeling scared that they would keep going and hit all of us. I agree, seeing people jumping or falling from the building was one of the worst most heart wrenching sights I’ve ever seen. 😢
It was 9:50pm in Queensland Australia, i was 13yrs old when my mother woke me up in tears and shock, i didn't understand what was happening until i saw the second plane hit live on TV. But our military forces got the bastards responsible for this horrific attack on innocent civilians.
@@matthewburgess1406 Oh wow I couldn’t imagine being woken up by my mom in tears and being only 13. If it happened when I was a child I probably would’ve been so afraid to even leave my house for a long time. ❤️🇺🇸🇦🇺
@@ToniaElkins it was quite a shock as child, it took me a while before I felt comfortable in high-rise buildings and planes. My school helped us children understand what and why these things happen, the day after students (myself included) wrote and sent heart felt letters to mayor Giuliani to show our American cousins you weren't alone in your grief and pain.
@@matthewburgess1406 Omg that’s beautiful that you guys wrote letters. I love that! And I don’t blame you about being afraid of high rise buildings for awhile after that.
Hello Tonia, happy birthday, I was asleep at the time it happened about 11:00pm, the next morning when I woke up, I was excited, it was my one month anniversary of getting my first ever job at McDonald's on the 12/8/2001.( For you that would be 8/12/2001), I was listening to the radio on my walkmen on the train on the way to work and felt sad and thought that the Australian prime minister might have been involved in the pentagon, but as we later found out he was at the whitehouse at the time I believe? Yeah, it was a mixed emotional day for me, firstly I was shocked that I hadn't been fired yet, then the international news. I was 16 at the time and had an interest in Australian politics, which I still do and instantly thought how can we support America through this? The news seemed to drag on for weeks after it happened then the true sadness of how many people it affected hit me soon afterwards and thought, this is important international news which I should never ever forget about. Later, I did shed a tear or 2 thinking how selfish I am to be excited about my own work and life, for me at the time with a lot going on, I thought that holding onto a job for a month was a big deal, which in hindsight was so insignificant compared to what the whole world went through at that time.
Australian Prime Minister John Howard - who was in Washington at the time of the attacks - invoked the ANZUS Treaty: Australia, New Zealand and United States Security Treaty an agreement committing Australia and the US to support one another if attacked First off nice song☺️ It was just another morning getting ready for work When I heard about it 20 years ago, wow! Hard to believe

Sorry I'm late but stuff ya know 🙄 I remember the day well, or should I say the evening as it was about 10:30 pm when I'd finished watching a movie (VHS, after all it was only 2001 :) ) so I changed the channel and couldn't comprehend what I was seeing. There before me was a burning tall building, I had no idea about WTC at the time, I didn't travel in financial circles so why would I know anything about them? Anyway they were talking about this plane that had just flown into the first tower, and I thought I was watching some weird movie, then the second plane came in and I then knew this was no joke and it was live. OMG I couldn't believe what I'd just witnessed, it just made no sense to me, it was horror overload, then we saw people leaping to their deaths, I still can't fathom exactly why this happened, all the stories, reports and conspiracies since can't explain why over 3,000 non military personnel were targeted in such an unprovoked hideous way. Years have gone by and I, for reasons which I'll keep to myself, believe Osama Bin Laden had nothing to do with it and the real enemy was Palestine or an even older foe who shall remain nameless at this time. There ya are, a brief peek into my mind about the event which, without question changed the world.
TE! I was on the highway on my way to a film shoot in the country when I heard it on the radio. When I arrived the whole crew stood around stunned... "Is this true?" My goodness you sure have a rough lead up to your birthday. I hope you celebrate with a sense of renewal and look forward to better days with a big dose of happiness.🫂
@@marklane58 Wow. I love hearing everyone’s stories. Every person has their very own detailed memory on what they were doing. It’s amazing. I’m definitely celebrating pretty good this year! Went out to dinner tonight, going for lunch tomorrow with my husband and daughter and then me and Savannah are getting pedicures. Then Friday we’re leaving for a weekend camping trip down south. I’ll be the only girl with a bunch of fishing men 😂
