- Biographical examination of the life and work of the highly acclaimed American self-taught sculptor Judith Scott, presented in The Museum of Everything's Exhibition #4.1, the UK's first retrospective of Scott's work.
Judith Scott was born deaf and with Down's Syndrome. Her artistic practice developed at the Creative Growth Art Center in California, where she first began to bind found materials with yarn, string and fabric. She went on to gain international recognition with leading figures such as Cindy Sherman, David Byrne and Mathew Higgs who cites Scott's work as among the most important of the 20th Century.
The piece was made for BBC 2's The Culture Show, presented by Miranda Sawyer and features interviews with Scott's twin sister Joyce, Creative Growth director Tom di Maria and The Museum of Everything founder James Brett.
@ 1:28 "...Judith had a twin sister who was perfectly healthy." Judith was PERFECTLY healthy too. The doctor was the sick one.
What a heart breaking, bittersweet, inspirational story. I LOVE her art. It's so cool. Complex but simple.
Listing from the BBC story because of her sister and the love they had for one another , and the time apart reflex on the love she miss ,and bring it out in this beautiful works..
The BBC just aired Judy’s story via her sister Joyce.
A lovely, albeit sad story.
Thank you so much
I was so drawn to Judith's store, and so happy she was able to leave her art for other's to see and enjoy!!! Long ago I had a sister born unable to see, hear, and was totally disabled...at the age of 3 she went into an institution (court ordered) and after getting on a bus for years with my mom going to see her, we were adviced it just upset her so the visits stopped. Broke my heart...she was well taken care of and passed at the age of 48. Now with God she's doing all the things she loves!!
I'm here in the future (1/8/17), just wondering, how much does her work sell for? $$$
