I love the Implication that disabled people are only worthy of respect if they've saved your or someone else's life. Like I guess I'm not worthy of respect because I've got a genetic condition and didn't push my sister out of traffic.

I have autism, severe depression, and anxiety and I'd be pissed at my sister if she treated me like this. I hate that the brother is so forgiving. like just because someone didn't do you a personal favor doesn't mean you get to not show them basic human decency and it's alright to be angry, even if they apologize.

Excellent point. Every person is deserving of respect. A person's actions determine whether I have more or less respect for them. The cause of someone's disability doesn't dictate how much respect I give them. Their being another human being dictates that they are worthy of respect.

Making disabilities into a spectacle in which its meaning is to be "cured" or the source of inspiration is such a common thing. It's genuinely so horrible, as so many people have disabilities that can't be cured, and many of us don't want to be inspirational. It just creates more stereotypes and fetishization of disability and it makes our lives harder.

Reminds me of a teacher if mine where she made us watch a romantic(?) movie where the love interest is a wheelchair user. It would've been great if the whole story wasn't centered around him suffering and hating his life for being disabled.
She wanted us to be more "sensitive" but asked us questions like "How would you feel if you passed a blind person on the street?"
She was already disgusting to me, but at that point I couldn't take it, as my mother is blind, and I know how shitty she feels when she is othered. Especially after some girl went into great detail on how she would pity the blind person, because "how can they even live like that?".

@@judit5173 I’ve been searching for disability awareness lessons for elementary and middle grades and all of them are so clearly predicated on the assumption that every kid in the room and their families and friends are able bodied and neurotypical. Literally recommendations for things like your teacher did, or bringing in a wheelchair and having students use it to see how hard it is to navigate. It’s so bad and so harmful, and I’m really sorry you had that experience at school.

I'm a fellow disabled person and in high school, after all three of my surgeries, I did have to use crutches while walking on both legs in order to reduce the weight on my reconstructed ankle(s). This is the casting description. “12 to 18 years old, male or female. Athletic. Has a prosthetic leg. To accurately and respectfully portray this community, we are seeking actors with a limb difference. Alex is hard working, self sufficient and determined to follow his/her dream of professionally playing soccer. After excelling at soccer tryouts, Alex's father is told that Alex can't be on the team due to their crutches being a safety hazard on the field. With perseverance and support from friends and family, Alex is able to follow their passion. LEAD.”

Even if it didn't heal correctly, he'd likely have a limp, probably caused by legs that aren't quite the same length. The premise of the video is that this incident happened many years before, so by this time it would have healed. The actual time needed for the bones to heal would be a while.
He'd likely need surgery, possibly multiple, and he'd need a cast for a while, and weeks (if not months) of physical therapy, but he would heal. Even if he didn't have adequate care (possible surgery, proper cast, rest, etc), the bones would heal, they would likely heal incorrectly and the leg would be very prone to injury later, but he'd still be able to use his leg (this or a bad surgery would cause limping later in life maybe).
_No doctor would look at that x-ray alone and say it's hopeless._

Also, just so we're all clear, none of the child actors involved in this video deserve hate. The younger ones are too young to know better, and the older ones have all been involved with DM for a long time, they don't realize how fucked up this shit is. Their parents, DM, the adult actors, and the whole production crew deserve all of the hate.

I hate when disabled people are treated as inspirations because all it does is inspire abled people to say "if they can do that, so can you." I'm literally DISabled, my body has limitations other people don't have to suffer, and there is absolutely nothing beneficial about trying to adapt to abled people's standards. It sucks how normalised ableism is, how badly people want us to be "cured", how obviously there's something missing from our lives just because we don't live like they do. We're not inherently broken or wrong because we're different and we're not just here to be inspiration porn.

I'm really glad to see more people get serious about pointing out the actual toxicity and harm in Dhar Mann's videos. Dude barely tries at all, and everyone except people who are actually impacted by the subjects he butchers seems to just brush it off as "light cringe with good-intentions." (And sometimes even people who *are* impacted! Somehow!)
I think one of the grossest things to me is that, like, every character who's victimized in Dhar Mann videos seems to be a meek, soft-spoken, absolute saint of a human being to the point of self-detriment. I feel like it perpetuates this Perfect Victim idea- the concept that someone who's being mistreated, oppressed, bullied, abused, etc. has to be some morally pure do-no-wrong show-no-anger entity to be worthy of compassion and sympathy. It's disgusting, and not usually realistic. Sure, some people have a "fawn" response as a defense mechanism but that's clearly not what Dhar Mann is portraying, this dude doesn't care nearly enough about any sort of nuance.
Obviously it's even worse here because of the really nonsensical "he actually saved ur life but u knew nothing about that" thing

  • @baddieMario77
    @baddieMario77 Рік тому +14

Honestly i think this is the dhar mann video that broke the camels back. Its not necessarily this specific plot, its just that im so sick of seeing unrealistically noble and humble hero characters. Basically every single dhar mann video is about an incredibly amazing and kind fantastic human being who is treated like crap by the worlds most evil villain, and then in the end the villain realizes that the hero was actually suffering so much or had a really sad backstory but they were still being a great person anyway. Its like, the hero is always a martyr? Oh my god i just realized that. The hero is always a martyr! And thats annoying to see because its not a noble way to be at all, it is essentially a “victim mindset” whether its intentional or not. Like what message is he trying to send? That its good to suffer for the good of everyone else even if its harming you? And again im not talking about this specific dhar mann video, but it still applies here because the hero in these stories always allows for everyone to treat them terribly, they never speak up or try to get help from anyone else, they just suffer until the end of the story when the villain has an uncharacteristic change of heart and realizes all the pain and suffering the hero has been silently dealing with. Its basically a martyrs fantasy, that in the end everyone will see the suffering they have endured because they are just such a pure and kind person. It makes me wonder if dhar mann has a martyr complex or if martyr characters are just easier to write

Hey Jake, I have had chronic pain for 3 years and unfortunately have yet to be diagnosed or given any real reason why I can hardly get through the day. I suspect fibromyalgia if you’re familiar, but since it’s such a hard thing to diagnose and does little to help with treatment to get a diagnosis, no doctor has been able to give me that clarity. i’ve been a stay at home mom because it’s so hard for me to go through schooling and/or work in a workplace. But unfortunately, my husband just lost his job and our future is unclear. I’m probably going to have to go back to work because I can’t prove my invisible illness is worthy of disability compensation. Is it possible I can qualify as a beneficiary from the never stop fund? Just seeing someone disabled isn't enough reason to feel bad about what they have to go through? Or is it our twisted sense of "everything is deserved" as we try to justify that someone suffering and literally having way worse experience than anyone else, is most definitely their fault, because why else would they be punished so bad, they must've done something to deserve it.

I broke both my legs late last year, and I had to have surgery on one, and the other healed on its own. I was able to walk just fine at the beginning of this summer, which was around seven months after the accident. So yes, bones heal. And in complicated cases like with mine, they fix it with surgery. In addition, injuries like that in children, are much easier to fix than in adults, because their bones have still not fully formed and heal more easily. In my case, they had to put in metal plates and screws that will stay in there for the rest of my life because of my age.
So in what world does a kid who broke his leg have to walk on crutches *years* after the fact?? Crutches are not a permanent solution, what? 🤦‍♀️ Dhar Mann is clearly woefully misinformed on the subject of disability. These videos aren't helping anyone.

I had a friend who used to love watching Dharman because he ‘taught people to be good and reminded him that the world isn’t a bad place’.
It later turned out he was grooming a 13 year old kid and would say milked my disability so people would have to do things for me. He would also threaten to kill himself whenever he got caught in a lie.
I don’t hate Dharman just because of this one person, but it adds to the list of reasons. Actually, a lot of my ‘friends’ used my disability to insult me, like that I’m a crippled bitch and how I play a victim when I don’t even talk about it.
Yeah, the existence of Dharman sure makes people be better… or I suck at choosing friends.

this is a great video. i would just like to point out to people who might read this comment that a broken bone can turn into a longterm disability.
i had broken my leg skateboarding in summer 2020, i was super healthy, my only signs of chronic illness were chronic fatigue and migraines. the 2 bones in my calf broke in kind of a spiral pattern and the surgeon told me that it would already be a really hard break to heal. after my surgery, he was completely negligent with follow ups. he stopped scheduling me appointments when i got my cast off and he refused to refer me to physiotherapy or any other doctors. my scar has also split open twice and when i was at the hospital last year getting an x-ray for a possibly broken foot, one of the nurses commented on my leg surgery not being good. where i live there is a massive healthcare crisis where we don't have enough doctors, so i haven't been able to get into any doctors since.
i'm still a parttime crutch user, and the only reason i'm not full time is because i've developed chronic pain all over my body, but especially in my wrists and shoulders, so sometimes it's less painful to use my leg unassisted than to put any weight on my arms. i suspect fibro because my mom has been diagnosed with it and she says it lines up (but because of the healthcare crisis i can't know for sure). fibromyalgia can be triggered to onset by injury as well.
not making this comment to bash on jake in any way! i love these videos. i would just like people to be aware that if someone broke a bone and is still claiming to be disabled years later, or is still using mobility aids years later, please don't assume they're lying. being newly disabled is already a lot to cope with, please don't add to peoples pain by outcasting them socially as well.
