    This is my “Master Class” for OBS Studio. I’ve spent basically all of 2017 researching, scripting, revising, shooting, and producing this course, and I’m quite proud of what it’s become. This should be a fantastic all-in-one reference guide with the software, with just minimal updates required for new features.
    This course will primarily focus on the Windows version of OBS Studio. I have some minor points that reference differences with macOS and Linux setup, but I cannot currently go in-depth with those versions at this time.
    Also, this video is available in a full 4K UHD 60 frames per second format. This will give you not only the best visual quality, but the best clarity for viewing text and settings menus.

    You missed on important fact. When you do all your analogue gates, compressors, limiters, de-essers, etc. elsewhere from your PC, you don't place unnecessary workload on your CPU if you are doing something like streaming. That's also a huge benefit all-in-all. ;-)

    Very helpful. I am in the process of setting up a more professional audio system for my conference calls with work and for training content creation. My hacked together solution works but is much in need of improvement, but the budget is limited and I am not even close to a sound expert. Some of your advice lines up with my analysis (translation: "guesswork") so that's reassuring but you've also given me new things to think about. Thank you!

    Thanks a lot. I've been struggling with the question of what to do with my Sennheiser headphones which use 1/4" plug and standard Blue Yeti mic. To date, my solution has been connect the headset to the Yeti via a 1/4" - 3.5 mm adapter, and then the Yeti to one of the USB ports on my computer. I found this setup to be clunky, and just plain ugly with the wires all strewn about. I decided to clean things up by switching to the Razer wireless headset, and have rather quickly discovered that I hate it. It's heavy, bulky, and the earpieces make my ears sweat after a few minutes use.
    I finally decided to go the usb interface route, and have purchased the PreSonus Audiobox 2x2 along with a new mic stand. I went cheap on my first desk mount mic stand and well, you get what you pay for. I may need to get more advanced in the future, but for someone who just does the occasional streaming, I just need game sound, discord, and a mic input.

    2:43 he’s not lying, if you’re doing streaming through obs and you have windows 10, don’t buy a Scarlett interface. I’m gonna have to buy something else, I’ve had issues trying to stream for 3 years and I’m finally gonna but something else, that’s exactly why I’m watching this video.

    I come from a slightly different venue, live music reinforcement- but I cannot begin to express how pleased I am with the Behringer USB 1832 mixer. For $250.00 it is a killer. I run it EVERY day, turning it off and on 10-15 times and pushing digital stereo piano and vocals thru it- NOT ONE PROBLEM! While on-board effects might turn some people off, I love the effects on this mixer, especially on vocals. The nine band EQ is fine + I have a "feedback finder" feature as well. I use this for my gigs, and well, it really does the job! How much do I like it? Well, I am going to buy another- not because of issues- BUT because it is perfect in all areas. I'm afraid a "new" model might be released and not possess the features this unit has.

    I use a USB-Mixer and Voicemeeter Banana. Every physical piece of my setup is run over the Mixer and for recording only special programms (and not the hole Dektop-Sound) I use Audio Router to send a programms audio to the second virtual soundcard, wich then goes out to one of the two virtual outputs. And this Output is where I'm recording from.

    If you have outside crosstalk interference and have trouble locating it, one cheap solution is a wire toner or small AM radio which can be used to hold on/near the surfaces of active hardware and lines to see which is generating interference. This is also an easy way to rule out lighting issues such as bad ballasts or other power management issues. I picked this trick up working in telecom and dealing all manner of signal interference.

    so the mixer I run currently is a Peavey Unity Series 300 mixer , a 12 channel analogue . (it's a step up from the 4 track porta 07 Cassette recorder I have) it just took me a while to figure out that I can connect 3 PC's to one mixer , yea 3 PC's to one mixer using RCA to 3.5mm cables with extenders . but over all the video was very informative hell I decided to try and include my gaming PC's line in I may end up doing the same on my streaming PC and see what results I get , as soon as I can get my adapters and RCA extenders I'll be able to connect my XBOX 360 to my PC and see what kind of footage I can get from it .

    There's also the option of routing the analog mixer into the audio interface. I have only had issues with this set up when my laptop died due to a bad outlet not charging it :-/. otherwise this set up has been inexpensive and has worked well for me.

    awesome video! I have experience with home studio recording setups, however I need help with setting up OBS and splitting audio signals. My primary audio interface is an M-Audio Firewire 1814 with a Presonus D8 connected via adat lightpipe for an additional 8 mic pre channels. I also have a behringer XENYX 2442FX sitting around that I want to incorporate into my setup for streaming but am not entirely sure how to in conjunction with the Firewire 1814.
    What I want to do is split audio sources from my computer audio such as diskord chat, music player, and web browser but am not sure how to route the signal into the mixer and back into the audio interface. Essentially I want to be able to control my mic volume on its own channel on the mixer, gameplay audio on its own channel, and all other audio such as web browser and music on its own channel.
    I was almost thinking since the Firewire 1814 has 2 stereo outputs (1/2 & 3/4) is to send the gameplay audio out the audio interface channel 1/2 to channel 1 on the mixer, then setup diskord to out channel 3/4 to channel 2 on the mixer. plug my microphone into channel 3, and monitor with my headphones through the mixer or with my studio monitors plugged into the Control Room out. And here lies the confusion. I still want to send the web browser and music player audio (preferable on the same channel) to the mixer. I suppose I could send it with Diskord audio out channel 3/4 and control the balance in windows volume mixer. And then finally how would do I go about sending the whole mix on the board back to the audio interface? main mix out to 1/4 inch balance input on the audio interface?
    Sorry thats a lot to read but it all makes more sense visually looking at all the gear I have laid out in front of me.

    Nice video there, all i want to do is being able to stream my music so i can perform a live concert from my room lol. In resume no matter what i do i can't get the interface to work all the channels, just the 2 first inputs of the interface work but the third won't wonk i wish it could work.
    I do loops on a Boss Rc-30 pedal i use a guitar and a drumpad and also sing a little bit, so my setup goes like this: on a focusrite 18i8 i use 3 inputs; 1) the first input for vocals with a XLR cable (this one is separeted from the loop pedal Boss Rc-30) 2) I use this input for guitars the second input from the boss RC-30 goes to the second input of the audio interface with a 1/4 inch cable connected and 3) i used this one for drums which one comes from the second input of the Boss-Rc30 to the third input on the interface, this last one doesnt work properly, it's like it only recieves the 2 first inputs signals from the interface(the mic and guitars) and not the third one (which is the drum channel), what i want to do is being able to recieve the signal from this third input too, i tried different ways, like connecting my DAW (ableton) with some softwares like voice meter and virtual cable, but it doesn't seems to work.
    If anyone can help me with this i would be very grateful.

      I think what he was saying was to run an actual cable from the monitor out/main out from your interface with an 1/8" TRS adapter to your computer's mic input. Aka a 2-track submix of all the interface's channels. Still pretty ghetto if you ask me! But at least you would be able to hear all your tracks, as long as you did your gain staging correctly within the interface. Hope you work something out so we can enjoy your beautiful music!

    HELP ! - I´m almost giving up from OBS Studio. I try to use it to broadcast a WebTV program, I use external mixer and audio interface, but it´s too complicated to route things propperly, for example, how to play videos or a playlist on OBS and hear at the same time on the mixer ? one of the problems is that when I play a video clip on OBS, I can´t hear it, unless I set monitor it, but doing this, I hear pops and clicks and these cracks are broadcasted also. Perhaps OBS is not optimized for live broadcast videos Mp4 and MOV. Have you experienced that ?

    Hello! Thank you so much for all your videos. They helped me a lot! I'm a fitness instructor and I'm setting up my studio to teach online. I got the Behringer Xenyx Q502USB to plug in my mic and my music, and connected to my pc through the USB cable. The connection is successful and I can hear everything when I record my class through OBS but the sound recorded is very low. I turned off most of the tracks on OBS audio mixer for my Q502 (left only 2 checked), and set all the other devices volume to 0% except the Q502 set as 100%. Finally I muted all other options of sound under the OBS Audio Mixer option AND "audio monitoring" is set to Monitor Off. The recorded video volume is still low compare to the volume I recorded. Do you recommend changing more settings in OBS or in the Q502 (I have everything at middle point) to increase the sound quality of my Windows 10 laptop? My intention is to upload these into Vimeo and place in my website. My settings under audio is set with 48Hz, stereo channels and I got "Default" on all devices. The decay rate is Fast and peak meter type is "sample peak". Monitoring device "default". The disable windows audio ducking is checked. Under "OUTPUT" I got recording tab set with Standard Type, mkv format and I got 3 audio tracks selected. My audio bitrate is 160 and I'm recording with 60FPS GoPro camera. Any help is deeply appreciated!

    Only reason I use voice-banana is so I can have each audio source have it's own track. As I have my mic, my game audio, and then my chat audio(Xbox, Skype, Discord, etc.). so I have it set up with 4 audio channels total(1 extra combining all channels). that is one issue I had with mixers as I wanted each audio source separate as so I could edit each one individually. Mixers down-mix all channels to one; so yes you can edit them on the fly but for simply recording I find it easier for me to go through this route

    Hi, just discovered your channel as I'm trying to figure out the best way to make OBS streams of myself singing along to karaoke tracks; in other words mini-concerts from my studio. What I'm struggling with is to get something with acceptable latency as I'm self-monitoring in headphones while I sing AND I want to add some delay/reverb to my voice in the livestream. I'm using a condenser mic and I have a focusrite Saffire 24DSP and a Scarlett 2i4, but also have an old analog Mackie VLZ1202 and an Alesis MidiVerb lying around. I was hoping to do all this digitally as my desk space is limited but I'm starting to wonder... My original setup involved playback of music from DAW (Cubase) into Voicemeeter and sending all that to OBS. But I was having issues - the moment I enabled monitoring in Cubase, my mic would have an awful feedback loop so that wasn't working. I wanted to use the plugins loaded in Cubase. Because OBS now has the option of adding a plugin chain (which will apply to the stream) and I only need music playback, I'm wondering if I should just ditch Voicemeeter completely, and playback the tracks from Windows Media Player? Do you have any suggestions, or ideally videos, on streaming a karaoke concert? If not, could you please make one?

    If your submix is heading to the LineIn on the PC, but you're interviewing/interacting with someone on TeamSpeak/Skype/VOIP, how do you isolate them to only hear a different submix of just your microphones without game/music/other audio, including their own audio echo?
    My audio interface burned out recently; It presented itself as two mic inputs, as well as two sound outputs. I had do some circular routing to take computer audio out of the sound card, route it back into the interface and then mix it out on the secondary "mic" usb channel. This system often broke in Windows (bad drivers? bad OS?)
    I need to replace that interface, and I'd like to do it with a mixer, but I am struggling to find a mixer with (wet) multitrack recording over USB; Some have Main + Subgroup out, and the 12MTK gives you Main+Subgroup then 12-dry single tracks (not mixed). But what I'd like is a few (4?) mixed channels going back via USB so I can...
    1.send one mix to TeamSpeak/Skype/VOIP for a mixture of Mics + Music/game audio but NOT their own echo
    2. OBS with the full mix of Mics, TeamSpeak/Skype/Voip + Music/game audio.
    3. A commentary track, Mics only (or maybe Mics + teamspeak) without additional audio that is continually recorded.
    4. ... I haven't thought of a use for a 4th channel, but best to have a spare.
    Any thoughts on how to get multiple mixes all heading back to Windows?

    Ok, so I'm running a 16 channel analog mackie with a aux coming out of one of my physical channels, direct audio into my pc. So outside of that are you saying that I would need a focusrite or baby beringer? I have enough channels in the mackie. Each instrument and mic has its own physical channel. I can't hear the mix on my obs end to get full surround when I go live. Right now were just using the internal mic on the canon to hear live audio. When I plug into the pc all of my levels on obs go dead. Is it possible that I may need to run virtual plug-ins as well. I saw another video that spoke to that in some sense, or do I just need to choose audio in from properties??

    What would you suggest for Linux? I know at least seven inputs are needed (two for my Roland CM-32L synth, two for my Roland Sound Canvas (which also has its own input), one for mic, and at least two for older consoles/computers that only output analog sound).

    Presonus AR12 solves all my problems. Multitracking with paired USB devices running through one cable. Press USB 1/2 over the main fader and you’re good to go. No issues I’ve found with it. Just posted a video on how it all works.

    Hello and thank you for your nice video.
    I use to connect my Korg Krome keyboard into my Bose Compnaion 5 (2.1 system) Aux Input: the 2 1/4 jack keyboard output (for a stereo sound) are converted into a single 3.5mm jack that plugs into the Companion 5 Aux Input. I works nice. The Bose are already connected on my computer via USB connection.
    Now I would like to connect my DX7 synth (2 output 1/4 jack), my electric guitar (1 output 1/4 jack), and my Yamaha Piagero NPV80 2 keyboard (1 output 1/4 jack) to my Bose 2.1 speakers, the whole IN STEREO, via the entry jack 3.5 mm.
    Do I need to use a mixer (BEHRINGER XENYX QX1002USB), an audio interface (BEHRINGER UMC404HD), or both of them?
    Thank you in advance for your answers!

      2 years later, but yeah there is a concept called "Mix minus". It can be done with all mixers, but with some differences.
      You can get audio IN from a source and send audio OUT without that source.
      It's useful for recording web calls with a mixer. You can mix multiple sources including one from the PC. And send to the PC a "MIX" with the other sources "MINUS" the audio from the call.
      So the other person in the call hears the mix, but not their own voice.
      And you can still record the whole mix.

    What about having an audio interface hooked up to a regular mixer? The mixer taking in sound as well as 2 mics then processing it to say a focusrite then to PC? I only saw the suggestion of the USB mixers.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  6 років тому

      No reason to do that. Run the mixer via analog in or potential USB connection and call it a day. An interface will only complicate things, risk additional line noise, and give you no benefit.

    thanks for this video. I have some questions. Hi I need to put all my instrumentation live into the room as some of my instruments are not miced directly rather with room mics. I need to hear it in the room. I need to be able to use a mixing board and my speakers in the room and then send sound into the software. I am only playing by myself but want the best audio quality to live stream a solo music concert. This concert I will not live stream with anyone else in another location. I use about 5 to 8 microphones. I also may use a iPhone (my roommates) or my vixia cannon video camera for the camera. I heard I will need a video capture card? I need to live stream 2 hour concerts. 1080 p. Music 48 K? Does the software record the live stream too so you can download. Latency needs to be at a minimum. What equipment do I need if I use the iPhone for a camera, and what equipment if I use the video recorder, and what is the schematic? I own a few focus-rites. My camera can do a clean screen without writing in it. I don't want to use the mic in the computer to pick up the audio in the room. Please advise. Also wouldn't mind being able to use 2 cameras eventually but you need some sort of multi input box? (not needed yet), and someday would be great to play with another person in another location but not needed yet.

    This question doesn't fit here perfectly, but it's mixer related. I've got a Sony electret lavalier mic (has a battery in it). Sounds clean, but I need to turn the gain up REALLY high on my mixer to get enough sound out of it. How can I make it louder without maxing out the bias and level of the mic audio channel? Am I missing something?

    • @cb5110
      @cb5110 5 років тому

      That same issue I found with analogue mixers, some analogue mixer preamps are weak, they work well with normal mics because they can be closer, but not well lavs, because they are far from the mouth. I could not tell which one to recommend. I had to turn it up to 90% on my analogue, that why I start using digital mixer (behringer X32) or USB audio interface, I realize you do not need to max the knobs, it gives good audio about 60 to 65%. But you can also change the lav to rode, shure or senh. There are many design cheap shure lav mics and the the rode is also affordable, sehn is very pricey.

    Yeah I thought when you mentioned the OBS in your title you were going to actually talk about configuring OBS to take the audio in. Obviously to my camera mic input which is a Canon EOS r100 I am feeding that from the output of my mixer into an audio interface which is selected at line and the output which is a 1/8 selected at mic level. There are obviously controls on the mixer, also the audio interface and even in the camera to ensure I am not over driving the audio. I am however concerned about bringing video and audio from WhatsApp and was thinking of sending that out the computer into the mixer which would then come in with the regular microphone except I would be able to turn up and down the external sources from WhatsApp. Is there a way in OBS also to just take the audio direct from the WhatsApp video for guests to the stream?

    Without an audio interface you are relying on your computers on board digital - analog converters. Most computers just don’t have enough processing power in that department to compete with audio interfaces which are purpose built for that reason. You can have issues when tracking but mostly when playing back high amounts of audio tracks. An audio interface is essential for anyone wanting to mix or master music.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  5 років тому

      Equally, modern Windows struggles a LOT to maintain DPC Latency and keep USB drivers going, so in terms of stability - onboard audio is safest. For quality and professional audio-only work, digital is the way to go.
