Y'know. Maybe I'm not supposed to spend time in Dirtmouth. Maybe. But despite that, it's the place I return to after beating a boss, or retrieving an item that I needed, or discovering a new area's stag station. I like those only because of *extremely* atmospheric moment of gaining a Void heart. Way up the dark hole, with sad and powerful music, while vessel bodies falling down... And the words "No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering. Born of God and Void. You shall seal the blinding light that plagues their dreams. You are the Vessel. Joseph Anderson's story about finding Deepnest in his first playthrough perfectly captures the mystique of the location and if you watch the SGDQ True Ending speedrun by Vysuals this year, it was the one area he had to mute when first running the game because he hates bugs and it made him super upset.
I feel the same. I liked how different Deepnest was from every other area, in a sinister way. I mean personally I think the Ancient Basin is the place I enjoy visiting the most but the Crystal Peak has the best mechanics to me. Just the platforming and the enemies that mesh well with it feel so nice (except crystal hunters. Those are about Primal Aspid levels of nope)
Both the Hive and Fungal Wastes are probably the most memorable areas because they have interesting enemies and really worthwhile rewards. Also, I definitely prefer Greenpath to the insanity that is Queen's Garden to the point where the two areas feel almost redundant to one another
"Conquering the challenges of the Basin, The Abyss, And the White Palace all together is a legendary feat only taken on by the fierciest of platforming veterans" Farewell: Allow me to introduce myself.
Controversial opinion: Deepnest is the best area Yeah there are trips, enemies popping out of the floor, creepy crawly things, darkness, a maze-like layout, and creepy music, but that's what makes it great. The trickery of the floor falling, the villagers taking you to a beast den, a clone of you turning into a spider, and the grubs becoming enemies makes you have to react quickly. You never know what to expect and I love that. Also, the maze-like structure is fun to explore (at least after you get your first bench in deepnest) I do get WHT people hate it, but I dont
General Turkey Deepnest honestly wasn’t that bad. Sure, it’s bosses weren’t that great but the creepy atmosphere honestly really makes up for it. The scene with the distant villagers and the bench was pretty disturbing and funny at the same time and there are many enemies that go with the creepiness. You’ve got little weaverlings, deephunters, creatures that embody corpses, etc. It’s honestly just an awesome area imo.
Hollow Cup it’s not for everyone then. The whole point of that area was to make you feel cold, isolated, and unsettled compared to the rest of Hallownests areas.
I live for these videos now, you earned yourself a sub I just finished the game like 2 hours ago with 100% completion. Man the White Palace and Flower Quest can fuck right off. Idk if I'll do 112% full completion but these vids have made my day for the past week or so. Thanks man

The White Palace buzz saws really soured the scene at the end for me. I couldn't think of doing anything but bashing the king's corpse while shouting "fuck you" at my monitor. Which is exactly what I did.
The most interesting part about the white palace is that despite the difficulty it doesn't feel frustrating, nor unfair. The peaceful soundtrack makes a big role in this chilling challenge.
Considering that I'm still going through the game and inevitably rage quitting every 15 minutes, I enjoyed this way too much and that outro? Perfect. Keep it up. I enjoyed every bit of it.

or maybe because we all know hell too well what a fucking annoying place it is, just cause of the soul-teleporting pieces of shits. Besides that, its an amazing area.
finally someone else gets that ancient basin is the best area love the atmosphere there, it manages to get that "nobody should be here" vibe even stronger than the other areas that try for that like the howling cliffs, kingdom's edge, and deepnest that feeling is reinforced by how easy it is to get stuck there before you're ready-- it's an undertaking walljumping your way out through the elevator shaft when you might not even know where the bench is
I actually love royal waterways cause it has Dung Defender , I always stop by to chat with him. And for the flower quest , I somehow managed to finish it in 2 tries 😳

Soul charms will help with healing. I went through the Crossroads, then fog canyon, then I climbed into the Queen’s Garden. The spikes got me but without the enemies that’s the only threat! :3
I loved the jokes. I have a totally different top, but I respect your opinion

I ended up spending a lot of time in Dirtmouth because of Grimm. (Grey Prince Zote wasn't worth it.)
hOw DaRe YoU! hE iS tHe MiGhTy PrInCe, BeSt BoSs In-GaMe!
I LOVE Grimm's character design btw, it's so cool.
zote was super easy with a unbreakable strength.

Doing the path of pain is actually up there with my greatest life achievements...
I'm 26,
Served 6 years in the armed forces
Multiple mechanical engineering qualifications
Learnt how to drive pretty much anything
Travelled the world and lived in 3 countries
All that s*it has nothing on the feeling you get after smashing path of pain out for the first time 👌😂
Fun Fact:Health Bars first appeared in Kirby Games.
So if Kirby didn't exist, you would've liked Sewer Levels better.
Theres helath bars in kirby?
@@phoenixlawton6723 yeah? They’ve been in pretty much every Kirby game.
@@mrderp1217 oh shit i forgot, i was thinking when you get you lose your power up and after that if you get hit without a power you die, kind of like mario lol
I screenshotted that moment too and made it my wallpaper
Interesting.

This game made me scared of orange juice.
*drink orange juice and become on with the radiance* 🤣
you will hate me, though I must say I quite like the royal waterways, the atmosphere was damp and heavy, a good contrast to the melancholic but beautiful city of tears
The parts without "tremo-waste" look kind of clean and beautiful, and the colors are soft and clean
Deepnest was probably my favourite area to explore and taking the tram made me realise just how much more i had left to explore
your toxicity is so funny i die every time. pls never stop with your humor
2019 and there are still new HK area rankings coming out.

I mean personally I think the Ancient Basin is the place I enjoy visiting the most but the Crystal Peak has the best mechanics to me. Just the platforming and the enemies that mesh well with it feel so nice (except crystal hunters. Those are about Primal Aspid levels of nope)

Hey! That’s my favorite boss!
Oh well like what you want
Honestly I love the city of tears, and through 2 playthroughs worth I’ve sometimes gone there specifically for the atmosphere. The place is awesome
Both the Hive and Fungal Wastes are probably the most memorable areas because they have interesting enemies and really worthwhile rewards. Also, I definitely prefer Greenpath to the insanity that is Queen's Garden to the point where the two areas feel almost redundant to one another

I think rusty is just like GIMME SILKSONG SO I CAN START DOING VIDS ON IT
Controversial opinion:
Deepnest is the best area
Yeah there are trips, enemies popping out of the floor, creepy crawly things, darkness, a maze-like layout, and creepy music, but that's what makes it great.
Dirtmouth has a beautiful theme though. Absolutely beautiful and melancholic
Bruh, this was great, listening to this somehow made me focus well enough to actually best the second hornet fight, thanks my dude, also cool list
you just know when someone is drunk when the deepnest isn’t on number 15

Wow. Never been called a Yaba-Daba-Dumbass before. That made me laugh harder than it should have
I live for these videos now, you earned yourself a sub
I just finished the game like 2 hours ago with 100% completion. Man the White Palace and Flower Quest can fuck right off. Idk if I'll do 112% full completion but these vids have made my day for the past week or so. Thanks man
OK I'm not being funny, I LOVED the water ways first time I played through hollow knight. Like the whole ascetic is just... good!.. you can stone me now
“Top 10 pieces of gum i found at the bottom of this fucking Barrel I’m scraping”
Made me laugh a lot more than it should have
Welcome back superforge
The description for the path of pain is perfect, exactly how I felt after an hour of not even completing the first section
You got me with the Ohio references. Thanks man that was golden
The White Palace buzz saws really soured the scene at the end for me. I couldn't think of doing anything but bashing the king's corpse while shouting "fuck you" at my monitor.
Which is exactly what I did.
Whoa whoa whoa, slow down there buddy, are you telling me, that Deep nest, FKING DEEP NEST is not even top 10
The most interesting part about the white palace is that despite the difficulty it doesn't feel frustrating, nor unfair. The peaceful soundtrack makes a big role in this chilling challenge.
Amazing list.
A bit disappointed deepnest isn’t in your top 3 but eh, taste thing.
who else loves the howling cliffs when youre doing parkour and you proceed to *fall all the way down.*
Dirtmouth #1 because it has wayward compass
"Cornifer's Buzz Buzz mosquito ass to get my hands on a map"
Holy shit 😂
I really hated my journey to the kingsoul. Queens garden is a nightmare
Ryiken that was y fav area
Considering that I'm still going through the game and inevitably rage quitting every 15 minutes, I enjoyed this way too much and that outro? Perfect. Keep it up. I enjoyed every bit of it.
How do you rage quit for Hollow knight? It's one of the least frustrating games I've ever played.
@@legrandliseurtri7495 I can see why it can be frustrating for some people that arent that good at games
@@marko17242 I wrote this comment before doing Godmaster. I'm sick at even looking at Absolute Radiance after spending hours fighting her on ascended lol.
If we didn't count dirtmouth as a real "area" since you don't really do any good platforming or fighting there, then yeah, I agree, Royal Waterways is trash and the absolute worst area.
Kyle Long royal waterways is literal trash
I hated being at the Royal Waterways but I appreciate what it does for the game. Having that massive contrast between the City of Tears and the waterways kept the game more interesting in my opinion
I can Feel the pain that you felt when you described these areas.. don't worry Rusty, we're all in this together man
Whatever this was, I dig it
is this tier list inverted ? because it's almost the complete opposite of my liking
Fog Canyon makes me feel like I'm in a bubble in the bottom of the ocean and that makes me feel uncomfortable.
Disliked because Dirtmouth ranked last and Greenpath ranked 10
Crystal peak is blessed with my favorit biomesoundtrack and least favorit enemie. The transition to the resting grounds is also vers well done
An amazing script as always
another point for kingdoms edge: the colosseum. i was so amazed when i stumbled upon it first
How could you not rank soul sanctum... It has its own music, enemies and everything.
You rank the hive but not soul sanctum!?
Oscar Charles He probably didn’t rank soul sanctum because it’s not as big as the hive or something idk
@@flux2242 but it is
or maybe because we all know hell too well what a fucking annoying place it is, just cause of the soul-teleporting pieces of shits. Besides that, its an amazing area.
finally someone else gets that ancient basin is the best area
love the atmosphere there, it manages to get that "nobody should be here" vibe even stronger than the other areas that try for that like the howling cliffs, kingdom's edge, and deepnest
that feeling is reinforced by how easy it is to get stuck there before you're ready-- it's an undertaking walljumping your way out through the elevator shaft when you might not even know where the bench is
was depressed as fuck for weeks and then stumbled upon your channel
haven't laughed this hard in years!!
Deepnest wasn't pretty scary when I thought myself as a confident and arrogant hunter coming to slay every thing there.
I actually love royal waterways cause it has Dung Defender , I always stop by to chat with him. And for the flower quest , I somehow managed to finish it in 2 tries 😳

Rusty: You spend what feels like hours exploring me: spends three hours exploring greenpath after backtracking to get a compass and forgetting where hornet went
The Delicate Flower quest only took me 3 tries on my first playthrough because I’m already an overly-cautious poosy. It played to my strengths of being a coward.
The thumb nail just made me rewatched the entirety of the Pokémon series because I had nothing else to do
I believe Forgotten Crossroads are called Forgotten because the Kingdom is almost dead already and no one descends down anymore other than Conifer and some Warriors who want to go to the Colosseum
It makes the queen's gardens platforming look like tic-tac-toe is an understatement
I didn’t like the Royal Waterways either... but we wouldn’t have the GOAT Dung Defender without it 🤘🏽
Any list that doesn’t have City of tears at #1 is invalid. I don’t make the rules.
I'm so glad Hollow knight came onto PS plus. Not only is the game epic but stumbling on your videos after watching some lore videos has been great. I've had such a laugh watching these videos.
