I like it when these self publishing gurus talk so seriously about self publishing and what a lucrative business it is, even though self publishing is one of the most unrespected publishing in the world and most of the self publishers are just dreamers who sell one to ten books per year. Probably bought by them or their families.
Hey Mes Djz! Thank you for tuning in! It can be very lucrative, if you know how to do it right. Self-publishing isn't unrespected necessarily, but poorly published books are. You just have to take the time to do your research and create a good product. Best of luck to you!
Hello. If my authors or artists I make books for want to order resell copies how would you suggest I handle that and still make money on those books? Considering KDP doesn't pay me for the author copies that I order.
Hi @WakeUpPeople1! There are a few ways you could do this. You could publish the books on Lulu's bookstore in select access (meaning only people with the URL can find the book) and then share the link with them to purchase copies at whatever price you set. You can also do this through your own website using Lulu Direct. Here's more information on selling books with Lulu: www.lulu.com/sell
Question: What's the benefit of own publishing company since independent publisher post book on same pod sites that pay you a measly 20%. It seems like autonomy is a lot more work, a little more cloud without any extra financial benefits?
Hi Very Fine People! Thanks for tuning in! Starting your own publishing company or imprint is not for everyone, but if you plan on writing several books it can be a very worthwhile investment. Even if you're only publishing your own work, establishing a publishing imprint can help validate your brand and allows you to maintain brand continuity. And the best part is - if you utilize our app for Shopify, you can keep 100% of the revenue from sales, not a measly 20%!
Great question! With our App for Shopify, you only pay the manufacturing cost of the book. For example, if your book cost $5 to make, and you sell it for $15, you keep 100% of the $10 profit. For more information, visit: ecommerce.lulu.com/
Hello Antonio! Yes you can publish on our website! You would just go to Lulu.com create an account and start uploading your files to create a book. Heres a great article on how to get started with us: help.lulu.com/en/support/solutions/articles/64000255486-how-to-create-a-print-book
I want to change the cover and revise a book that i published a while back. so, if I understood correctly, when they put the ISBN # the name of my prior publisher will show up. I am revising the book because I don't like what she did or how she did it. so I don't want her name on it. do I need a new # or can I just remove her name?
The ISBN identifies a specific edition of a published book. So without a new ISBN, the old publisher's edition will always come up. If you intend to publish many books in the future, ISBNS are cheaper by the 10 and significantly cheaper by the 100.
Why don't you have 5x8 as a book size? It's a very common size. I was going to upload a book but now I can't. Mine is 5x8 and that's how it's listed with my ISBN. There's no changing it.
Hey Kevin and Nigel, thanks for letting us know. This hasn't been a size we've gotten a lot of requests for but we can certainly look into it and appreciate the feedback!
Hi Crystal! You can use offset printing to create your own publishing company. Lulu uses Print-On-Demand technology, but you can use whatever works best for you.

@@luludotcom I'm asking why you don't support 5x8. It's a common size. All my fiction are 5x8. That's not going to change. Why don't you support 5x8?
Yeah, 5x8 would be a great addition!
