    Just wanted to say Thanks to chooster 5000 for answering my questions last year! I got my GC1705 in March 2017 & have 220 hours on it. It has far surpassed what I thought it was capable of. I have a 48 in Rhino PTO mower & have made about 10 bucket & PTO attachments like pallet forks, snow plow, gin pole, shovel, carry box with hitch & custom chain saw mount. Have been super impressed with its power & versatility & would recommend to anyone looking for a tractor in this class. Has been huge work saver on my 40 acres here in Montana.

    Great Tractor! My father bought a MF 14 horsepower mower in the 80s with Hydrostatic smooth operating deck. I ran it until 2012.
    Mowed for 30 years, now my nephew has it in Clearwater, FL. He thought it should stay in the family as an antique.

    Chooster5000. Your review confirmed what I needed to know about the Massey 54 inch mower deck and the mower's performance before I finally purchased. I bought a GC1710 and it performs extremely well. I have 38 hours on it so thanks for the in depth review.

    Thanks for the video and going thru some details. One thing I haven't been able to find yet is a video showing the turning radius. I was watching very closely as you drove around that tree in your yard, which looks to be about a 5-6' diameter circle. If you can work it into an upcoming video, could you see how tightly it turns?? Thanks again!

    nice. i read that the deck was a ground contact deck unlike a lot of the other SCUTS out there and your video confirms that. i'll bet it has better cut quality because of the ground contact deck. also seems to have a decent turn radius when you cut the wheel sharply.

    • @kirkthejerkthe1st
      @kirkthejerkthe1st 7 місяців тому

      I don't think it is. The wheels are not supposed to be contacting the ground, at least on the 50" deck.

    I work for a Massey Ferguson dealer we have a customer that is running 3 GC1705's for their cemetery mowing. I have had to take two of the three tractors completely apart and put them on new frames. the mower decks were not under the proper tension and they wore out the front hooks were the deck rides. Be EXTREMELY cautious of the hydrostat fan and driveshaft they are very prone to wearing out the rollpin hole on the plastic fan and then you will not get the proper cooling. The driveshafts were bent in both of the tractors I worked on. (Easily checked by a pocket screw driver). There is an update for the right hand side (when sitting on the seat) of the bracketry where the pedals mount. There is also an update in the driveshafts I mentioned earlier. Be careful in heavy mowing as the internals of the rear end have broke on both of the tractors I mentioned. Requiring new case for the rear end. Seem to be very nice tractors to drive. Just have to be a mindful operator. Any questions just ask.

      they seem like a nice machine but like anything new they have their problems i guess. if you have something old, proven and maintained they seem to go forever..... farmall cub, super-a ect. plus they are a hell of allot cheaper and a great tractor for the money, as long as you find a decent one

      I have the GC2600 which is the same tractor. Ive had it for 6 years and never had one issue. Ive only changed the fluids. Its been an awesome tractor and I use it beyond its capability's. I bounce off the overload valve daily on the loader. Apparently they have changed something in these newer models because mine is rock solid...

      I have a 2008 GC2600 with 2200 hrs. on it mows 10 rough acres. only thing i have done other than routine fluid changes is replace the fuel lines and a new mower deck spindle. I also have a 2015 GC1715 that i use to pull a 1100lb manure spreader, single bottom plow, snowblower. Both are rock solid they are great for a small farm. just wish they had about 2 inches more clearance ( i go deep with the plow)

    I have a 3 acre lawn with another 3 acres of woods that I am slowly clearing. I have been using my old cubcadet 782 and a large ATV. Love my cub cadet... but I really need something bigger. Ive looking at something like this Massey, but for the price I can get a nice used full size with a 3 point finish mower......... but a full size is a little over kill for my 6 acres.
    In your view, how rugged is this Massey? Is it going to last 35 plus years with little repairs... like my cub?
    Thanks for the video.... it will help me pull the trigger on something.

    Looking at a place that will have at least an acre yard, 4 acres of "pasture". Though I've been looking at these mini-tractors, I currently have a Husqvarna 24hp 48inch cut that I then will be MORE then enough for a yard that big. But was looking at a mini-tractor for garden work, some other more extensive use. I don't think I'd like to take a $15k tractor and waist it on mowing my yard. I'd be looking at adding a tiller, front brush/grapple rake, rear grader blade, etc. Not sure if I'd even need the backhoe but when I seen the prices, I'm on the fence of just what brand I want to go with. I like the swiss army knife of versitility and these small tractors look like they do just that. Thanks for the video.

      Not sure if you bought one yet or not, but after a few weeks of researching Massey, Kubota, Yanmar, John Deere, Mahindra, New Holland and a couple others, we ended up going with a ‘19 Massey GC1725MB (backhoe) with 60” drive over deck. It seemed to be the best bang for the buck. We found a great dealer fairly close to home, so that’s a plus. Dale Longenecker of Longenecker’s in Williamsburg, PA is a very nice man. The current finance offers from AGCO (Massey’s parent company) are very attractive. We went with the 0.99% for 84 months. We got the whole package for $22,800 on a new ‘19 fresh off the truck. I’m very excited to put it to work.

    hey chooser
    Do you float the deck or wheels ride on the ground when mowing ?
    I am hearing float the deck and some dealers say wheels ride on the ground ??
    Thanks

    • @pondacres
      @pondacres 4 роки тому

      I dunno if you got your answer for this, but I've been debating this myself for a bit. I came to the conclusion that Massey's instructions in the manual (and what the dealers say, per manual) for having it riding on it's wheels implies the lawn being mowed is nice and lever, no ruts and so forth. I'm mowing a yard, hills, ruts, all sorts of crap. That deck would be bouncing all over the place on those wheels and banging against the mounts on the tractor. I can't imagine that being advisable, so I suspend mine when I use the tractor for mowing.

    Do you know if you can lift the loader and curl the bucket at the same time or is it a one operation at a time type of hydraulic system like the John Deere 1 series?

    • @chooster5000
      @chooster5000  7 років тому +1

      gunnerone58 you can lift and curl at the same time it's a little slow but I don't normally r v the engine past 1800-2000 rpm at 2400 it's fairly quick, I need to get used to the bucket since it's a little hard to see it for digging and grading.

    Im looking a purchasing one of these same setup as you have in your video. I was looking at Kubota but decided to go with Massey instead. What was the total cost? if you don't mind curious and did you have to buy special insurance on the tractor?

    Shouldn't you have turf tires on it? I would think it would tear up the ground with tractor tires...

    • @MrThenry1988
      @MrThenry1988 5 років тому +1

      They don't. If it's real wet it will dent the ground. But turf tire will get stuck on the smallest hill when wet. Then they spin making a mess.

  • @JeffreyStrader
    @JeffreyStrader 8 років тому

    It's a very nice small tractor/mower, but, if I were going to spend that kind of money, I'd rather it be on a full size farm tractor. That tractor/mower is far to small to run/carry a 6' brush hog. I have 15 acres to mow and the Massey would be ok up around the home, but else where it simply could not cut the mustard.

    • @chooster5000
      @chooster5000  8 років тому +2

      Well this Massey does all that we need it for, any bigger of a tractor will not fit into the barn to clean horse stalls, so this is the perfect size for us.

    • @JeffreyStrader
      @JeffreyStrader 8 років тому +3

      Please, I feel I must apologize. I did not mean to offend you or your choice in tractors. It is a spectacular tractor/mower. I was simply speaking of the costs. Down here in Oklahoma, the smaller the tractor the higher the price. I could definitely use one like yours for other tings around here. We too have horses and find that a box blade on the back of a large tractor works for us. The reason I spoke that I prefer a bigger tractor is because where we live its all sand (Lake Thunderbird) and the horses hooves leave deep holes everywhere and the smaller the tractor the bumpier and rougher the ride. Again I meant NO disrespect to you or the tractor.

    • @chooster5000
      @chooster5000  8 років тому +1

      +Jeffrey dontyouwish oh ok Gotcha , yeah I mean the price on this machine the way you see it in the video was around $12k if you add a loader and tiller the price goes up a little bit but it was definitely a cheaper unit compared to other brands

    how do I take off the mower deck off

    • @chooster5000
      @chooster5000  7 років тому

      JEFF moore the deck isn't that hard to take off, you need to lower it on the ground , take off the mower deck drive shaft, pull the 2 rear and front spring pins and at that point you can either use the loader to lift the front end and easily slide it out or pull off the front linkage with another spring pin and the deck will slide out fairly easy.
