  • Gaea Tutorial: A Collection of Rocks For All Sorts of Things
    I break down a few scenes I made in an attempt to get rocky cliff faces in Gaea. You will need a steep (but not a 90 degree steepness) for many of these techniques to work. In any case. I hope you enjoy the break downs. The .tor files will be uploaded to the discord. Link in the Link Tree link below.

    The first one was definitely my favorite! And using the Embed option for Combine simply blew my mind - the entire landscaping done with 4 nodes (5 if the snow counts). I guess less is more sometimes.
    And thank you for very good explanations as well!

    How did you manage to isolate the rocks? Taking the separation mask from the combine node combining the ridge and the rocks doesn't work. I'm stuck.

    Hi Dylan, I'm loving your tutorials - learning so much which is great! If you have the time, is there any chance you could create a Gaea to Vue tutorial?

    • @DylanPWN
      @DylanPWN  2 роки тому

      Most certainly! I am actually picking up Vue again and have been brushing the rust off where I can.
      The main issue is, however, I haven't been able to post a video in a long time. My work place is going through major growing pains and we are short staffed, so I haven't been able to make videos or even assist people all that much on other things, except in small windows.
      I'm hoping for a miracle in the meantime.
      Until I can get around to making a video, I can point you to a video that'll get you started. It's an older video of mine but the workflow is the same for Gaea, at least for importing. I want to do a full break down of texturing and rendering. Hopefully I will get to that soon.
      Here is the video to get you started:
      ua-cam.com/video/KNyJKuXXbjE/v-deo.html
      This example has me blending a map from world machine with another fractal. However, at least it'll get you to the importing your heightmap from Gaea workflow.

    Could you try some more game engine focused things?
    Color maps made in gaea don't really make sense for playable game terrains when you need to define where premade textures go using hard masks.
    Finding enough natural variations and features for masks and placing enough of them to make a region without human disturbance look good is so hard lol
    Like... isolating values in the texture node using a threshold percentage to achieve 3 or 4 masks for a splat and then color matching it to look like the satmap just looks ugly and wrong :(

    • @DylanPWN
      @DylanPWN  2 роки тому +7

      When I have more time to get into game engines, I surely will. Currently, I barely have enough time to make the videos I have been making. My main goal is to do a full blown break down of a landscape from start to finish in UE.

    I always wonder how do you cooperate a squared shape terrain like these to make larger world like GTA and blend it seamlessly.

    • @DylanPWN
      @DylanPWN  Рік тому

      Well, You don't HAVE to make it square. You can create a landmass that doesn't reach the edges. Or, you can make a large land mass that does reach the edges but the playable area is only in a small section of the landscape (Small being relative. You can have as large or small of a play area as you want, within the game engines capabilities).
      There are a lot of ways to do this, just depends on the workflow or the requirements of the project.
