    I own the same vehicle only a 2008, and run into the same list of stuff that needed attention. Water pump is still holding on but I created a heart attack for myself on the first oil change not realizing that the large O ring seal on the oil filter cap had a special grove that it fit in. All north american cars usually have spin on filters so was not familiar with this style. I rolled it right to the top lip of the cap, and after driving for some 50Kms oil pressure light went on, immediately shut it down and the car now has been undercoated to avoid rust from salt on the winter hwys. Corrected the problem and have put on another 100,000 kms since then. If you are not a tinkerer then this car is not for you, but it has been one of best I have owned over the years, just something about diesels. All the best from Manitoba, Canada, Harold.

      Great to hear from you in Canada. I bet the winter conditions can be tough there and the Jeep a useful and rugged work horse. Some of the best things about making UA-cam videos are the comments like this. I really like hearing about shared experiences on cars, so thank you!

    I have a 2007 that I bought brand new. 17 years of ownership and it’s been fantastic. Never had any major issues. Still on its original water pump, exhaust, pretty much everything.

    Quick very important tip... when a glowplug goes bad change all of them. If you need to change glowplug module, use ONLY beru brand (oem) . I learned the hard way, bought cheaper one and it fried 2 brand new glow plugs. Long story short, it cost couple thousand dollars CAd trying to diagnose glowplug issues. Atleast now i know lol and hopefully it helps someone else.

    I noticed your sweatshirt matches that old people interior. Anyway, I have the 2006 since it was new, I've replaced the water pump, the starter, and normal things like the brakes and shocks. The one thing to watch out for is the ignition switch, if that goes bad your dashboard lights will flicker when you're driving; there was a recall in the U.S. and Chrysler changed mine for free.

    I’ve just bought one of these where they’re actually very rare over here in the US, and i’ve had to do a water pump and the oil cooler seals already. I still love it though and like you, it was such a bargain, I couldn’t say no.

    Great motor, having had a couple of the previous models (wj) I bought my first wk last August, these Jeeps are under rated, important to add the correct slip additives in both front and rear axles, got mine for a bargain price and have spent just over £1k getting it to where it should be, the only thing to do is a good set of all terrain tyres and maybe a chip but absolutely love it, enjoy

    Just in the process of buying a 2007 3.0 CRD Overlander. It's done 110,000 miles and it's very tidy. Just looking for something to get over the winter months while my SL Mercedes goes into hibernation until next April/May. These Jeeps seem tough and I won't be doing mega miles perhaps 200 per week. Any advice or comments would be appreciated

      These are pretty old now and will need things doing, so unless you are able to maintain it you’ll need a reliable contact to do this for you, which will cost.

    Jeep is even less reliable than Land Rover and Fiat and that is quite hard to accomplish.

    • @autoknight747
      @autoknight747  Рік тому

      That has not been my experience. The OM642 engine and NAG1 W5A580 transmission are Mercedes-Benz derived and very robust, great for massive mileages and strong enough to handle immense towing weights. Later Jeeps, when Fiat got involved, are a very different story and reliability/build quality is more of a concern with those.

    Hi. I have had my WH for 7 years now and love it. Did you have any issues when you changed your coolant? Did it have air lock issues etc? Any tips would be great as about to do mine. A Mercedes specialist did my last coolant change and made a pigs ear of it. Thanks.

    • @autoknight747
      @autoknight747  Рік тому

      No problem with air locks, in fact it was one of the easiest coolant changes I’ve done. During gradual refilling, I removed the narrow rubber coolant hose from the plastic junction on one the heater hoses close to the bulkhead, which allowed air to escape while refilling. I allowed any other air to escape through there during warm up and then refitted, tightened, took for a drive, allowed to cool overnight and topped up coolant reservoir to the max on the cold engine. The level hasn’t moved since!

    What on earth are multi pin sockets? You were talking about changing the transmission fluid?

    • @Nick-bp7jf
      @Nick-bp7jf Рік тому +1

      Hi. The transmission has a multi pin electrical socket that connects to the wiring that goes to the transmission control module. This socket can leak tranny fluid. Not a bad idea to replace it before that happens.
