Norma is a tragedia lirica or opera in two acts by Vincenzo Bellini with libretto by Felice Romani after the play "Norma, ou L'infanticide" (Norma, or The Infanticide) by Alexandre Soumet. It was first produced at La Scala in Milan on 26 December 1831.

This is totally the best recording of this and Norma in general. I feel that the excitement of La Callas at this time pushed all these great singers to give their very best. One really feels the drama come alive!
I also think that the fact that the internal competition with the various voice types was very high has something to do with it.

Sounds like there are 2 guys singing Flavio, haha. One guy at first, and then from 1:21 on it is someone else. When you listen to the phrase at 00:24 then immediately click on 5:27 it's easy to hear the difference. Guess they spliced parts from 2 different performances together, each with a differrent Flavio. I used to have a recording of this where "Flavio #1" here is the only Flavio, so when I first listened to this I did a double take when "Flavio #2" started singing!
