I was born 3 years after this video and have lived in Brixton Mayall road for 30 wonderful and happy years. Made lots of friends in our neighborhood that will always remain in my heart
Love how Brixton use to look at the start of the 1960s. The women were pretty and beautifully dressed. Can imagine that many were well educated, intelligent and even with racism, many did well by working hard and buying their homes. My Jamaican uncle bought his Streatham four storey house, just down the road, that is worth £3 million pounds today, other Jamaicans and West Indians also did well, as did my parents. What has happened to Brixton since? Sadly the generations that followed have made Brixton dangerous, untidy and not clean. Many of London's West Indians can't afford housing and have other social ills, including knife crime... that didn't exist years ago.
How unfortunate for his descendant’s, they will never get the chance to buy a property in a location and a size like he did with modest wages. 3 million pounds. No thought of how the next gen would get on and a perfect storm for gentrification in the area.
Everyone is so well dressed.
I love this video but what saddens me is Brixton Market is so far away from what it once was :-(
I grew up in Brixton MARKET, about 4 years after this film was made ..wow ...I am 60 in 2022 I live in America NYC for 30years
