The longest I have gone without washing my locs was 2 weeks. In the starting phase, I still washed every 2 weeks. I wore a thin durage in the shower and scrubbed the shampoo through. My parts stayed in place and my scalp was cleansed.
@@KingBril At this point, I have been loc'd for 2+ years. I use daily moisturizing spray from Locsanity or FreeTheRoots. I also oil my scalp every 2-3 days. At the 2 week mark, my locs just feels gross so I wash. I don't keep a style in longer than 2 weeks and I do my own retwist at the beginning of every month.
I’ve been loc’ed for 11 months now first time ever loc’ed and I used to wash my hair and retwist every two weeks and I did deep condition every month in between those times. Gradually, I went longer as time went on but now I can go a month without a retwist and I still deep condition. Now, it’s times when I don’t do the deep conditioning but I definitely do it more often than not to get the roots softer and for it to penetrate through the loc itself. Warmer water to shampoo, deep condition and rinse with cold or cool water to lock the moisture in. So far, no buildup in the locs except the roots from product and the back locs DEFINITELY can get it because of clothing. I use tweezers to gently pull it out. It’s definitely a game changer and it’s good that you putting it out there that it’s NOTHING wrong with deep conditioning! Love your content! ❤
Thank you so much for watching and sharing. Man I need more ladies giving their POVs in the comments because you guys have so much value to give here. i do have a question though, whats your favorite overall product for your locs
@@KingBril So, I use this product called Joie Naturals. I don’t have build up, it’s very lightweight but also keep the locs in tact. A little goes a long way with this product.. I’ve never tried anything else honestly because it seems like most product produce build up over time. But then again, that’s when the clarifying shampoo comes in, which is like tea tree. And I believe you already have that, right.??! Lol. Thanks for the compliment on saying that us women give so much value..! That’s sweet 🤓
I'm almost two years loc'd. I wash at least three/four times a week, I hate not feeeling clean, and I don't moisturize at all. My scalp gets oiled once every three months, when I get a retwist. My locs look great!
Washing is fine within the first month of locs, I wash mines weekly, but unraveling is apart of the process, even when those locs unravel at the root it's still locking, no need to be soo worried about unravel, as long as that part is still present, it's fine. Above all else keep your scalp clean. Now deep conditioning... I wouldn't recommend it? It's just going to lead to buildup (pretty sure that's what that is at 1:50, your hair basically becomes a sponge when they are locs, and that deep conditioner just never breaks down) There are better ways to condition without using deep conditioner build up free. Aloe vera or herbal rinses, something that's going to break down within the shaft of the loc (there is even other black owned brands that offer buildup free conditioning products like Freetheroots and House of Isis). Just trying to offer some advice for some possible issues that might come up in the journey brother. (Btw never went more than a month without washing my hair, well more like a little less than that, don't know how people go longer than that)
i appreciate the wisdom. Just a little background, this video is from around November. It It was my first time ever deep conditioning my locs. So any build up wasnt the DC cause i didnt put that in til after. Also the DC is use isnt as thick as most other ones on market. and lastly i absolutely focus the DC on my the unlocked portion more than the loc to prevent build up. But i do wanna look into your aloe vera recommendation. I been hearing free the root alot in loc conversation, i give them a look
@@KingBril oh gotcha maybe the residue was probably gel they used to retwist your hair that didn't break down properly, regarding the Aloe Vera, you can either just get 100% aloe gel that's already strained or get the plant and strain it yourself (I prefer this way) but you know the gel is convenient, after you intially wash your hair with shampoo, you massage the aloe in your hair and leave it in for 30 to 40 minutes then rinse it out
Much love man! You’re one of the people who really solidified my curly hair journey over the last few years so I appreciate you a lot man! Thank you for what you do! I’m tryna grow a beard now and I got patches that my genetics just don’t seem to rock with. Minoxidil hasn’t worked, and I even used wild hair growth oil but no dice. Any suggestions? Thanks again!
at this point, almost 9years down with high top locs, the longest i go without washing is like a month and a half, that’s with a style in. when the style is out i wash every other wednesday
Ive had my locs since October. I wash em weekly. Only cause of work and the gym. But when needed ill just wear a mesh durag in the shower and add a cowash to a spray bottle during the week. Just focus on clearing my scalp from excess build up
Wassup King, the only deep conditioner to use is Rich Royal Hydration. Plus the peppermint shampoo and top it all off with majestic mint oil. All these products and all the rest are the goat 🐐
My first time growing dreadlocks, i used to spend nearly a month without washing, but always made sure i basically washed my hair 3 times over. Only problem was my hair didnt stay looking neat. Im restarting my journey thou, currently growing out my hair usung cornrows
@@KingBril broooo yes. Idk how you scrubbed tf out yo head and they didn’t even atleast get puffy LMAO. I’d need to palm roll and get a fresh retwist if I did that
I washed mine the first month idk who lied. Said you have to go months with dirty scalp. I had two strand washing met it Mat together faster. I have 4a hair the front is straight and wavy. Took 7-8 months to lock
Yo I remember u used to have a lot of cornrow videos if i kept cornrows in for a month should i wash them? Also, is it ok to do cornrows for a whole year if u retwist every month and deep condition
I just cut my dreads after 9 years and im tryna get braids. So do i wash with hot water and rinse with cold water with shampoo and conditioner or just with deep conditioner i have type 4 low porosity
you can use the warm water with shampoo and the rinse and to put the deep conditioner in. then use cold to rinse the excess conditioner out. Just remember hot water its gone help rinse everything out, cold water only rinses the excess out
I must say, you look good in those locs King Bril 🔥💯.
preciate you my guy

What setting do you use on your blow dryer after putting in the deep conditioner? I didn't hear you referencing that. Thanks
King Bril why don't u try going back to a Goate??

How does washing your locs change for someone who is like 5 months in to their journey ?
Aye Bril how long have you had your starter locs?
Where can I get that thing you used with the blow dryer
I washed with warm water and I went to a cold but I don't have starter locs I've had locs for over a year
do you feel like yours fully locked?
Can u check and see if my wash day routine is correct
