I was lucky enough to get to work my grandpa’s Case 500. But I mostly drove the Farmall M and Super M. Would love to find me a Case 500. Back when I was 14-15 mid 60’s!!
the 500, either in its original, classic red scheme, and even in its later peach scheme used on later models, is in my eyes, one of the most beautiful work machines i have ever seen, second only to the international 2+2 88 series

Exactly! A lot of people laugh and say you can't get anything done with so little HP. Look at 8N, 9N, Farmall, Oliver, etc.... They were all tractors with 2 cylinders at 25 - 45 HP, but they crawl with plows and discs like they were 250 -450 hp. Lots of low end torque. Some of the tractors today are built that same way.

My dad has a 520. It’s the same thing but has a foot clutch. They sound great!

Dad used to say you could stand a quarter on edge with it on idle and the quarter wouldn't fall over it ran so smooth.
One drawback was the limited gear selection.

Very nice tractor. My dad had an LA gas tractor that looked a lot like the 500. I guess the 500 later became the 900 and then the 930

The HP may be small but the torque is over the top.

When I was a kid these tractors were what they used to work in the fields, now they would be classed as 'chore tractors'. The first tractor I ever drove was my Dad's Farmall F-12. There was nothing electric on it, it had what my Dad called an 'armstrong' starter, you had to crank it. I went to work for a neighbor and drove an F-14. I was 13, stood 5'" and weighed about 135. I wasn't tall or heavy, but I was strong. I love going to the State Fair and sitting in today's tractors. Air ride suspension on the seats and a cab with heat and air conditioning. Those old tractors didn't even have an umbrella, but I sure got a nice tan on my face and arms.
It looks much like the Case Model L (or LA) in terms of size, design. I don't think she said year it was built. We had an L, and later a DC3. I remember the steel seat and being able to lift and slide back for more room to stand. Much of the farm work was done standing on the tractor. The steel dish seats were not very comfortable.
500 Diesel was built 1953-56. The 500 was the direct replacement model for the Case LA
