    ======================================================
    Achilles
    Achilles
    Achilles come down, won't you
    Get up off
    Get up off the roof?
    You're scaring us
    And all of us
    Some of us love you
Achilles, it's not much but there's proof
    You crazy assed cosmonaut
    Remember your virtue
    Redemption lies plainly in truth
    Just humor us
    Achilles
    Achilles come down
    Won't you get up off
    Get up off the roof
    Achilles
    Achilles
    Achilles come down, won't you
    Get up off
    Get up off the roof?
The self is not so weightless
    Nor whole and unbroken
Remember the pact of our youth
    Where you go
    I'm going
    So jump and I'm jumping
Since there is no me without you
    Soldier on
    Achilles
    Achilles come down
    Won't you get up off
    Get up off the roof?
Loathe the way they light candles in Rome
But love the sweet air of the votives
Hurt and grieve but don't suffer alone
Engage with the pain as a motive
    Today of all days
    See
How the most dangerous thing is to love
How you will heal and you'll rise above
    Achilles
    Achilles
    Achilles
    Jump now
    You are absent of cause
    Or excuse
    So self-indulgent
    And self-referential
No audience could ever want you
    You crave the applause
    Yet hate the attention
Then miss it, your act is a ruse
    It is empty, Achilles
    So end it all now
    It's a pointless resistance
    For you
    Achilles
    Achilles
    Just put down the bottle
Don't listen to what you've consumed
    It's chaos, confusion
    And wholly unworthy
Of feeding and it's wholly untrue
    You may feel no purpose
    Nor a point for existing
It's all just conjecture and gloom
And there may not be meaning
So find one and seize it
Do not waste yourself on this roof
Hear those bells ring deep in the soul
    Chiming away for a moment
Feel your breath course frankly below
See life as a worthy opponent
    Today of all days
    See
How the most dangerous thing is to love
How you will heal and you'll rise above
Crowned by an overture bold and beyond
Ah, it's more courageous to overcome
    You want the acclaim
The mother of mothers (it's not worth it Achilles)
    More poignant than fame
Or the taste of another (don't listen Achilles)
But be real and just jump
You dense motherfucker (you're worth more, Achilles)
    You will not be more
Than a rat in the gutter (so much more than a rat)
You want my opinion (no one asked your opinion)
    My opinion you've got
You asked for my counsel (no one asked for your thoughts)
    I gave you my thoughts
Be done with this now (Be done with this now)
And jump off the roof (And get off the roof)
    Can you hear me Achilles?
    I'm talking to you
    I'm talking to you
    I'm talking to you
    I'm talking to you
    Achilles come down
    Achilles come down
    Throw yourself into the unknown
With pace and a fury defiant
    Clothe yourself in beauty untold
And see life as a means to a triumph
    Today of all days
    See
How the most dangerous thing is to love
How you will heal and you'll rise above
Crowned by an overture bold and beyond
Ah, it's more courageous to overcome

To be fair, people with English accents tend to mispronounce foreign names, including ancient Grecian names. So the closest to the correct pronunciation you'll get is how the Greek pronounce it but even then it could be off, old and modern English don't sound that similar either and ancient Grecian is way older than old English.

    • @user-bi3cj8ly7c
      @user-bi3cj8ly7c 11 місяців тому +5

@@nataliiroobasRight! For instance, they pronounce the I in PRIAM like you do in the word IDEA. It should be pronounced like the I in KING (I am Greek and that's how we say them. The modern Greek way is the closest you can get since we do not know exactly how they pronounced the words in the Homeric - not to mention the Mycenaean - language.

"...he smiled, and his face was like the sun."
"Achilles’ eyes were bright in the firelight, his face drawn sharply by the flickering shadows. I would know it in dark or disguise, I told myself. I would know it even in madness."
"I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world."
"His trust was a part of him, as much as his hands or his miraculous feet. And despite my hurt, I would not wish to see it gone, to see him as uneasy and fearful as the rest of us, for any price."
"I had seen the way he looked at Deidameia; or rather the way he did not. It was the same way he had looked at the boys in Phthia, blank and unseeing. He had never, not once, looked at me that way."
“What has Hector ever done to me?”
“My life is my reputation,” he says. His breath sounds ragged. “It is all I have. I will not live much longer. Memory is all I can hope for.”
"There is no fame greater than this-you will prove to them all that your phantom is more powerful than Agamemnon’s whole army."
"His tears fall, but I cannot wipe them away."
“My consolation is that we will be together in the underworld. That we will meet again there, if not in this life. I would not wish to be there without her.”
“I have done it,” she says. At first I do not understand. But then I see the tomb, and the marks she has made on the stone. ACHILLES, it reads. And beside it, PATROCLUS.
“Go,” she says. “He waits for you.”
In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun."
*"I will never leave him. It will be this, always, for as long as he will let me."*
The Song of Achilles has changed my life. This is the most beautiful book I have ever read, enjoyed, and felt. It will take me forever to find another one that could even come close to what this book has made me experience.
Edit: I made a playlist, because I love this book so much. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/SP7fbLUUJP4/v-deo.html

Not me sobbing all over again like I did when I first read The Song of Achilles in quarantine, December 2020. I could not put the book down and although I knew the ending, I still could not stop the tears when Patroclus passed, but the ending! This new ending was so beautiful it inspired me to finally start my own novel set in the Hellenistic period. Madelline Miller brought to life what I and so many others knew to be true when we first read/studied The Illiad, and I still thank her years later for her amazing contribution. Today I'm still reading her other book, Circe, but I promise I'll eventually finish it! :)

I forgot all about this comment it’s been so long 😂 My book is still not finished because I’ve actually been working on a Tapas novel, but it’ll be called “Hera’s Envy.” I hope to finish the first draft before the end of this year, though! My Tapas novel takes precedence because I’m under a contract with it right now 😅 The webnovel is called “OMEGA Magazine,” and is not at ALL like my Greek book (it’s a contemporary romcom set in the omegaverse).

The thing that rlly killed me while reading TSOA is realizing the parallel between page 46 and page 323. 46, Patroclus asks Achilles to fight him to which he says “I will not. Do not ask me again”. 323, Patroclus asks Achilles to fight for him and the people, Achilles says “I will not do this. Do not ask again”
