My Boss GT-100 (as well as the tabletop version; the Boss GT-001), has a USB interface with re-amp abilities built in. You can record the direct signal and the effects signal simultaneously. If the mood strikes you to re-amp the track, just solo the direct track and send it back to the unit via USB and record the new sound. The best part is that it's all digital and handled over USB. The track only goes through a single analog-to-digital conversion when the guitar signal is recorded the first time. This means low noise and low latency, and the levels are always spot on and require absolutely no adjustment.
Thank you very much for explaining and showing us what Re-Amping is about. I've wondered what the point of Re-Amping is for a long time........ and now I know! Keep up the great work Ryan Bruce.
Man you are a legend thankyou for the info on cranking the output on the interface i have been playing around with the radial X and trying to figure out why it sounded slightly lacking when i re amped back into my tube amps. Thought it was just a characteristic of the re amp box or my interface.
Thanks fluff, for the tip about having your output volume on the interface turned all the way up.I was wondering why my reamping track was lacking the heavy tone,it was like I lost half the gain and I'm using my 6505+ I'm gonna try it that way today....great videos...
You're touching a subject I've been trying to ask you before regarding the volume of the Re-amp signal! I would have to say, that the volume of the DI-track & the volume of the output signal from the interface going in the Re-amp affects the tone. Wouldn't you? And if so, how do you set it up? Recording DI is one thing, and I'm with you with not making the DI Clip, but again. How do you "volume-match" the Re-amp signal with the original Guitar-signal? ;) I'm just winging it, so it sound good, but I would have to say it still does affect the tone! :)

Hi Ryan! Question for FAQ monday. Whats your opinion on garageband? Difference with garageband and logic pro? Is it worth to upgrade from garageband to logic pro when i've just started to get in the world of recording my own guitar playing for arranging songs, riffs and ideas? Thanks, keep up the good work!
I'm literately looking this up because I'm doing an essay on the mix of one of your bands songs 6 years later XD i dint think one of the band member would be giving the tutorial XD
@10:03 You may already know this but if you're using the Focusrite Mix Control you can actually disable monitor mode on said output which results in an output level of 0dB regardless of how you set your monitor volume on your interface!
I didn't know that, but as a guitarist I would never refuse to hear my real tone while playing and recording. I think that those little nuances between the specific sound behavior of your guitar amp and your instrument are quite unique, and a factor that a musician must control and feel while playing. Anyway, this technique is awesome and very creative. Is there any musician that approve this recording technique? I'm curious.
Rogeramirez when you record the dry signal like he has, he probably had an out goin to his amp at the same time as well so he can get the feel youre taking about..i.e he recorded the dry signal while also playing through his amp at the same time.. its how it done by pretty much everyone who knows what theyre doing. its so they can have the dry signal and then mess with the tone and effects afterwards..
I agree 100% but here is why I reamp sometimes - time. I only have so much time as an amateur to make up songs and then record them. I like my live sound as it's 'me' but will sometimes get a great take using an approximate amp sim in logic sitting on the sofa with headphones on. Once I have that great take I can relax and shape the tone later using my real amp mic'd. In an ideal world I would only ever record real mic'd cabs live but reamping is a good midpoint between traditional guitar recording and just using sims.
Hey Fluff, in the master section of the saffire pro software (saffire mixcontrol) if you shift-click the button related to the output you need, making it grey, it will automatically bring the level to 0 db without bringing the master level of the interface all the way up. Try it
Best re-amp vid I am curious. I have heard if you pan it wrong during this process half the signal will be lost. So up the middle for recording each mono and then pan later?
Fluff, what about latency? If you're reamping one track, but have other tracks that are already wet you might end up having phase issues. Do you find yourself having to move the tracks back slightly?
how'd you learn all this stuff? did you go to school or did you learn all this with trial and error? I'm currently getting into the recording world myself.
Really useful tutorial man, thanks. I have a doubt, how do you match the output level from your interface and the output level of a guitar? I want to send to the amp the same level I would send if I plug my guitar straight into the amp. thanks!!!
Hey Fluff! Super helpful! Been trying to figure out Reamping for a while. What I wonder though, can you reamp whilst using a pedal board? And upon first recording on Logic Pro X, do you just use a standard clean on Logic?
So you crank the volume on the interface all the way up? Is that what you are saying? In order to maximize the DI signal going to the amp? I found that part a little confusing? Great tutorial Man.
Hello Mr Ryan Bruce. first of all please excuse my English. I tried to reamp myself but could not get enough power from amp. DI track, out 1 from my interface which is Suffire 6 to reamp box that same one as you use goes to amp. pro tools say out1. not out 1-2. my interface's monitor and mixer is all the way up. reamp box's knob is all the way up too. I tried input and output. few years ago I went to studio with all my DI tracks and couldn't get enogh power. I was using radial X amp. so I went to another studio. resulted the same.... now I learned how to do it from your video and several others then tried my own came out same result. there is not enough Gain. so, I thought my X amp was broken, I purchased the same one you have. I tried but sound weak... (like as if Im playing with guitar knob set to 2 or something... not enough Gain) I went to all the forums that I could find and found out that many people are having same issue. but they could not pointed out why... btw, Im pretty sure my DI signals are fine. I tracked very low, high, and with pad switch. 2 pro studios and myself failed miserably. I used amp simulator in pro tools and sounds totally fine. do you use somekind of preamp or booster before reampbox? Thank you very much for reading. Daisuke (Dai) Wachi from Divine Era
Well, technically, the output levels can OR can *not* be controlled by the master volume of the audio interface - it depends entirely how you've got the routing & selections set up in the control software. For instance, on the Saffire 40, when the buttons for the outputs (in the mid-lower right) are blue, they're controlled by the "master" knob; when they're red, they're muted; if you Shift+click on them, they go grey, and their output is set to 100%, regardless of the position of the "master" knob.
Do you ever have to compensate for the few milliseconds of delay that occur from coming out of your interface, through the hardware and back in? I know this is something that has to be manually adjusted in Pro Tools. Just curious if Logic has some type of hardware delay compensation. Thanks.
i love reaping. i don't have a decent amp so i just record clean guitar straight to my interface and reamp them myself through my friends ac30 :) bass the same, through my friends bass amp. now i want to experiment with revamping drum tracks through guitar effects. i use a Radial Reamp Box of course
Hi, very useful tutorial! Why did you go on the Radial Reamp JCR (Passive) instead of the Radial X-Amp (active)? I am planning to buy one and just want to make a good purchase according to my needs. I just want to do "re-stomp" instead of re-amping, since I live on an appartment and I want to get the best of my stompboxes while adjusting effects on an already recorded DI track. Please let me know, thanks!
I have a countryman 85 that I usually use for recording DI into my DAW and then use amp sim & cab IR. But I am now trying to record an actual amp and then use an IR on that. I'm very confused if, once the DI has been recorded, can I then use the Countryman to reamp the signal into an amp? Or do I need a whole other box? There is an AMP output on the Countryman but looking online I see only that it is used for DI. In the manual it seems as though you can plug the instrument or pre-recorded DI into the amp, then use speaker mode to route that sound to a cab. But since I will only be using the signal from the amp direct and then use a cab sim in my DAW, is there a proper way to do this? Can this be done with the COuntryman 85 or do I need to buy a dedicated reamp box? And is there a risk of me blowing up my amp or interface if I do any of this wrong? I've watched a bunch of videos but I am still very confused, please help!
+Ryan Bruce “Fluff” Dude, I'm going to ask you a stupid question: How do you record your voice in these videos? I can't see a mic. Just confused, 'cuz your voice is so clear...
He has a condenser microphone hooked out right next to the camera so it isn't in the shot. I know someone kinda already said that but I'm just adding this because I know he uses a condenser and not a shotgun mic.
Ryan Bruce a little late on this but can you do the same thing on a vocal and instead of using an amp, can you use a pedal as an effect on something else the same way?
A couple questions (I'm very new at this), must you have a load box/attenuator when reamping? Second, can you use a cabinet as a substitute? Lastly, if you use a cabinet, is the sound of your recorded guitar tracks playing through the amp and cabinet at the level the amp is set?
1) Nope, you don't need a Two Notes or else, but it is indeed easier to record (volume doesn't annoy neighbors, etc...) 2) Yes, you can. 3) Yes, it is. It allows you to make your settings as you want and you can mess around with it as long as you want.
fluff, Do you edit your DI's in any way prior to reamping?? I don't know if you've seen the recording rock guitar class with Andrew wade on the Creativelive website but he really goes into it such quantising the DI's or even melodyning the DI's beforehand... any thoughts on this??
Fluff, at what level do you track your DI's at for re-amping? I've heard a bunch of different opinions on this and was wondering what your thoughts were.
Thanks for this, buddy! I'm really keen on recording a band soon, but live. So I was thinking about having them play the amps around the drum kit for the extra gritty bleed into the room and overheads, but still so smooth, that it is "controllable"...anyway...so I thought of giving the guitarist the opportunity to re-amp this through our gear, which is a bit nicer, though :D but I want him still to play all overdrives, wahs, delay andwhatnot's....is it reasonable to track this within the DI Signal or trying to apply this in post-prod. ?
Hi there - One thing that immediately stands out for me here is something I immediately have a question on: It seems like as far as adjusting your tone to taste, you can't really get in there and do it during playback (what I'll call "2nd recording"). It seems like you'd have to hit Record, listen to your amped sound (while the dry signal is simultaneously being played back out of the interface into the amp and the wet sound is coming back in and being recorded) and if you aren't keen on it, you'd need to adjust to taste, then re-record until you're satisfied. Do I have that right? The reason I'm asking this is because I would like a situation where (let's say I'm using a software amp, not a real amp, but it would apply to both) I'd like to just hear my tone played back through the amp of choice, and adjust it while it's playing back first before actually doing the second recording. Is there a way to do that?
Great tutorial! Am I right that you are using the JBL LSR 308? Are you satisfied with them? Just wondering cause I'm looking for some decent monitors for homerecording purposes and been thinking about getting the LSR 305. Thanks a lot and greetings from Germany
So i send my signal out of my interface, connect that to a re-amp or a DI? Then the Reamp/DI plugs into my amplifier and i can put a microphone in front of that as the signal will be coming out of the amp itself yeah? Just double checking :)
from what you you know, does it make a difference whether you record direct tracks from your guitar in hi z input or into a d.i. ? Other then the fact that the d.i can split your signal to an amp at the same time.
First video I see of you and I had to put it in *1.5... however tuto is great. I still wonder if a reamp box is really necessary. I tested several configurations where I put a jack directly from my interface output to my amp in and that was just fine!
Heyo *****, just wondering, if you're interface has line out's, Why use the reamp box? Why not send straight out of one of those outputs (only asking because I did a bit of research and only found people arguing over if it was or wasn't okay, without any real evidence behind their argument, so yea.)
@@divinodayacap3313 The scarlett alreaady has balanced outputs! You do need TS cables however, just plug those into the reamp box and you should be good to go.
What I do is exporting the wav files of the DIs to my iPad. Then using audiobus and an app called Audiophile I play the tracks thru JamUp and then re-record with my audio interface on Cubase.
Dude you up to 10.10? have you had any compatibility issues? I'm gonna wait a few months.. I had major problems upping to mavericks not going through that again.. lol
Ryan thanks for the amazing video, I learned so much. I have a question...I'm playing recorded guitars with the effects included...can I rea-amp it to and amp or it just only works with lean guitars? Pd: sorry my bad english. hello from chile!
I'd like to know a good way to do this when your interface has only two outputs and a phone output... is there a reamp device for using with headphone output impedances? Thank you.
Hey you say something of the volume in the end of your video , that you had to learn for yourself and didn't know. But what did you mean? Do you mean you have to put the master volume of your interface (or the output volume?) to the maximum to have no loss of audio information? It's really unclear...
I think the one advantage that many people forget is that because reamping is silent, you can make all your mistakes and take lots of time to get it right THERE rather than pissing off your neighbours by having your amp running for much longer, just trying to get the take right. The only thing they will hear is your now perfect take when you decide to reamp it (for a lot less time too).
If the master volume has to be all the way up, how can you monitor your re-amped tone if you aren't using a real cab? That would blow my speakers. Do you just use headphones and mute the monitors?
Hey, i got a question to ask... I've read on the internet, said that passive DI box can be use for the same purpose of Reamp box, just plug in the DI box reversely so the balanced signal can be converted back into unbalanced signal..is this true?? If its not, do you have any suggestion for cheap gears like Reamp box or other alternative ways?
Hey ***** I was wondering if you could explain some of the differences you new in the SG and LP shapes. Any sort of trends that they might carry that you might pickup on?
This is true, I also had to find out for myself that you need the master volume up, I run through a Focusrite liquid Safire. You mentioned that the master volume on the interface has to be fully up. But I don’t want my monitors on full volume while reamping. I tried turning them off but this stops any reamping signal. Is there a way round this? I could possibly try turning the DB knob down on the back of my Yamaha monitors. Thank you
Could you not use the line out from the amp to go back into your DAW after reamping? or is it better to mic? I presume you would need the reamp box for guitar pedals etc too?
what about tutorial about using vsts only for reampin guitars, like guitars straight to audio interface and then amping that DI signal with VST's only? :P
if I put the jack directly from output of interface audio (focusrite saffire pro24) to the input of my amp without dibox?! I've tried it and seems to work...
I know it's a different but I want to run my analog synthesizer through my guitar fx,I am thinking the reamp box is what I need to connect between my synth and fx? Any ideas
I've just noticed that neat arrangement thing in logic on your screen (where you've marked chorus, verse etc). Can Reaper do that? I usually use markers, but this looks so much better.
+Daniel Leonov It can. Add a marker at the start and end of the section you would like to highlight, and then double-click between the two markers up on the timeline to highlight the area between those markers. Right click in the same area of the timeline and select "Create region from selection". You can also use Shift+R if you prefer keyboard shortcuts. This will add a region from your highlighted area. You can then right click on the region and select "Edit region" to name it and give it a color. I use it all the time to map out songs.
so I've herd that you don't need a reamp or di box with the Saffire Pro 40 is it just personal preference or its about the impedance matching?I tryed it without sounded ok....
Hey Fluff, what is better for recording? Real Amp ( Peavey 6505) Real Cab ( Engl 4x12) and real Mic or a Program like Bias Desktop with simulations of the Peavey 6505 and other amps und cabs and mics?
flat spots can be a bit trick to single out exactly whats causing them. anyway. I wanted to know if you have any songs in post rock style? Without singing is what I guess I am asking in a polite way...great music btw. Later, AngryCagen
I have an Orange Rockerverb MK II amp and a Palmer PDI-03 speaker sim and TASCAM US-1641 interface. Also I'm using Studio One 3 Pro. Can I re-amp with this setup? If so, how do I plug everything to make this work. I don't have a re-amp box or DI box. I'm new to this subject, and I can't find an answer on the internet. Thank you!
Hi fluff , in a focusrite saffire 24 dsp what input i should use ? I mean The preamp ones or the line inputs? Also how i should set it in the mixer control , inst or line ? In the preamp Inputs and low gain or Hig gain on the line imputs? Also do i need a di box with this interface? Tnks
I'm recording from a powered mixer sending an RCA signal through "rec out" to a Behringer interface. My question is about getting that recorded signal from my DAW to a balanced line out. My DAW only has a stereo out. Could I run that into the "play in" RCA jacks on the powered mixer, then run the monitor send into the reamp box? There is also a quarter inch headphone jack, but I don't know if that's balanced or not. I suspect it's not. The powered mixer also has an effects loop with a quarter inch line out jack for left and right channels.
Fluff, do you have any problems with reamp signal being quieter than your guitar's signal? I own Radial Pro Rmp Reamp box (passive) and the reamped signal doesn't push the amp like guitar straight in does.
I think it may have to do with what he said at the end of the video, about maxing out your sound device's master volume because anything else is cutting volume from your amps input?
Is there any way to listen to the entire mix while recording through the reamp box? It would be nice to tweak the tone while listening to how it sounds in the mix rather than to the solo track
I am running Logic Pro X as well with an UA Apollo Twin for my computer interface. Running TRS cable out of Apollo Twin (using Mono 3 in Logic Pro X and on back of Apollo Twin) into Pigtronix Keymaster then TRS out of Keymaster back into Apollo Twin Input 1. It's just creating a really bad feeback loop and I'm not getting any track sound at all. What am I doing wrong?
I can't seem to get my signal to be loud enough going into the amp. It doesn't push at all. I'm running my signal out of a Behringer UMC404 into an ART Dual RDB into a Peavey Classic 50. Even with the drive channel, there is no push in the amp. Any suggestions?
I got a problem with my outputs. I got an scarlet 18i20 and soon as I’m plug my re amp box in my output 3 and choose that output, it doesn’t works when I’m plugging it in my monitor outputs it works fine. But how can I use both?
Hi guys! I have a Steinberg UR44 audio interface. It has two main outputs: left and right. Each output is unbalanced as far as I know. How can I connect the left main output of Steinberg UR44 to the balanced input of Radial Pro RPM?
I recommend doing all your edits, manual gates, and quantization prior to reampimg. It will sound way more natural.
I dont mean to be off topic but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Chad Samson instablaster :)
Arrow shots are, by far, my favorite part of this video.
I didn't hear "Riffs, beards, and gear" I heard "Rasputin gear"
I did as well.
I thought so too.
It's a way more cool profile name

you do record a live, mic'd amp when reamping
Yes, but I don't have to play guitar while doing it as I already have my take as a dry signal.

Great job man! One question: does the output really have to be balanced?
Outputs of focusrite are TRS...Yet you plug a XLR out of focusrite into reamp box.....Great start for an explanation
how'd you learn all this stuff? did you go to school or did you learn all this with trial and error? I'm currently getting into the recording world myself.
I think the Pro 40's mix control software actually has a way to route the signal in which the volume knob does not affect certain outputs.
Really useful tutorial man, thanks. I have a doubt, how do you match the output level from your interface and the output level of a guitar? I want to send to the amp the same level I would send if I plug my guitar straight into the amp. thanks!!!
Wow those tracks are extremely hot. How does that affect your mixes? Are they too squashed or does recording that how work well for your genre?
Best tutorial to date! Keep up the good work!
Great tutorial, that's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks.
Hey Fluff! Super helpful! Been trying to figure out Reamping for a while. What I wonder though, can you reamp whilst using a pedal board? And upon first recording on Logic Pro X, do you just use a standard clean on Logic?

Thank you very much!!!

Yes it has that, the safari pro 40 he's using has a few options too.
Thanks Ryan, I've been wondering about this for a while.
Great video! I have almost the exact same set up.
Which Radial Preamp would you recommend to go from the DAW back into the Amp? the X-Amp?

There is an AMP output on the Countryman but looking online I see only that it is used for DI.
In the manual it seems as though you can plug the instrument or pre-recorded DI into the amp, then use speaker mode to route that sound to a cab. But since I will only be using the signal from the amp direct and then use a cab sim in my DAW, is there a proper way to do this? Can this be done with the COuntryman 85 or do I need to buy a dedicated reamp box? And is there a risk of me blowing up my amp or interface if I do any of this wrong? I've watched a bunch of videos but I am still very confused, please help!
I don`t understand how to get a balanced XLR output from your interface, when all of the outputs are jack outs. How did you do that?
+MrKRUBERLICK TRS to XLR cable
+Ryan Bruce “Fluff” Dude, I'm going to ask you a stupid question: How do you record your voice in these videos? I can't see a mic. Just confused, 'cuz your voice is so clear...
He has a condenser microphone hooked out right next to the camera so it isn't in the shot. I know someone kinda already said that but I'm just adding this because I know he uses a condenser and not a shotgun mic.
Nice I thought I was the only one thinking that.
1) Nope, you don't need a Two Notes or else, but it is indeed easier to record (volume doesn't annoy neighbors, etc...)
2) Yes, you can.
3) Yes, it is. It allows you to make your settings as you want and you can mess around with it as long as you want.
Thank you for your insight :)

What if your interface don't have an output. Can I use my Macs headphone output to a re amp box and record it on another device?
@@schipbreukeling3 I don’t think the signal levels will be the same, though. What interface do you have ?

fluff, Do you edit your DI's in any way prior to reamping?? I don't know if you've seen the recording rock guitar class with Andrew wade on the Creativelive website but he really goes into it such quantising the DI's or even melodyning the DI's beforehand... any thoughts on this??
Good stuff man! First time I hear of re-amping. Pretty cool
i know re-amp technology about 10 years already (through articles) but this is the first time i see the demo how the technology works
In the case of a hurry, a buffered stompbox in bypass mode could work as a emergency reamp substitute?
So, just to clarify, I need to record with the di box first, and then send it through the reamp box?
So i send my signal out of my interface, connect that to a re-amp or a DI?
Then the Reamp/DI plugs into my amplifier and i can put a microphone in front of that as the signal will be coming out of the amp itself yeah?
Just double checking :)
Amazing video man! thanks for the tips.
from what you you know, does it make a difference whether you record direct tracks from your guitar in hi z input or into a d.i.
I wonder the same thing.
Great video Ryan, great channel too. Thanks for sharing this typs with us! :)
are you going line out of the pro 40 useing a trs male to male xlr ?
I'm so stoned that I forgot I searched this topic before I closed UA-cam that I was freaked out when it popped up.
Heyo *****, just wondering, if you're interface has line out's,
Why use the reamp box? Why not send straight out of one of those outputs (only asking because I did a bit of research and only found people arguing over if it was or wasn't okay, without any real evidence behind their argument, so yea.)
+1 for your guitar bass player... but not as harsh as it could have been...easter egg reference seen there!! i like it!!
How do you connect the reamp unit to the unbalanced outputs of the recording interface (scarlett)?
same thoughts. help us!
@@divinodayacap3313 The scarlett alreaady has balanced outputs! You do need TS cables however, just plug those into the reamp box and you should be good to go.
If I have a DI box, no re-amp box and no money, can I use the DI box as a re-amp box by hooking it up backwards?
Thanks!!
I'd like to know a good way to do this when your interface has only two outputs and a phone output... is there a reamp device for using with headphone output impedances? Thank you.
Ni noticed on your computer you have Adobe Audition. Do you use it for anything, do you just keep it because it came with the creative cloud package?
Great tutorial. Just stumbled on your channel from the dissonant aggressor pickup video. This channel is fucking awesome! Keep up the good work.
Been watching a long time. I still love your intro tune.
I have a USB mixer with 1/4 inch inputs that I use. Would that be a good substitute for an interface?
Hey, i got a question to ask... I've read on the internet, said that passive DI box can be use for the same purpose of Reamp box, just plug in the DI box reversely so the balanced signal can be converted back into unbalanced signal..is this true?? If its not, do you have any suggestion for cheap gears like Reamp box or other alternative ways?
Hey ***** I was wondering if you could explain some of the differences you new in the SG and LP shapes. Any sort of trends that they might carry that you might pickup on?
Would it work if the DI output from your audio interface was send to the amp and then the amp to a attenuator box before hitting the speaker? 🙂
Brandon Sullivan Thanks a lot, Brandon! That really worked.
so I've herd that you don't need a reamp or di box with the Saffire Pro 40 is it just personal preference or its about the impedance matching?I tryed it without sounded ok....
Would re-amping be possible if you're recording outside of the box (i.e. not to ProTools but rather analog to an ADAT?)
Hey Fluff, what is better for recording?
Real Amp ( Peavey 6505) Real Cab ( Engl 4x12) and real Mic or a Program like Bias Desktop with simulations of the Peavey 6505 and other amps und cabs and mics?
sweet, I already thought my focusrite would work, and now I know
flat spots can be a bit trick to single out exactly whats causing them. anyway. I wanted to know if you have any songs in post rock style? Without singing is what I guess I am asking in a polite way...great music btw.

In the preamp
Inputs and low gain or
Hig gain on the line imputs?
Thanks you for the help. Well done!
