I appreciate your teachings on this, I really didn’t know what covenant theology entails. Yes, dangerous to allow offspring to assume they’re saved just because they were baptized at a young age.

people can take your reputation and tell you that you are not Christian, they can take your body and even your mind but they can't take my soul for Jesus has the true believers in His Hands.

I enjoyed this message so very much. As an old fundamental baptist who has joined with a reformed presbyterian congregation I have many discussions along these lines. Not condemning just trying to understand.

Thank you, Pastor David. Man’s word is man’s word and God’s word is God’s word. Living by Spirit and Truth is what God’s word calls us to, not man’s opinion on theology. I attended a reformed college and was appalled when a professor compared the reformed theology to cats on a tin roof. In his illustration the Baptists were a cat hanging off the roof, the Presbyterians were a cat sliding down the roof, but close to the top. Of course, on top of the roof was the Christian Reformed and Reformed cat who stood proud on top of the roof because he was the wise, knowledgeable cat. It really turned me off to even wanting to look into the theory of Calvinism and quite honestly made me believe more into what the Bible actually says by asking the Lord to guide me through His word.
There are so many issues with so many different things in the views we have about what the Bible says and so much of it has a base of what a human said and not what God says!

David - I have changed my already high opinion of you. My opinion has now been raised to a whole different level over what it was only a few minutes ago! I use your commentaries almost daily, and am very happy to hear your comments on this very important subject! THANK YOU for your courage!

It's kinda hard for me to imagine someone in a whole seriousness saying to another person - "youre fine, you were baptized as a little kid, so no worries, whatever". Who in a based, spiritually sound and sane christian mind would be like "no, its done/youre saved, nothing else matters"?!?!

Thank you for this content Pastr Guzik. I have listened to quite a bit of your online content and often give thanks to God for all of the online content he has inspired, yours included, that has been such a great blessing to me and my spiritual growth. I am not a proponent of Covenant Theology, nor of pedo-baptism. I had a question though. I listened with interest to your reasons objecting to phrase "covenant of grace", and I get all that. But I couldn't help being reminded of a couple of verses in Hebrews, specifically Heb 8:6, and Heb 12:24. Doesn't the writer of Hebrews refer to Jesus and the mediator of a new and better covenant based on better promises (i.e. grace)? I am not disagreeing with you. My father went to his grave believing that he was saved by being "confirmed" as Catholic even though he never really practiced that religion much. Your perspective has caused me to think differently about the term.

I have 2 questions Pastor David:
    1. Why did the Reformed Church develop this doctrine if it is not biblical? Why not just stick with the Biblical Covenants?
    2. Have paedobaptists not existed since the late 2nd and early 3rd centuries? I ask because at that time there was no such thing as the Covenant of Grace, but they still baptized infants.

  • @grannyroberts
    @grannyroberts 3 години тому

wow, i never thought of people thinking infant baptism saves them alone.

Pastor, does the Reformed side distinguish between the New Covenant and the Covenant of Grace? Do they think God made a
New Convenant, to include the Gentiles, and again a Covenant of Grace?

  • @JITKanno0

As far as I understand, Reformed churches say/claim that Abrahamic covenant(when all males of God's covenant were to be circumcised) is now substituted by New covenant (water baptism), thus circumcision for all God's people then=baptism for all christians and their families now - hence the paedobaptism teaching. Well, roughly the idea.

I understand what you are saying literally but my understanding has always been that the New Testament is the New Covenant and that is no longer under the law but under grace through Jesus, therefore the idea of Covenant of grace is more of a deduction of what we live under now that we no longer live under the law.
“He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.”
    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
“That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9‬:‭15‬ ‭NLT‬‬
““The day is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah. This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt. They broke that covenant, though I loved them as a husband loves his wife,” says the Lord. “But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel after those days,” says the Lord. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. And they will not need to teach their neighbors, nor will they need to teach their relatives, saying, ‘You should know the Lord.’ For everyone, from the least to the greatest, will know me already,” says the Lord. “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.””
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭31‬:‭31‬-‭34‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”
    1 John 4

“O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”
    Galatians 3
We work hard to apply biblical principles, we must work even harder to maintain our vision of what lies at the heart of the Gospel-the doctrine of reconciliation with God through the finished work of Christ on the Cross.

If God makes a promise, what is the difference between the terms, promise and covenant ?
Pedobaptism is the actually the orthodox position from the days of the apostles to now. Children of believers were always welcomed into the Church with their believing parents, and given the sign of the new covenant, there are 5 references of whole households being baptized in the new testament.
As a former credo Baptist, I understand why David can't see it, but just because you can't see it, it doesn't mean it's not there. The mainstream Christianity of America today loves hillsong and elevation worship, especially Calvary chapels. It's no wonder tge theology is confused.
Love ya David, but you missed it on this one.
And yes I listened all the way through.

Listened with interest to only come to realize that your real problem is with total depravity - a phrase which also never appears in the Bible - but is clearly taught. So you’re an arminian and you should have just said that at the beginning. And you’re a biblicist. Let’s be fair and say who and what we are before beginning these discussions.
