exactly. i just finished the book. and where i am at it is currently 3:06 a.m. so i just finished reading it at night and i can’t stop feeling this disturbingly sad, miserable and empty feeling. this is so sad, how am i supposed to sleep, i guess i won’t. btw this is like the closest thing to what i was imagining while reading the book. like the characters look so insanely alike with how i imagined them.. this is crazy. and also, i’m sorry for saying a lot, i just really need to talk to someone who has had the same feeling about a month ago.. this book is so emotionally pleasuring

They were together since children the same as Alexander the Great and Heohaistion you decadent barbarians. They went thru everything together, they were philophers and real men bound by the institution of friendship which was sacred in Ancient Greece. Meaningful and very powerful friendship of souls. No disgusting lie propagated on purpose by a sick barbarian author who seeks personal and financial gain, can ruin their image. Keep believing lies so you feel good about your abnormality. Keep living in your fantasy proof-less world. It’s called brotherhood, lies propagated on purpose by the system and the abnormals in order to give a fake historic depth of homosexuality in order for us to accept it today. Sick parasites. Your abnormality is your own, no amount of lies can change the truth and it hurts you and it forever will. Also gays can’t fight, gays can’t be the best warriors of all time, only men can, illogical non thinking schizophrenic clowns. Keep the holy Greeks out of your disgusting barbaric mouths. Words cannot describe how truly beautiful this is. I don't usually leave comments but... just... gosh, every frame of this is stunning. The expressions, the proportions, the settings, everything is on point. The Song of Achilles is my favourite book and this is just amazing. Totally did the book justice!
The rest of this comments will be me gushing about my favourite frames lol
    (Spoilers for the book)
0:24 Oh Achilles, if only you stayed like this for the whole book
    0:35 Flustered Patroclus is everything
0:47 Idk why, but this frame of dead Patroclus really speaks to me. It's exaclty how I imagined Pat as an adult tbh
0:51 The absolute look of horror is so well done
1:00 To be honest, I don't know why I love this scene so much, but I do
1:09 Actually, scratch what I said before, Achilles, why couldn't you stay like *this* for the entire book?
    1:11 This is cute
    1:23 Figs, no context
1:41 I LOVE how Mt Pelion looks! Also Pat's expression is just _chef's kiss_
1:46 Pat absolutely failing battle training while Achilles is being wholesome is a mood. Idk which mood, but a mood
1:55 This has to be my favourite frame. It's just so wholesome!
2:05 Ima be honest, I'm not sure if this is Achilles or Deidameia
2:20 Briseis makes an appearance! Also nailed the facial expressions here!
2:32 *It was at this moment he knew... he'd f***** up*
2:38 "Go, he waits for you"

I was inspired by all the additional lyrics so here's something I made:
    Crowns, Brothers, Swords
    Soldier, poet and king,
    The three were brothers adored.
    Content with their chosen paths,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord,
    Content with their chosen paths,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    There will come a lady,
    Whose beauty can't be ignored.
She will tear those brothers down,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
She will tear those brothers down,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    Oh, here comes the soldier,
    Swinging his mighty sword,
He has seen the lady now,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
He has seen the lady now,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    Oh, here comes the poet,
    Singing his mighty word.
He has seen his brother now,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
He has seen his brother now,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    Each man claims the lady,
    As she watches on, bored.
Even as they draw their swords,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
Even as they draw their swords,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    Ah, here comes the ruler,
With the crown he could afford.
    Wondering where his brothers were,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
    Wondering where his brothers were,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
The king, the myth, the legend,
    Decides she's his reward.
Still, he asks his brothers why,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
Still, he asks his brothers why,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    "The poet is youngest!",
    And so the soldier implored.
The king favors him, he thinks,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
The king favors him, he thinks,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    The soldier, the poet,
    Their eldest, they had adored.
    Forgot his blind ambition,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
    Forgot his blind ambition.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    Brothers three, no longer,
As the king drew his sword.
    Is ambition not but greed?
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
    Is ambition not but greed?
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    Soldier and his ruler,
    Clashed their mighty swords.
The poet stood without his song,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
The poet stood without his song,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    The king, he was older,
Drew blood, but his brother roared.
The king's crown fell to the ground,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
The king's crown fell to the ground,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
"Oh, brother, where is your crown?
    Little brother, where's your Lord?"
The poet's last word was "Please!",
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
The poet's last word was "Please!",
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    "The poet slayed the king,
His death was his own reward."
So says the new king and queen,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
So says the new king and queen,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    The night after their wedding,
The queen held dagger not sword.
The soldier's last word was "Please!"
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
The soldier's last word was "Please!"
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
The queen, she wept onions, Dead was the one she "adored".
    "Assassination!" She cried,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
    "Assassination!" She cried,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh Lord.
    A kingdom without king,
    Is a dragon without hoard.
They will burn whole cities down, Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord. They will burn whole cities down,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    So ends the legacy,
Of crowns and brothers and swords.
Kingdoms are ruled by queens now,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
Kingdoms are ruled by queens now, Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    Now do you remember,
The city the soldier had warred?
The lady was the princess there,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
The lady was the princess there,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh Lord.
    The poet charmed the queen,
The king's trust in him, he stored.
He will slay the city soon ,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
He will slay the city soon.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    "Expand our land further!",
    The king commanded his ward.
He was young and made of thorn,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
He was young and made of thorn,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    The city that was torn,
Their rulers were shown the sword.
Blood ran through the city's drains,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
Blood ran through the city's drains,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh Lord.
    The princess who escaped,
Vengeance in her heart, she stored.
    For the soldier, poet, king,
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord.
    For the soldier, poet, king
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord.
    There will come a woman,
    Whose beauty can't be ignored.

I know I’m over a year late but I just finished this book for the first time last night and have been almost grief-stricken since. This is also going to be a pretty long comment, so sorry about that in advance, but I still wanted to post it in hopes that the creator of this animation might see it. I’m not an avid reader, or at least I haven’t been in many years, but I chose to read this book in wake of some personal realizations and admissions with myself and I’m very glad that I did. I woke up this morning and my first thought was of Patroclus and Achilles. I do this stupid/silly thing when I read books where I look at the last word, just for fun. I saw the last word as home and thought that signified a happy ending. Nearing the end of the book when Pat is detailing his death, I was almost in denial. I knew of Achilles and the Battle of Troy, but not to an extent that I knew their story prior to reading. I hadn’t realized what had happened until a few pages later when I realized we were now following Achilles. I had rushed past Pat’s death in an attempt to get to the part with their happy ending. I then read on about Achilles rage and his end. But the part that hurt the most was returning to Pat as a shade, unable to be with Achilles. I thought about how horrible that would be, stuck for eternity waiting and praying for someone to fix it. Then Thetis comes and they talk, at this point I was still reading quickly, trying to finish the book with my eyes clear enough to read since I thought there was more to come, when I read the final page. I was in disbelief and learned that before I started reading the book, when I read the last word, I had actually read the last word of the acknowledgments section, not the book itself. It was this pit in my heart that did not go away as I slept. I dreamed of them and fixing their story. I didn’t know if I wanted them to be real people, their bodies really buried somewhere in Greece, or if I wanted them to be fiction, just another dramatized spout from Greek myth. I wasn’t sure what hurt worse and so I couldn’t choose. It wasn’t until this morning when I woke up, still with a heavy heart when I realized that I needed to learn about where they were. So I researched Elysium and what it meant. I found that Elysium was “a place or condition of ideal happiness.” Thanks to the final statement of the book we know they meet again. I told myself that they were happy together. With as many lyres as they needed. As many figs as Achilles could juggle and Patroclus could throw and catch. With as much space as they wanted to race each other and swim in the sea. With all the things Achilles used that made Patroclus able to recognize him as easily as he could. Both of them, no longer needing to fight for other Kings’ wars and for each other. And with no prophetic timer counting down their separation. I had given them a happy ending that I was comfortable with, and that eased the pain in my chest to an extent, but I still had a feeling of despair gnawing at me. The dread Pat faced before they were able to reunite, I wasn’t able to imagine Thetis and Pat talking and Thetis finally carving Patroclus’ name on their grave. I had read over this part too fast, not truly taking it in in that initial moment. And while I have gone back to read and to understand I wasn’t able to visualize that moment happening in the magical haze that I read the book in. It was separate, almost as if wasn’t real or it didn’t really happen. That was until I watched this video and saw the scene of Thetis and Patroclus and then saw their properly named grave. This book means so much to me already, only having carried its full burden for less than a day, and I’m so grateful that I found this and had you prove to me that they really did get a happy ending. Your work is amazing and oh so beautiful and has affirmed my want to create. Thank you so much.

To shout out a couple parts that really stood out to me-the frame of the lyre with the golden light and floating dust mites, the part with achilles juggling the figs, the flashing of the cut on patroclus's hand where he had made the oath, thetis's red lips and the fins on her ears, the reflection of apollo in patroclus's eye, the brief shot of pregnant deidamia, all the parts where you showed young carefree patroclus or achilles vs them as doomed soldiers in the future, the part with thetis and ghost patroclus standing at the tomb and then patroclus's name on the tomb at last.
