Great video. What's helped me run my 40 marathons, including 3 Boston, is "the miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start." Good job and congrats.
Thanks so much! It means a lot coming from such an experienced marathoner like you! You know the struggle only too well!
great to finally meet you in person!
Likewise! 👊🏽 Great racing out there!
Hooray for Matt and all the Boston runners. What an absolute affirmation of the human spirit to overcome adversities of the past and the present. To participate is to win. You are all champions!
"To participate is to win" I love this, and it captures the finish line atmosphere perfectly!
Well done Matt! Looking forward to seeing you in Cape Town for the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (56km) in 2024!
🤣 I would love to run this race! It looks absolutely stunning!
Oh and Matt I went from a 4.15 to a 3.30 finisher in Manchester last weekend in my second marathon. Bit bad for a 52 year old! Secrets in the training, and the experience of knowing what's coming in a marathon. Set the cruise control and bring it home...😉💪🏾
What? Wow! What a mammoth improvement from a good time to an amazing time! Well done to you! Impressive! You're right about the experience changing things; once you've done a marathon it's easier to wrap your head around the distance and just go for it! Nicely done!
Congrats Matt and all you Boston runners!
It was fun watching your video as usual.
🤞 In a few years I'll run Boston too.. Just need to figure how to get in with qualifying :)
Thanks, Ken! Good luck qualifying! How ever long it takes, it's worth the time putting in the work! Keep crushing it!
Incredible race! So emotional! Felt like we were right there with you!
It was a blast while I was running (not so much after) and the atmosphere at the finish was electric!
Yay!! You picked the right hat!! 😊 Congratulations! Thank you for sharing the experience with us!!
YES! The hat saved the day! Can you imagine how bad it would have been if I had worn the black hat?🤣
Thanks so much for the congrats!🙌🏽
excellent race, video streaming, commentary and all, dude!! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Bye now from Athens (Greece). On Sunday I run in a 10K race. Take care!!! Awesome!!
Thanks for watching and good luck in your 10k this weekend! 💪🏽
Oh man, you brought your sunglasses but didn't need them, you left your gloves but did need them. haha Anyways, epic video! You are THE EXAMPLE of running achievement! Congrats Matt.💪
🤣 Yeah, I guess a few decisions could have been better! (I'm not upset I brought the sunglasses!)
Exceptional work showing 👍 ...Fidippidis would wonder why people run marathons!
🤣 He sure would! He’d think we’re crazy!
I'm literally crossing the finish right behind you (10861). Had no idea you were there 😂. I've watched many of your videos.
Well done and great racing, Joseph! How fun to find yourself in the video! I’m surprised how many people let me know they were in it!
That’s meeeeee!!!!! 🇹🇹 I got a shout out. I’m saving this video 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
🤣 Before your comment I was 100% going to skip the breakfast scene this year!🍌
This was so exciting to watch!!! What a great video. I'm going for hip surgery (FAI / labrum tear) in 2 days, and hopefully I'll be back up and running again in a few months. Next year, I will see you on the road at one of our Floridian races!
Thanks for watching and good luck with your hip surgery! You'll be back before you know it!💪🏽
Thank you for showing the emotional release. That’s such a special moment. Congratulations and thank you for your inspiration.
Thanks, Chad! Marathons aren't always emotional like this one was. It kind of came out of no where and surprised me at the end! I've run a lot of marathons and have only felt like this after a few of them!
"...and if it's NOT a good race, I'm gonna edit that part out of the video" 🤣. Congrats, Matt!!! You're like a local hero!
🤣
So cool I made your video… 9:04-9:15. 10871. We started in same corral and had similar runs. Thanks for sharing this!!!
Congrats on a great race and I’m so glad you made the video! 👍🏽
You killed it, great race. I was at the finish as a volunteer and somehow missed you... Most of the feedback I heard from the runner was about the struggle with the wind and the rain. Would you still choose the Saucony Elite over the Vaporfly 3?
Ahh! Sorry I missed you, and thanks for volunteering! I can't say the wind was an issue for me! I didn't actually notice it was overly windy! The rain/cold was what I struggled with!
Yes, I would choose the Elite over the VF3 again. The Elite just felt so good at the end of the race!
You are amazing. Thankyou for the clips of races you do. I just love them.
I get emotional at the end of a race. Love your positivity. I can’t imagine being that cold. As it not that cold where I live.
Thanks again and we’ll done.
You're too kind! Thank you, Jody! I also live in a warm place, so the cold hits harder for us, right?! That's what i'm telling myself! I'm sure the locals didn't think it was too cold out! 🤣
You’ve done a great job!!! Congratulations on running this marathon! And Thank you for sharing the video of it! That’s so cool!!!
Thanks for watching and for your kind kind words, Anna!
Love the video bro! Amazing how you can run that far and still talk and do a video... Absolutely amazing! Love from Atlanta ga ❤️
Thanks so much, Deshun! I appreciate you watching and your kind words, my man!
Congratulations Matt!! Remember many like me are still just Boston wannabes...but you qualified and already ran it. So proud of you and I hope day I too could line up at Boston.
Thanks so much! The good fortune is not lost on me! Keep up the great work; you’ll get there!
I had a very similar day..finished 4 seconds faster than you, but also felt like I was ready to be sub 3:10....the cold and headwind and rains definitely slowed me some..still very happy with the day...congrats
Congrats on a great race! Yeah, the conditions weren't ideal, but it was still a lot of fun!
Awesome finish Matt. Thank you for sharing!!
It was a great race! Thanks for watching!
Don’t show the breakfast, making me hungry🤣🤣 & also you forgot to say to comment the medal 🥇 emoji if you stayed for the entire video. Here it is. 🥇🥇🥇🥇
Congrats on the Boston marathon!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😁
Thanks for watching the whole vid, Jorge! Did someone say breakfast? It's time to eat!
I really enjoyed following along with your Boston journey Matt! So much fun and I loved the emotional finish! Great job! Keep pushing my friend!
Cheers, Paul! Some races hit a little harder than others!
Cheers, Matt B.! You are an inspiration! (More than) "PRETTY GOOD!"
You're too kind! Thank you!🙌🏽
I had to make that same walk for over a mile. IT WAS SO COLD. well done! We finished 9 seconds apart!
COngratulations and great racing, Jack! It's funny we were so close! I hope you got warmed up quickly!! How are your legs feeling now?
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Amazing! Congratulations! 👌🏻🥳🤩
Thanks so much, Christine! It was a great day!
Great video Matt just just shows me how much I want to do Boston . Fantastic time keep up the good work 👍🏅👏🍺💪💪
Cheers, Brian! Boston is a juice that is worth the squeeze!
That finish line is epic Matt!!!❤❤❤ congratulations again. Well done!!! And you were smiling the whole time. So emotional.
I watched it with Harmony and I was getting the feels all over again!🤣 Thanks, Suz!
Well done Matt! I always shed a tear or two when I crossed the finish line of my marathons many years ago😂 Enjoyed your video!
Thanks so much, RH! Yeah, the marathon can be an emotional experience! It just adds to the allure of the distance!
congrats Matt!! well done! so inspiring! Wow..amazing and great content also!
Thanks a lot, Phil! It really was a great race, and a great race is fun to film!
You should be so proud of yourself! What a fantastic journey. I’m so impressed.
It was a fantastic day, albeit a little chilly at the end! Thanks, Mic!
Respect!!! One question. Have you eaten an energygel during your race??
Thank you! Yes! I had 4 Maurten gels: 3 regular and 1 caffeinated!
I looked for you but there were so many people! Great race Matt! Congratulations!!!! PS I was kinda cold for the first 4-5 miles. Us southern people not used to that coolness this time of year (I wore some arm sleeves) but for running, PERFECT!!! I thought the hills were easy. I stopped and kissed a girl in Wellesley and drank beer in BC. Totally epic!!!!!!
A kiss and a beer? You ran the race right!🤣
I thought the chill at the start of the race was ideal! Perfect for running! It was when the rain really started that I began to feel cold! Oh well! It would have been far worse if it had been warm!
Great racing, Jim! You really left something in the tank for your sprint to the finish!💪🏽
@@its_Matt_B_ My Boston block was horrible with Covid and a stress reaction. I ran race off effort and tried to even split the race! Mission accomplished
Great Vid👍. I ran it as well and agree it was freezing as soon as you finish. I went onto the warming bus
I didn't even know there was a warming bus! Congrats on your race!
Very nice career, congratulations!! I have some doubts about how it behaves on Apple Watch ultra, your feelings at the career level and its battery. Did you start the race with 100% battery? Do I end well? With a 40 or 50 battery.
It would be nice to review your experience with the ultra.
Thanks very much
Thanks so much! I’ll put together a running review of the AWU soon! I didn’t notice the exact battery percentage before the race, but I always get two full days out of the AWU when I use several hours of GPS tracking each day!
@@its_Matt_B_ ok! Thanks 💪
Looks brutal. No taxi on the way back? Or hide in a coffee shop. The result is due to the Tracksmith hat. I agree with wearing a hat. I always do it in the rain. I always thought that a winter race is better but now I understand cold and DRY.. Cold and wet is like my life in Holland which luckily I ditched for warmer part of the world. 🎉
Yeah, cold and wet is not ideal (to say the least)! Last year was cold, dry, and sunny, which could account for me being 6 minutes faster last year! The hat was really handy when it started to rain!
Awesome race Matt!! Congrats!! Brilliant job! It was definitely cold, raw and wet...I was running a 5 miler in Lexington MA just a few miles away while you were running Boston. 🥶 in spite of the weather glad we both had a great experience 😊
Thanks so much, Bren! Great job with your 5 miler! Yes, the conditions may not have been ideal, but they were far better than they were on the Friday before the race (80ºs and sunny!).
Totally agree!! 80+ degrees in July/August is bad enough, but in April!?! 😵💫
Very solid performance. 1:05 out 1:10 coming in. On this course that is some good race management.
Thanks so much!👊🏽
Everyone could participate are already elite. Congrats!
Cheers! Yes! Every runner put in a solid day's work! 💪🏽
WOW what a video. Great ending. Lots of positive vibes!
Cheers, Frank! 👊🏽
Fantastic Marathon! Great Video! Wonderful Performance! Congratulations!
Thank you, Marshall! 👊🏽
Such an accomplishment! happy tears for you!
It was a good day for a great race!
I'm not crying, you're crying 😭😭 I just ran my first Boston and it was as epic as advertised. I hope my :27 BQ gets me back in for next year!
🤣 Huge congratulations to you, Jennifer, and i'm keeping my 🤞🏽for you that your 0:27 is enough to get in again! I plan on going back next year too!
Awesome vids Matt congrats on the race! You the man!
Thanks a lot, Tony!🙌🏽
How was the Elite? How'd they do deeper into the race? Great job!
It was surprising that the Elite disappeared on my foot! I didn;t have to think about them, which is quite ideal! I thought my right heel was a little loose, but that was probably just user error with my lacing. They were definitely comfortable and felt responsive the whole way!
Let’s go Matt! Way to push it at the end 💪 way to stick their mentally.
Thanks, Frank! It sure is a mental game at the end! 👊🏽
Nice job! how did the endorphin elite perform in such heavy rain?
It's funny because I was a little concerned when, in the first mile, some one splashed a puddle over my right shoe and it was instantly soaked! I'm happy to report that I had no issues whatsoever with the shoes being wet! They felt good the whole way!
Thanks for sharing! What a fantastic experience!
It really was a great day! Thanks for watching, Donnie!
Awesome Matt, gave me chills just watching. Well done to all the runners.
Everyone out there put in a solid day's work! Thanks, Paul! 👊🏽
Cool Vlog man, as a Boston native this was a fun video to watch 🤙🏼
Cheers for watching, Jared, and for letting tens of thousands of runners invade your city every year!👊🏽
Matt, its GREAT to see you're still doing your thing and providing exceptional and inspirational content 👍 I'll have to catch up with your videos. I'm back after taking a break from running and hoping to make 2024 my year of hitting my target time of 3:29 for the Manitoba Full. Hope you're well my friend and all the best / Happy New Year.
Welcome back!!! Now you've said it, 2024 will definitely be your year! I ran my first BQ at the Manitoba Marathon! You're getting that 3:29!!! 💪🏽
Bro, I really appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll be running my first marathon in November 2023. You did an awesome job.
Thanks so much, Derwood! Congrats on registering for your first marathon! It's going to be something you never forget! Which race are you doing?
Still following Matt. Awesome job! Your consistency and shear love for running is a big part of what got me into it!
I certainly miss FL but I’m still running while in PA school up here in WV (albeit 10-15 miles per week instead of 20-25😅)
Hope you’re holding things down in SRQ bro 👊🏼
Good to hear you're still at it, even though school has to be a tough workload! Thanks for continuing to follow along! 💪🏽
Super going Matt!! You look sooo cold at the end ❄️
Thanks so much, Tim! Yeah, I was pretty miserable after the race. But it's fun to look back on now i'm warm and comfortable!
Congratulations! 🍾🎈🎉 🏅
Thanks so much, Tina! It was a good day! 💫
OUT-bleeping-STANDING!! What a solid race. Truly inspirational.
It was a great day all around! I'm just happy to have been a part of it! Now that it's over, the miserable weather made it even more memorable!
Congrats!!!! I guess better a bit cold vs. too hot?
Thanks, Mecha! You're 100% right! If would have been a lot worse if it had been hot!
Wow, nicely done Matt! Loved the emotions mate. Well done on an amazing victory ✌️
Cheers, Jimmy! It was a fun day at the office!
@It's Matt B it's got me pumped up! Might need to start working on getting qualified 🤔
was really looking forward to your review
Thanks for being excited for this one! I always have a fun time recording the Boston vids!
@@its_Matt_B_ the excitement jumped off the screen lol
Great marathon Matt, looks like a super hard marathon & cold rainy conditions, all the training has paid off, you made it look easy, the first 35k great stuff ✅👏🦌🏃🏽♂️🌲🥳
Cheers! Yes, it was a bit hard, but would have been far more so had it been hot! Thanks for watching, mate!
Thanks for the inspiring video and the emotional honesty at the end. Been there. This has inspired my training at age 71 for my 8th NYC Marathon coming up. What's helped me stumble through my 41 marathons is "the miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start." Thanks.
Your 8th NYC coming up and 41 marathons total is the inspiration here! I'm glad I could provide a little motivation, but you're the one continually doing the work needed! Keep it up and I'm wishing you a great race on Nov 5th!
Congratulations Matt, brilliant effort!
Thanks so much, Steve!👊🏽
Thank you Matt for sharing your Boston experience! I ran my first Boston yesterday and will relish the weekend for many years to come. As I'm sure you will too. The beauty of sharing suffering with all the other runners and the kindness of the volunteers and spectators was priceless!
2:48 is an impressive time, but especially so at your first Boston! Very well done and good racing, Benjamin! Come back next year and watch your time fall now that you know the course!💪🏽
Great video you did along the way, thank you for doing this.
As someone who tried to qualify but never did and now has a bad knee and doesn't run anymore after 40 years of racing. I'm glad you took me on the sites and sounds of Boston.
Cheers, Bruce! You've really put in the time with 40 years of racing!💪🏽
I didn't realize how loud the race was when I was there. Watching the video made me realize how loud and crazy the crowds were! Thanks for watching, mate!
Such a great capture of the Boston Marathon! Was my third Boston. The marathon after the marathon was absolutely the cold walk to connect with family - wild.
“The marathon after the marathon!” A perfect description! Congrats on a great race, Josh! Will you be back next year?
Awesome video. Thanks for making it. I missed my BQ by a few minutes some years back. If I am able to hit that goal in the near future, I will credit the last few minutes of this video for the extra push.
Thanks, Greg! Good luck going for a BQ! It's not easy, and neither is pushing it at the end of a marathon!
Congratulations ! Great Job !!!!
Thanks, Manuel! 👊🏽
Amazing job man! Thank you for sharing your experience!
Thanks so much, and thank you for watching! 👊🏽
Ahhh thank you so much for sharing your experience! This was my first Boston and it was so so so magical. I will never forget it and like you I was crying at the finish line!!
Huge congrats on your first Boston! It’s a special race, for sure! 🥳
So awesome! You kicked it! Let’s do it again next year!
Let me check my calendar...yeah, I have time! See you then!
@@its_Matt_B_ 🙌
Congrats! And another great video!
Cheers, Velu! 🙌🏽
Hey Matt, what was your average heart rate for the whole race?
It looks like my average HR was 162.
Awesome! I was a volunteer at the first hydration station (mile 2.2) and saw you pass but a little too late to shout. Great job!
Oh wow! All those people going past and your saw me! 🥳
You're so good to volunteer! Thank you! It wasn't an easy day for the volunteers!
@@its_Matt_B_ it was the combo of the singlet and lime green Endorphin Elites :-)
@@teresataildashf 🤣 Yeah, that and my height. I guess I did stand out a bit!
You can feel the energy and the awesome vibes and we're just watching. Must be amazing! Thanks for taking us on your journey, Matt!
It really was an amazing experience! Thanks for coming along, Martin!
Fantastic race, Matt! You said going in that you weren't feeling exceptional but you were well within your expected time range and you did what you had to do to get it in tough conditions. Very inspirational!
Thanks, Eddie! Yes, I was right inline with the predictions, especially Stryd! I'm happy with how the day went (until I finished the race!)
Congrats Matt! I can’t wait to run Boston myself! I’m working hard this year so I can eventually qualify to run it!
Thanks, Jeffrey! Good luck with your training this year! You'll get it!💪🏽
Congrats. Fun video to watch.
I thought the weather was great and I heard there were a record number under 3 hours. I never felt cold until about 5 minutes into the chute. Then I was really cold.
It made me appreciate all the volunteers and spectators who were out on the course even more when I realized it was so cold.
I got soup to warm up and showered and went back to the course and people were still finishing and there were still a lot of spectators cheering them on.
A couple of times I had waves of emotion with all the support during the race and felt it again watching people coming thru to the finish and people still cheering them on hours after the elite finished.
There is no other Marathon that compares.
Congratulations to you, Jim!
What a great day! I felt the same way thinking about the volunteers out there in that weather! It was fine when we were running, but I couldn’t imagine standing outside for 6,7,8 hours(?)!
well done Matt - tony james did it ( UK )
Cheers, David! Yes, Tony did very well! I saw it on Strava and watched his vlog!
Great video. Congrats!
Cheers, Chris! 🙌🏽
Congratulations nice pace :)
Cheers, BT!💪🏽
Congrats Matt! Way to dig deep those last few miles when you were cold and hurting and getting to the finish line!
Thanks so much! The whole race is about the last few miles!👊🏽
Big Congratulations Matt 🙂👍🏃♂️ !
Thanks, Mike!🙌🏽
👏👏👏👏 congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much, Zenzei! 👊🏽
CONGRATULATIONS on your "quick jog into Boston". I've never heard it described that way! 😂 I'm so bummed I missed you just before the top of Heartbreak Hill!! It was SO cold and wet, but such an exciting and special day. I can't imagine how miserable the walk after was, but hopefully the medal and memories totally make up for it!
I'm sorry to have missed you too, but thanks to you and Chris for coming out and supporting all the runners! It's the crowd support that makes it such a special day for me (and I suppose the other the runners). Oh yes, now that I'm warmed up the memory of how miserable I was is fading fast and I can only remember the fun times.
All the emotions!! AMAZING!!
It was, right! I think my emotional response is more tied to the weather! 🤣 When it’s miserable weather everything feels harder, so the emotional reaction is greater!
Thanks for bringing us along.
Thank YOU for watching, Daniel!
💃 🕺 awesome vid Matt! Awesome vid: awesome time! Cheers!!
Thanks, mate! I appreciate the kind words and the support! 🙌🏽
How were the Endorphin Elite??? Dying to hear how they performed.
They were surprisingly good, and by good I mean that I didn't have to think about them. They were comfortable the whole way, even when they were soaked! They don't sound as obnoxious as the Next%2/VF3 when running either! The energy return was good, although it doesn't exactly feel like you're being propelled forward, which I think is a good thing. The shoe works very well and it was a good choice for me!
@@its_Matt_B_ I’ve been tempted to get these. I have the Vaporfly 3 and I didn’t get along with them. I had a hotspot on my heel, lockdown was bad unless I laced up to cut foot circulation lol. Let’s see if I bite the bullet on the EE price tag.
@@JordiRuns Yeah, I'm still testing the VF3 and they're a bit loose in the heel unless I do the lace-lock.
Great race, Matt. I was never able to qualify. Such a historic route.
Thanks, Ed! It really is a historic route and well worth the effort to run it, whether that be by time qualification or getting a charity bib!
I’m watching all Boston videos, as soon as I can.., just in case the powers that be get to doing things
Good thinking! You never know when the B.A.A. will crack the whip!
3:15 Boston Marathon is absolutely amazing…..especially with you videoing & talking to us…. I’m super impressed! Congratulations! You did GREAT! 🏅 🦄 👏 👏 👏 So happy I found your channel 😅
Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words! It really was a fun day out there and i'm definitely not disappointed in my time!👊🏽
wet and cold conditions can definitely affect your race but you still ran a solid one🏃♂ well done Matt! 👍🏼
Cheers, Jon! The wet was what got me! The cold alone felt pretty ideal! 👊🏽
@@its_Matt_B_ I can see that. It’s probably really bad on the down hills.
Congratulations! 3:15 is solid! I did the opposite and wore gloves thinking I'd stuff them into my run belt at some point. Never did, wearing them the entire race. Broke 3 in the ideal conditions. 2:59:15. Already excited about next year for my 8th Boston! You certainly proved that you're Boston strong, and your video recaptured so much of Monday for me!
Huge congrats on your sub 3! Epic racing! I'll be back next year and i'll be taking your lead and wearing gloves!👊🏽
@@its_Matt_B_ you'll no doubt do great! 🙌💪
The weather was obviously not favourable for a marathon to be held on the morning of April 17, 2023 in Boston.
For those who was able to complete the race, it was really a very BIG challenge! Congratulations! ❤👍👍👍
~ Tuesday April 19, 2023 @ 0648 hours
Thanks, Benjamin! The weather sure didn't do us any favors and made it harder than the average marathon!
@@its_Matt_B_ To run outdoor under a cold and wet weather with winds and rain, the muscles naturally contract but were forced to work against our brain's 1st order of mechanism to conserve our lives to continue working hard through the long distance 42km run.
We should not be too hard to always demand ourselves to attain our goal running time. Instead one can wisely stay humble to remain in the game longer.
For one simple reason, we love running and support the sport by participation in marathons.
What an amazing feet! you have immaculate vibes, wishing all the best.
Thank you for your kind words, Sachreet, and thanks for watching!
