I prefer the subscription model, myself. It allows steady revenue for the devs and no nonsense in game for players. That is my 2 cents. Hope full release is subscription based.
Can definitely understand that. The frugal part of me wants upfront cost for game & updates because it ends up being cheaper in the long-run. Paying $15/month (or whatever it would be) gets expensive, especially in an age where everything is sub-based. That being said, sub-based seems more reliable income for the game itself and I’d rather the game be as healthy as possible. It will be interesting to see which direction they go with payments at full release.
If there's a sub, there should be absolutely no in-game shop utilizing real money OR currency purchased with real money. Period. If there's just an upfront cost and they want to add a cosmetics shop to boost their ability to continue development of the game, fine, I don't ever have to buy anything and it doesn't impact my gameplay to see someone else with a pretty jacket. If there's an upfront cost there should not be a sub. Anyone who paid upfront should have their account grandfathered in if they decide to start doing sub-based instead.
I agree. Live service games need to have a continual influx of money to keep the game going, servers running, etc. Only two ways to really do that, subscription model and/or in-game shop (cosmetics, P2W, QoL items). Virtually every subscription based model has flourished while the latter tends to collapse because they resort to selling items. Yes the economy is terrible now and the last thing people need is another suscription fee, however, you are helping pay these dev's salaries and to keep them motivated to churn out good content. Sadly, I pledged to this game back in 2018 and I honestly don't even care either way anymore. Since I "paid" for it already, I'm obviously going to play. I'm just not going to get emotionally attached to it because that died years ago but we'll see.
Thank you! Finally finding time to give the channel some regular attention. :) Definitely plan to continue covering Pantheon as well as an assortment of whatever catches my eye…mostly ARPGs, MMOs, and some indies. 😊
Definitely don’t count it out! Feel free to join a stream, ask questions, and see what you think. I think as soon as all the races are in the game at EA launch it will look SO much better too! The lack of variety in the characters I thinks impacts the way the game looks more than people realize.
Aside from the pricing change I am worried about how hard the game will be. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a challenge, but if I what to play solo from time to time I am worried I won't be able to if I feel the urge to play but not in the mood to group.
100% valid perspective: for the times you want to solo, that’s when you focus on questing or your profession! Crafting is one of the hearts of this game because each player will have to specialize in 1 or 2 professions. You can then use those items to sell or trade with others. So much of crafting requires leveling up skills, gathering, etc and ends up being perfect for the solo, chill sessions. Grouping is mainly required for meaningful XP gaining past a certain level, adventuring into new areas, or dungeons/raids.
This was a fantastic video. As a Pledge since 2020 and a 25yr veteran of EQ/WOW, I can definitely say I love the game. There are some glaring issues that need to be adressed (and will be in due time). That being said, I share your optimism for all the same reasons. I look forward to more of your Pantheon content.
I've not seen your channel before, and really liked this coverage of the Pantheon EA announcement. Like your tone, style, demeanor and will check out your other videos as well.
Thank you! I’m just getting the channel up and going but plan to have a mix of Pantheon coverage, general game opinions, and playthroughs of single-player games. 😊
Busy time over here-getting ready to move across the country so unfortunately nothing else until after the game launches. Glad you like the videos though!
gonna be a great game. people today want old school MMOs, and they want hard difficulty. idk if it will be the Dark Souls of MMOs, but if it gets close it will bring in a lot of hardcore gamers.
That’s actually a great way to describe Pantheon-it’s not intended for you to win by “just winging it”. I have never played a game where I got absolutely STOMPED by the creatures in the newbie starting area, but that’s exactly what happened to me when I first loaded in!
I dunno if its "HARD" considering you can level up to their max level in a couple of days. Leaves no end game cuz there is also only 6 zones currently.
I'm afraid this game will suffer through the same problems as Embers Adrift. The initial wave of fans of this type of game that get in and journey through together will have a great time. After that it'll be a slow trickle of new players coming in who cannot do the group content because there aren't enough low-level players. Unless they are carried by high level players which can ruin the experience for many. So retention of new players will be poor. This is a common problem for MMORPGs, but it hurts the ones which require groups even more.
That’s a good point and I hope that isn’t the case. It will take consistent marketing to keep new eyes on the game (as well as word of mouth from current players). This game isn’t made for everybody so reaching the people who will love it is key.
Whilst longer term this is indeed something that could be an issue, in the short term I doubt it will be. In seasons this year whilst the average level has generally increased, there I has usually been a decent spread from low to high. People play alts etc. Longer term there is allot of discussion around mentoring / buddy systems which could mean artificial level inflation or reduction to encourage grouping when level gaps emerge.
So from what I understand if one has either pledged or bought the game in EA, they'll still have full and permanent access to the "base game" once 1.0 lands? the possibility of a monthly sub or whatever model they choose to go with would only apply for content released _after_ 1.0?
Correct. Pledging or purchasing the game in EA essentially gives you a digital copy of the game. There will be NO subscription fees during EA for anybody. Once 1.0 releases, IF they decide on a subscription model, that’s when those will come in to play.
Right now, it's in alpha testing so be patient with it. Not everything is finished polished product. That will come after they work the kinks out of the mechanics. There is an old saying in the development community. "Make it work, then make it pretty".
Yes! I also thing perceptions will change enormously when everybody isn’t running around as exact, human clones in extremely similar armor sets. Adding visual variety will be hugeeee.
Really loved your passion in this video for the game. Wanted to jump into the game more a few months back but than certain life events happened that I had to focus on instead. Now i'm more settled again but on the fence of trying some the play sessions or waiting til EA.
If you have the spare change, you can obviously get early play time by pledging while the packages are still available. But at this point there may be value in waiting until EA when way more content will be available. And it’s right around the corner! Would love to welcome you to Terminus!
@@xlotux Oh I already had pledged a couple years ago just when they first started the new test sessions kept mixing up what weeks Champions could get on so only ever really got to try for a few hours here and there. Thanks for the reply!
Personally, i'm cautiously optimistic. The early access might bring more attention and players to the game, which in turn generates more income fore the devs. I don't agree with the general opinion about graphics being bad though. I agree the animations look clunky and i hope the devs polish these over time. On the other hand, i'm personally not a graphics maniac. For me gameplay always takes first place 🙂
Absolutely! The gameplay is there and I think the criticisms of the graphics are only partially fair. I think people are missing the perspective that this graphic choice will last a LONG time before they ever feel old. They have a classic feel. Now the animations are a work in progress and need fixing; the wizard lighting bolt got a re-work and it looks AWESOME!!
I have such love for classic EQ I really want to give this game a shot just to show support for the idea and concept of an old school mmorpg in todays gaming sphere
Hey thanks for making this video. I’ve been following pantheon for years, but after they announced early access, decided to pledge and just started playing. Totally agree with everything you’ve outlined here. It’s pretty rough around the edges but has so much potential, and still super fun in the state that it’s in now. Hoping for lots more improvements with the early access patch. Glad the game is attracting more content creators that aren’t just 50 year old EverQuest dudes too 😂
I am much more likely to purchase this game when it goes to early access. Ive watched the games progress through your streams and thought it looked good, but didn't like the access, but with early access it will be a lot more tempting to play it myself.
I think waiting for Early Access is actually the right option for the majority of people. Servers will be open 24/7 for everybody when the game releases into EA, which gives players more value and flexibility. Can’t wait to welcome you to Terminus!! I know you’re somebody who appreciates teaching and strategy in gameplay and this game needs people like you!
Great Video the community needs your fresh eyes to bring balance for all us old sometimes jaded types. Keep up the great work. Don't let the haters get you down. Draq
Wow, this was a great take. I've been along for the ride since 2014 and I couldn't be prouder of the team for persevering through all the ebbs and flows of dev life. Also excited I found this channel - great content and you definitely earned a sub. Cheers! 🎉
Hey thanks!! 🎉🎉 Maybe I’m an optimist but I have nothing but high hopes for the game. From my perspective, the game is awesome and will continue to have great content, so everything rests on the marketing team to get the word out there.
@@xlotux Amen to that - I streamed 15 episodes of my experience and as a casual player that doesn't always have time to group, I had a blast. Honestly, I haven't had this much fun in an MMORPG since EverQuest. Just talking about it makes me want to jump back into Terminus!!
I'd like to hear more about the tactical aspect you mentioned. When you said everyone has a role to play, how does this go beyond the old "holy trinity"?
That might make for a great video. So you do need your tank, healer, DPS, and crowd control, minimum to handle the group mobs or dungeon areas. You can group up to 6 so the last members are your choice. I’ve found you can make a “random” group work depending on levels…a high level tank can make up for lack of DPS if you have strong healers, etc. The really fun stuff happens when we talk about enemy dispositions in the game AND techniques!
Some abilities will put the enemies into different states that will change the way other players’ abilities affect them, like adding a knock-down, extra damage, or other status effect. A hypothetical example: a shaman casts a spell that causes the mob to be ‘wind-swept’ or off-balance and a warrior follows up with a shield slam that knocks it down for 2 seconds. That’s just one way they’re encouraging group interaction and tactics.
I'm excited with a dash of trepidation I miss the old school mmo days. Days of everquest and of ffxi but it makes me worried because of where I'm at in my life and being solo. That said I'm excited that theres a game like this coming out. I am excited for launch and seeing necromancer. I am super excited too in having enchanter and being able to play support again. I hope Brad is looking down and being proud of this finally coming out and i hope they followed his vision after he passed. I'll check it out, i just hope as someone who misses the old school days but has new school lifestyle with a child and adulting to do i hope there is a place for me here.
I sure hope they have a solo path because many people, myself included often have little time to play. Games that do not allow me to play and accomplish for just an hour or two without waiting to find people to play with, generally goes to the wayside very quickly. Grouping is great, but not everyone wants to group all the time. That Everquest way of looking at things died a long time ago. To accomplish the bigger aspects of the game should be grouped or raided, but not day to day grinding.
I definitely understand where you’re coming from here. The game does offer ways to play solo for shorter game sessions-nearly all the quests I’ve accomplished so far you can do solo OR focus on leveling up your professional skills (which is something that was barely touched on in this video). The game’s economy rests largely on crafting and solo playtime is the best time to craft, gather supplies, sell, and trade with others. Group play is almost mandatory past a certain level to meaningfully XP gain, but there is plenty to do for solo players as well. I’m sure others can chime in more with their experience & understanding as well, but my understanding is they are taking the best from EQ and balancing it more for the modern player. 😊
WoW is super solo-friendly…but is also super hand-holdy and gives you XP faster than you can remember what level you are! I can understand wanting to have a slower paced, true grind but still don’t necessarily have time to always group up.
im glad they went back to original idea, for a while there i was worried and didn't like the path they were going on. Exited to play this.. it should have the difficulty lvl i want~!
IMO they’ve really nailed the idea that the world is dangerous but with the right strategy, you can experience true victory! What many modern games have done is watered down the “wins” by making them so easy and frequent. It’s like giving a kid a cookie every day…pretty soon they just don’t appreciate it. Pantheon makes you excited to killed a rat. 😂😅
They did compromise.. which saddened me.. but the early alpha was still fun.. also monthly sub is the only way this game will go long term.. and only option honestly
I see this sentiment coming up, and I think nwhat people mean is some things have changed like the graphic style. Having said that, that isn't what Joppa was talking about. He said VR hasn't compromised on the "core tenets," which is a specific list of 20 items that are on the website. They are specific things like content is king and players will influence the game economy. None of the tenets are about graphics, at least directly. The video should have explained this better or shown a link to the page listing them out, so people don't keep getting confused.
I think it will release and it is exactly the game I want. I'm just not sure it will be popular enough. I dont think there is enough people who will play it and it needs a LOT of players or it wont work. MMO's are constantly dying and are lasting as little as a few months. I hope people play it and stick with it.
I would suggest definitely picking it up at EA then! If it gives you hope, right now the servers are open for everybody who has pledged (VIP, champion, and supporter) and the servers are jam packed! I actually expect next season to be even busier because the necromancer class will be available for testing. It’s easy to find groups, the chatter is nonstop in the Discord…seriously from all things I can see everything seems healthy. Obviously the true test will be sustained health through EA and beyond but I’m excited. I think their marketing strategy needs to be on-point to reach as many people as possible, but people are hooked as soon as they are actually in-game.
@@xlotux I'm already a champion pledge but it was long ago so any money I donated is long gone and it does feel like they are in financial trouble so they need EA to give them income. They need a good monetization method and fast. The thing I fear is because it has taken so long that money is long gone and if EA doesnt boost funds then they will either shut down due to lack of funding or release with very little available.
@@adamkinne6467 it’s addicting . This game gives your the eq feels but stronger and waaaay more engaging in combat . Super fun game and hoping for the best for this game hopefully it’s addicting enough !
The group play looks like ffxi which has one of the best combat systems ever, this may look simple to some but probably has way more depth in it combared to rotational tab target
The strategy behind what’s happening in combat is really hard to show or explain but it’s there. Thats what got me hooked. Every group feels different because the classes play so differently together. Watching your team work hard when things go wrong is one of the ways to really test the experience of your group. And learning how everybody enjoying the same class can somehow use the class slightly differently leads to so many good discussions! They’ve done a great job with care and balance and will continue to tweak with all the classes and itemization as time goes on.
@xlotux yeah im excited for it, it seems inspired by ffxi as well, ffxi every job(class) feels different and the game becomes more tactical in the higher level more dangerous content, that's why I said you should try it out while you wait for this to come out, it'll give you an idea of what you're in for, i hold ffxi as the best MMORPG of all time, but who knows maybe pantheon will be that next game for me
Lots of the models are still just stand-ins. If you hop in, focus on the landscapes, textures, and lighting-those things have been custom made! They aren’t unreal engine but I do think they are evergreen and will last for awhile without feeling outdated.
Its not gonna be "fixed" because people dont pledge enough for it to be fixed without there being a p2w shop. So take the graphics as it is or have p2w shop. No other choice. To me the graphics is fine. I liked the old one more but thats better than not having it release
I cant imagine there is a worse looking game that has released in the last 10yrs. It looks like the original EQ. I was excited about this game for a couple years when it was first announced, its hard to believe the game they first set out to make turned into this turd. I hadnt checked in on the game for a few years, as I really assumed it was never going to come out. My jaw hit the ground when I saw what it turned into. The game play looks worse than the graphics.
Visionary Realms just did a live stream yesterday on Twitch showing off Halnir Cave if you want to check out the recording. I think you’ll be surprised how good it looks! So many comments I saw were “wow, the game has come such a long way”.
All sounds pretty good, in terms of old school MMO vibe, but why does it look like it was made in 2004? Surely it could be made in UE5 or something and keep everything else the same...
I thought the same thing when I first saw Pantheon but it’s a different experience playing it. I know that sounds lame but it’s just the truth. The textures, details, and lighting in the game are very well done. Lots of the creatures are still just models as well (including the human race, which is the only playable race right now). Overall I think they did a great job going with graphics that have a classic feel and over the next decade won’t ever feel “old”.
In my eyes, Pantheon died with Brad McQuaid. Once Brad passed away, the game seems to have gone through several overhauls, art style included. At this point it's just a game, made by Joppa, that took on the Pantheon name.
@@MYLITTLENINJA757 Why? They kept his vision alive. Pantheon today is a game that Brad would be proud of. The graphics got different, because with their small team they could not pull of HD realistic graphics and optimize this enough. Nothing to do with vision, that decision was just out of necessity. Either go the new road or drop it all together. Everything else is very close in style to what Brad originally envisioned.
This is why facts and sincere knowledge of Pantheon's history are so vitally important and not just folks making problematic and superficial comments. When Pantheon was first announced, 2014, the only game engine available to Indie developers that was free and capable of making a game of this size and scope was Unity. It had a well established Asset store and support. There was no "Marketplace" for Unreal until the end of 2014. Even then, it was very sparse. I was there and viewed it. QUOTE "Unity was ‘no up front cost’ “free” earlier than Unreal. So if you had zero money and wanted a 3D engine with a built-in editor, it was the default choice for a while." --END QUOTE Pantheon had no upfront money and a failed Kickstarter (something that is essential when discussing Pantheon, but most 'critics' never, sincerely, take into account) As a result, they have never had enough money to properly fund the development of this MMO, and it has been an uphill battle. Switching over to Unreal, making more realistic graphics or any of the other suggestions folks love to throw out there is profoundly cost prohibitive to a small indie studio. Which is why they switched the graphic style. I could say a lot more, but one can check out Bazgrim's old video on the history of Pantheon and for clarification.
If the marketing team can make smart moves, I’m confident the game will last. It’s not for everybody, but if the right people find it, it’s the game they’ve been wanting and haven’t gotten!
@@xlotux Just imagine the massive, immersive world that Pantheon is probably going to provide - it's going to make WoW look like a theme park ride. This game is all about challenging content, deep character customization, and a meaningful adventure that stays true to the RPG roots of MMOs. No more hand-holding and simplified systems. Look… Pantheon is bringing back the glory days when players had to work together and strategize to overcome obstacles…. And let's not forget the graphics - Pantheon's visuals are going to blow WoW out of the water. The team has spared no expense in creating beautiful landscapes and detailed characters that will transport players to a fantastical world. Meanwhile, WoW's cartoonish aesthetic is starting to look tired and uninspired.
@@flouserschirdoh I’m with you! I think people think we are being too optimistic but I think if people hear about this game and have a chance to try it out, they will stay. Thats the key.
This would have been fine 10 years ago. Mobile gaming and the sense of ME FIRST generation. a game about cooperation wont fly. When Brad died so did Pantheon
Unfortunately money requires math and the benefit of the doubt its sub only(please) and at 10$ a month. Just math how many concurrent players that requires to just pay jappa and one person to run the server...... He intentionally leaves it completely open. I still think they are doing the best option if the buy in entry is low. Buy the subscribers now cheap then they can come back at any time for just a month and see how its progressed.
Good point-I’ve never done the math on how many players would pay even a single employee. I don’t if anybody would bat an eye at $10/month, that’s extremely reasonable.
10$ a month isnt appropriate for 2024. a sub only should be atleast 15-18$ but people I know people who cant do math will throw hands at that price. so sadly they cant do it right no matter what they do
@@pgrow420I genuinely believe they are 1) better experienced in person; the lighting and textures/details are way more present than you get with 2 second b-roll footage 2) they have an overall classic/timeless look that will stand the text of time-they will never feel like unreal engine 17, but they will also never feel old 2) what will continue to improve that isn’t currently in game are all the race models, race armor, and lots of the enemies are currently placeholder models. I totally hear your perspective and I counter that it will look drastically better soon AND it’s currently not as awful as people want to say. :)
My wife and I are playing the game. While I love EQ 1 and I want this game to be based off of it; unfortunately, this game is more like a copy/paste of EQ 1 with a slightly different UI and slightly better graphics. It just feels lazy for 10 years worth of "work."
Honestly it sets the bar high. It makes sense why people still regularly play EQ-there’s just nothing else brave enough to make a slower-paced, grindy, group game.
~ I will never PUT money UP front on unfinished products. I learn my lesson MANY times. I will wait for it to come out and watch the reactions and gameplay of others that will do this. This way i can kinda get a visual test drive of a FINISHED product. So not thanks. Also the game graphics look so out dated. Not that i care about that the most, but still. Also the combat effects are kinda lackluster. Good luck on who ever whats to risk it. I refuse. Have a great day. ~
The devs messed this game up badly. They stripped the graphics back to look like it was done in RPG maker the original. The game has no character and honestly looks and plays worse than Everquest to date. Stating you want people to pay $60-???? For a game that comes with 6 zones... isn't halfway finished. Has been in production for years. It's a cash grab.
I think for a game being this playable and immersive, putting it in EA for all to enjoy while development continues is definitely the right move. The 6 zones are MASSIVE.
@xlotux I honestly was looking forward to the game even a few years ago because of the graphics and direction. Now it looks from the gameplay I have seen more geared towards a real-life simulation game vs. a really immersive role-playing type game. The graphics before they were changed even the zones and characters added to that role-playing experience. Now it just looks like a bunch of generic characters from Runescape except more generic than Runescape.
@@JJ-dm3ltno pressure but I’ll be streaming all next week if you wanted to pop in and get a better feel for how it plays and looks with all the changes. It’s easier to tell live vs videos with a bunch of random clips pieces together. I can tell you wanted to like it and are disappointed with direction so just another option. Either way, thanks for the discussion!
I was interested in Pax Dei from afar, I think their blunder was lack of content at Early Access…everybody was just running around in their rags in a land grab 😂😅.
@@xlotuxThe 1st trailer they ran was false advertising. That's where all my hype was until I realized watching people stream it was an extremely empty subpar game.
The price for Early Access hasn’t been set yet, but I would say it’s a safe guess for it to be less than $50 and no subscriptions for all of Early Access. EA will be (again a guess, but a safe one) a year or more, and the game is extremely fun and playable right now with tons of content at EA launch. I definitely think it’s, at minimum, a $40 game easy. Now Star Wars Outlaws at $100+? That’s a money grab. 😂😅
Yeah im not sure how much I want to pledge but i need to at this point. I played eq beta and if this game is a sucessor to that then I need to get on board.
@@xlotux Ah okay, I misunderstood. I was reading the pledges and it said unlimited access was $750. Anyhting over the price of a full game never seems worth it to me. I am looking forward to this, though.
@@Johnggernautyep at this point paying for those higher-tier pledges doesn’t have quite the same value as they did when you had more time to play and help with testing. At this point waiting for Early Access seems the right move for most people.
I think the trailer very clearly stated what their intent was behind calling it early access, and I think it’s smart. There will be a huge chunk of very-playable, fun content, so it seems reasonable to open it to a wider audience to increase chatter. Just my perspective though.
@@xlotux indeed it did say that, but how many casual gamers ( which is who they need to draw in for this to succeed) are going to realize what it means and then they figure out this game has been in development for over a decade?
@@xlotux ~ Ironically, this game Brad McQuaid, was the CEO(passed away in 2019) created Everquest and it was influenced by Dungeon & Dragons (D&D). Free History tip. In fact most all games were influenced with or by concepts from D&D. ~
This is so bad. I was so excited when this first started out. Looked great, played great. Then reality hit. Looking at it now it's just night and day. Graphics look like it's pre-EQ2. The animations look like they were done by a teenager learning how to do animation. I hope it turns around someday, but no. I've got better things to spend money on.
Keep in mind the characters are still models as well as a large majority of the enemies. If you look at the environment, you get a better sense for the lighting, textures, and saturation actually built for the game. I don’t think they are the “greatest” graphics I’ve ever seen however, I do think it’s smart because they feel very evergreen-somebody could play this 15 years down the road and they wouldn’t feel outdated.
I wasn’t a fan of how the game looked when I first saw it, but in-game is wildly different. I think the art design has an evergreen feel that won’t feel outdated should the game last as long as I hope. 😊
Its an Old school look for Old school players. There's a Million Very Pretty but shallow Korean MMO out there for you if that what you want. I suggest Throne and Liberty if that what you want.
Ah, Pantheon, the MMO for old farts who think they’re reliving their glory days-except there’s zero glory to be found. Let’s be real: this game isn’t difficult, it’s just a retirement home for washed-up players who want to pretend they’re hardcore. You’ve got a bunch of boomers waddling around, thinking they’re legends because they spent 45 minutes clicking auto-attack and calling it "skill." It’s like they're patting themselves on the back for accomplishing... nothing. The worst part? These players act like they’re tactical geniuses because they manage to avoid dying to mobs that a trained hamster could outsmart. Newsflash: taking forever to kill a trash mob while managing to not faceplant into your keyboard doesn’t make you elite-it just means you’re as slow in the game as you are in life. And of course, they’ll be in the forums preaching about how “modern games are too easy,” like they’re God’s gift to MMOs, when really, they're just struggling with mechanics that haven’t changed since their last LAN party. Pantheon is basically a digital nursing home where these players gather to feel relevant again. But in reality? They're not good at the game. They're not good at anything in life. It’s like they’re trying to escape the fact that they’ve never been able to achieve anything outside their keyboard, so they cling to this dumpster fire of a game, trying to convince themselves that standing still for five minutes to cast a spell makes them some kind of MMO god. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.
@@xlotux ummmmmmm……no. And it’s prob for the best. I mean, it’s hard for the devs to deal with people like me. Blunt, honest and brutal. You know, the kind of thing that needs to be said in order for devs that have taken the better part of 10 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to actually make a game worthy of that time and money spent.
@@TheeAthiswell, sometimes good criticism is needed for growth…as long as it can be delivered respectfully. If you change your mind in the future I’d be happy to show you around Terminus! @CestPasFaux-kt9zq Have you? Have you Played EQ1? Have you played EQ2? Have you played Vanguard Saga of Heros? Do you know the history behind Brad Mcquaidlud and his former Dev team? Were you there when the very same promises that are being made on their Pantheon page are being fed back to you guy now word for word? My opinion comes from an extensive play thru of all the above mentioned, with well over 2000 hours combined. Think of me as the old man who's been here before. For a new comer, is it not just the obvious pathetic excuse for the visuals and mechanics that apparently took 10 years to come up with....I mean, that in it of itself is enough for anyone with common sense to question this game in the first place. Listen, it's your money.....spend it as you wish, but my opinion stands strong and true based on more experience than most posting here. Take it, or leave it.
Join a Guild. I have no problem finding groups right now. The guild I'm in, and others run 2-3 groups a night. Because grouping is such an integral part of the game, it really is not hard finding a group. While you wait, go do gather/crafting.
its 2024 we have nanite lumen etc etc why does this game look so dogshit..like it was developed 20 years ago.. its all been done before.. classes races dungeons blabla.. this game is dead before it even starts.
Fair, the overall idea isn’t new. I think what’s interests so many people though is there are NO other MMOs out there made even in the last decade with this kind of gameplay…unless you go back to EverQuest. All MMOs hold your hand, give you a detailed map, allow you to play solo, and it’s a rare case where you actually die or fail. Pantheon gives you a real challenge and requires you to keep your brain turned on, which is such a nice change.
becuase most Old school Gamers aren't as shallow as you seem to be, might I suggest all the Trash Loot Box P2W Korean MMO for you. Throne and Liberty or Black Desert are over there.
Funny accusation when this game has no large, corporate backers at all. They sacrificed “money grabbing” when they made the decision to build the game they wanted and stay true to those core tenants. If only more developers were willing to take that risk, I’d expect we would already have more variety when it comes to MMOs.
From my perspective, the community is alive and very much growing rapidly. I understand it’s been a long road but I’m new to the scene as of a few months ago and the progress is transparent, on-track, and extremely hopeful! Keep and eye out and maybe we will see you in Terminus down the road.
Nope its not I just played it all week and the server were full of people 24/7. The EA shut down this friday until next month and all I can think about is this game coming back and how I will roll a Necromancer next time.
It will be interesting to see which direction they go with payments at full release.
i rather they do battle pass n such so we can opt in to give them more money, too many games dont have subs and still work fine.
If you really support devs I guess you could always send a check to them every month.
First time coming across your content. Appreciate the positive outlook and subscribed! Looking for more videos to come
Thank you! Finally finding time to give the channel some regular attention. :) Definitely plan to continue covering Pantheon as well as an assortment of whatever catches my eye…mostly ARPGs, MMOs, and some indies. 😊
Pantheon Early Access is out. Where are your videos at?!
I haven’t been able to play! We’ve been moving from California to Florida and allllll my stuff is packed. 😢😢
I may have to reconsider Pantheon 🤔
Definitely don’t count it out! Feel free to join a stream, ask questions, and see what you think. I think as soon as all the races are in the game at EA launch it will look SO much better too! The lack of variety in the characters I thinks impacts the way the game looks more than people realize.
I'm currently a champion level pledge, and I'm enjoying the EQ-esque vibes I get playing during the seasons leading up to EA.
@@dennisbestii6942same!! I couldn’t stay away!
@@Nyce-Gaming I am strangely addicted. Like eq the way it took over my mind in 2000 as a 10 year old kid 🤩
You should. It’s a lot of fun and they are making big progress
Thank you! Appreciate the support & I’m sure I’ll see you in Terminus!
Fun game - just had my brother and his wife play with my buddy passes and they enjoyed it.
I’m still holding on to my buddy pass! So glad you have family to play with, that’s the best!
I find it sad you don't have more video on Pantheon. 😞
This game isn’t made for everybody so reaching the people who will love it is key.
could certainly be an issue.
@@Scott-bv6sb That's all great to hear. I'm looking forward to early access.
Once 1.0 releases, IF they decide on a subscription model, that’s when those will come in to play.
its like listening to the New World devs all over again.
Haha New World was obviously just another “modern” MMO: same graphics style as the others, same fast pace, same hand-holding…
I have been craving a sandbox pve mmo for a long time.
This should be a great option!! Also PvP servers will happen in the future so that will be an option for people looking for that as well.
@@JohnnyKusigaoh well then that’s even easier LOL! Welcome BACK to Terminus
if the box price for early access is well under $50 id be well up for an old school mmo
That’s exactly where I expect it to be. We will see in a few weeks! Would be glad to welcome you to Terminus!
Thank you for the video. I appreciate your perspective.
Thank you!

@@ClassNCoolthe more people playing, the better! And definitely the more people streaming, the better!!!
Fantastic ! Love this. Keep showing em what’s coming ! Best mmo ever !
You know it!
I'm excited with a dash of trepidation
I miss the old school mmo days.
And hey, we all have busy lives! I built a Guild with that in mind if you decide to hop in and need a group! We are the Rebel Rogues. :)
@@xlotux I'll definitely look you up when I hop in.
Isnt that just World or Warcraft?
WoW is super solo-friendly…but is also super hand-holdy and gives you XP faster than you can remember what level you are! I can understand wanting to have a slower paced, true grind but still don’t necessarily have time to always group up.
Pledged way back in 2016, I have never participated in any of the seasonal tests but im looking forward to joining EA.
There’s a season active right now if you wanted to hop in! Testers have access until Dec 1 when servers will go offline in prep for EA.
im glad they went back to original idea, for a while there i was worried and didn't like the path they were going on.

You rock, thanks! 🎉
I played eq before it was out of beta, if this gfx engine holds up it will do great.
Damnit I need to buy it now
Haha, even more great things have been added since I made this too!
They did compromise.. which saddened me.. but the early alpha was still fun.. also monthly sub is the only way this game will go long term.. and only option honestly
Sorry, compromise on what?
I see this sentiment coming up, and I think nwhat people mean is some things have changed like the graphic style. Having said that, that isn't what Joppa was talking about. He said VR hasn't compromised on the "core tenets," which is a specific list of 20 items that are on the website. They are specific things like content is king and players will influence the game economy. None of the tenets are about graphics, at least directly. The video should have explained this better or shown a link to the page listing them out, so people don't keep getting confused.
Ohhhhhh sorry now I’m understanding! I actually didn’t realize the “core tenants” were on the website, I’ll have to check those out.
They have not compromised on their tenets, so I don't understand your comment.
@xlotux yeah im excited for it, it seems inspired by ffxi as well, ffxi every job(class) feels different and the game becomes more tactical in the higher level more dangerous content, that's why I said you should try it out while you wait for this to come out, it'll give you an idea of what you're in for, i hold ffxi as the best MMORPG of all time, but who knows maybe pantheon will be that next game for me
great breakdown!
Well thanks!
The graphics kill me this is worse than Dark age of camelot thats 15 years ago. Im gonna play but this needs to be fixed
@@MYLITTLENINJA757fair-I wasn’t aware of Pantheon until a few months ago so all I have is a more recent perspective.
So if you had zero money and wanted a 3D engine with a built-in editor, it was the default choice for a while." --END QUOTE
Pantheon had no upfront money and a failed Kickstarter (something that is essential when discussing Pantheon, but most 'critics' never, sincerely, take into account)
As a result, they have never had enough money to properly fund the development of this MMO, and it has been an uphill battle.
Switching over to Unreal, making more realistic graphics or any of the other suggestions folks love to throw out there is profoundly cost prohibitive to a small indie studio. Which is why they switched the graphic style.
I could say a lot more, but one can check out Bazgrim's old video on the history of Pantheon and for clarification.
the product is more than the sum of its individual parts
Im guessing you never played everquest wich this is a newer version of
I played a very small number of hours in EQ1 after playing Pantheon just to see some of the origins. You can definitely feel the inspiration.

Look… Pantheon is bringing back the glory days when players had to work together and strategize to overcome obstacles…. Ah thank you, wasn’t certain about that. I’ve seen higher…then realized it was a dev LOL.
this game looks so fun
Unfortunately money requires math and the benefit of the doubt its sub only(please) and at 10$ a month. Just math how many concurrent players that requires to just pay jappa and one person to run the server...... He intentionally leaves it completely open. I still think they are doing the best option if the buy in entry is low. Buy the subscribers now cheap then they can come back at any time for just a month and see how its progressed.
Good point-I’ve never done the math on how many players would pay even a single employee. I don’t if anybody would bat an eye at $10/month, that’s extremely reasonable.
10$ a month isnt appropriate for 2024. a sub only should be atleast 15-18$ but people I know people who cant do math will throw hands at that price. so sadly they cant do it right no matter what they do
So they screwed over all initial investors?
How’s that?
This has to be paid advertising there’s no way you believe this
I’m very honest with my opinions and everything I said was true.
@@xlotux 👀this game looks like it’s from 1998 😒
@@pgrow420I genuinely believe they are 1) better experienced in person; the lighting and textures/details are way more present than you get with 2 second b-roll footage 2) they have an overall classic/timeless look that will stand the text of time-they will never feel like unreal engine 17, but they will also never feel old 2) what will continue to improve that isn’t currently in game are all the race models, race armor, and lots of the enemies are currently placeholder models.

I'm excited for this game because every other MMO has bombed out for example pax dei.
The price for full access has me concerned that this is just a money grab.
All games are money grabs.
They're a business
Calling it Early Access is just another fumble in a long line of mistakes
I think the trailer very clearly stated what their intent was behind calling it early access, and I think it’s smart. There will be a huge chunk of very-playable, fun content, so it seems reasonable to open it to a wider audience to increase chatter. Just my perspective though.
@@xlotux indeed it did say that, but how many casual gamers ( which is who they need to draw in for this to succeed) are going to realize what it means and then they figure out this game has been in development for over a decade?
I'm a simple man.
My god. This looks 3 decades old.
I just made a new Pantheon video addressing graphics concerns if you want to check it out!
pre alpha was a ton of fun already. Im super hyped for EA. idiotic haters can f off we dont want fortnite players in this anyways
I included a tiny piece of your comment in my newest video. 😂 Thanks for the idea!
This game is literally 30 years behind everyone else....stop the bullshit gaslight already.
I heard Throne & Liberty just released…it looks…😅
You have never played a game that need team strat come on .... DDO online was 100% that
I’ve never played D&D, let alone DDO! 😅
I wish this didn't look like total garbage, i truly do. "Indie" and "mmo" rarely mix. Looks like another failure as of now.
@@AlbertoMartinez765I would say it has a “classic” or “timeless” look. But yes, T&L came to my mind when I thought of “pretty” but “not fun”.
I prefer games with content. Sorry Pantheon. Tetris has more content then Pantheon.
Your comment actually inspired me to make a new video discussing EA content if you wanted to check it out. ;)
Sooooo…we won’t be seeing you in Terminus?
@@xlotux ummmmmmm……no. And it’s prob for the best. I mean, it’s hard for the devs to deal with people like me. Blunt, honest and brutal. You know, the kind of thing that needs to be said in order for devs that have taken the better part of 10 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to actually make a game worthy of that time and money spent.
@@TheeAthiswell, sometimes good criticism is needed for growth…as long as it can be delivered respectfully. If you change your mind in the future I’d be happy to show you around Terminus! I think you’d be surprised at how passionate Visionary Realms about creating a game that people are looking for and wanting to do it right. 😊
Hard pass, I don't want to stand around looking for a group for hours on end like EQ
Pantheon gives you a real challenge and requires you to keep your brain turned on, which is such a nice change.
your brain is also dead before it even started
becuase most Old school Gamers aren't as shallow as you seem to be, might I suggest all the Trash Loot Box P2W Korean MMO for you. Throne and Liberty or Black Desert are over there.
Am I crazy this looks like garbage, why would I play this over Everquest? This just looks like a shallow attempt of a game.
You may want to check out my newest video for an answer to that!
$50 for a game that looks like that lmao who pays for that omg off
A lot of people pay money for games without their graphics being the best. Look at Minecraft omg lmao omg. Use brain.
I mean…people pay $100+ for Ubisoft games. 😂 That’s the real joke. 😅
lol another mmo wanna be makers that just grabs money
Funny accusation when this game has no large, corporate backers at all. They sacrificed “money grabbing” when they made the decision to build the game they wanted and stay true to those core tenants. If only more developers were willing to take that risk, I’d expect we would already have more variety when it comes to MMOs.
This game is dead alreddy. It's been dead for a long long time.
From my perspective, the community is alive and very much growing rapidly. I understand it’s been a long road but I’m new to the scene as of a few months ago and the progress is transparent, on-track, and extremely hopeful! Keep and eye out and maybe we will see you in Terminus down the road.
why are you lying carl?
Nope its not I just played it all week and the server were full of people 24/7. The EA shut down this friday until next month and all I can think about is this game coming back and how I will roll a Necromancer next time.
