This is my “Master Class” for OBS Studio. I’ve spent basically all of 2017 researching, scripting, revising, shooting, and producing this course, and I’m quite proud of what it’s become. This should be a fantastic all-in-one reference guide with the software, with just minimal updates required for new features.
This course will primarily focus on the Windows version of OBS Studio. I have some minor points that reference differences with macOS and Linux setup, but I cannot currently go in-depth with those versions at this time.
Also, this video is available in a full 4K UHD 60 frames per second format. This will give you not only the best visual quality, but the best clarity for viewing text and settings menus.

That fact that this video was made in 2017, and it is now 2023 will your master class still be relevant today? I know you said the updates won't matter that much, but (without sounding trite) it's always easy to the teacher, and (sometimes) for the student it does matter. Thanks again for the video.

I'd have to disagree with the -10dB (~2/3rds bar) recommendation; that's a really, REALLY quiet mix. Absolutely accurate in that you don't want to clip at any point, but you definitely want to get your main audio source as high on the bar as possible without ever clipping even when yelling; usually shooting for -1dB best-case peak. This is usually your microphone when it comes to livestreaming, but if you're doing no-commentary Let's Plays or doing simple recording your main could be the game audio.
This might be covered later in the series, but you can use audio filters to apply compressors to your channels to make it easier to properly normalize your audio peak as close to clipping as possible without ever hitting it (which is a correctly normalized mix). Other sources are then set lower, and in relation to your primary audio channel to establish the proper audio balance from there.

Hey there . . . I love your channel and I appreciate all the content and helpful advice you post. I am not a gamer, but I do want to grow on UA-cam and Twitch. I know, . . . I will not be an over night success. I am a partner on YouNow, but I've grown out of that platform. Anyway , I am having a problem with OBS and my streaming and I am hoping you may be able to offer some insight on what I am doing wrong. I look at my video in OBS and it's fine. No lag . . . but as soon as I go to Twitch or UA-cam there is a serious lag. I move my hand and its fine in OBS, but it doesn't move on UA-cam or Twitch until a minute or so later. There is a good chance I may not have my settings right, but I have tried everything. I am new to OBS and I want to start live streaming with it on UA-cam and Twitch. What am I doing wrong? I am very new to OBS, so any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your time!

@@stateportSound_wav up at the top under one of the panels is something called docks there is something there that you click on and that will restore the docs ' however you are limited to just a couple
@@therabidpancake1 i see that now (thanks for getting right back to me), but I don’t have the option for “chat” under View>Docks, nor in Preferences>Stream under where Twitch is selected. I can’t find a single person with that issue either. Resetting did not bring it back either unfortunately
