If I could meet and chat with any star from the 70's it would be Roy Wood. I've always liked every group he's been in.
I could listen to Roy Wood all day. He's the most underrated artist of all time, he could play almost every musical instrument. His music doesn't sound any different now to what it did in the 70's ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Roy's hair style and hair color look really good here! It's a a real natural look for him.
Great Neil Sedaka Beach Boys homage. From one of the most underrated artist we’ve had. Every time I come across this track I find myself listening to it at least 4 or 5 times.
loved this song in 1973 when i was 13 still loving it in 2024 at 64
I'd forgotten just how good Roy Wood was back in the day.. Very catchy tunes 👌
Roy's catchy and meticulous tribute to the Beach Boys and a rare sighting of his hipster look, just before he went doolally with the stage make-up! The audience often looked a bit glum in early '70s TOTPs. Not this lot, though! You go, girls!
Wow. He looks lovely there. Nice little song too xx❤
Jesus, 50 years ago!! Unbelievable!! Seems like only yesterday these tunes were being played 😮😊
Roy sans makeup or hair color post Move is rare
I'm digging the "clean, no logo, HD" ethos. Well done sir.
First time seeing this performed. Pure class from Roy Wood. My favourite song by him or The Move and Wizzard.
First single I ever bought 50 years ago today (23/1/74)
I've got the 45 (single on the Harvest record label) where Wood thanks Neil Sedaka and Brian Wilson for their influence...a delightful single...and I can't ever remember seeing this before !
Love nearly all songs from Roy!!!!!! Absolute great and amazing!!!!!!
One of the UK's finest Pop stars 🎵🌠
I'm glad I saw you in person you are gorgious Helen xxx
R.I.P. Rick Price.
Love this song! Thanks so much! I can't believe I got my favorite video in HD! I must say Roy is phenomenal with his lip syncing
! 💙🎵 💚
Happy Days! Great memories. 🙃😊
Beautiful Roy Wood lo e him

Love this
Those bobby pins making his hair just the right length
I'd never put the hurt on you Roy.. .. 😘
R I P Pricey thanks Rick
Let's have an autobiography Woody
me too, hes great xxxx
cool as !!!
Love you Roy
Roy looked so much better in this than in his Wizzard guise...
Omg Roy wood looks so gorgeous.
Roy always be the father of ELO
That modded jazz bass can be seen being played by Rick with Wizzard, the Move and even early ELO. Would love to know what happened to it
Great times.....I wonder what those girls in the front are doing now, all those years later...probably kids and grandkids! Anyone know??
Roy seen here with the sadly missed Rick Price who went on to team up with Roy in Wizzard
Excellent, but can someone explain why his voice sounds different as he sings the first lines than it sounds in the balance of the song?
Also thanks Roy uks own Phil Spector
Are these videos available in physical media (Blu-ray)? Thanks.
There's been no official release of the TOTPs clips as far as I know.
I don't know why some comments mention the Beach Boys if this has nothing to do with Sunflower's Forever (1970)
(Or at least I think so)
Here’s a RoyWood song that DEFINITELY sounds like a homage to the BeachBoys.. (called ‘Why Does Such A Pretty Girl Sing Those Sad Songs’ ):

This indeed sounds similar to the boys
Sounds like something from the Sunflower or Surf's Up era
Roy and Rick Price swapped instruments!
What's even funnier is that Rick Price is strumming a Fender 6-string bass like a guitar, like Roy Wood in the Fire Brigade performance in TOTP.
🦸🦹💯
If you think THIS sounds like a BeachBoys tribute, wait till you hear Roy Wood’s song: ‘Why Does Such A Pretty Girl Sing Those Sad Songs’..!

and also the little vocal bit in 'oh what a shame' 👌
Thanks for that tip. It even has the B. Boys' organ sound!
What's going on with Roy's bass guitar pick ups?
Whos the other guy.
It's the late, great Rick Price, who was a member of The Move and Wizzard alongside Roy.
shame they have to mime.

Kiddie music.
😂 what a con. Guitars not plugged in ffs. The singer is not singing as the mikes are not active either. What is this programme? Is this a joke on April 1st or what?
I’m pretty sure almost everything on TOTP was mimed
How could this record be recreated perfectly on tv ..in 73 let alone now ? . Not a con if you aren't of an age to know that top of the pops a brittish tv show mainly had acts miming or playing to a backing track .. sometime singing live to a rerecorded backing track ...sometimes they had an orchestra playing the backing & female backing vocalists ( crap) , and they were awful. ( musician's union ) Much rather have a mimed performance than that.. .everyone knew it was mimed the shock was when it was live!!!
Roy is such a great song writer and singer but he treats fans so terribly. His ego is out of control! Sorry Roy. I love your music but not you! Same as Van Morrison.
I’ve never heard this before. Any stories?
WHAT!
