On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

I was watching this in the break room at work with headphones on and as I get sucked into the video and my face gets closer to my phone and then I nearly jumped out of my chair when that KIA moment happened. These videos can be kinda hypnotic at times, way more tense and exciting than most aviation movies.
That bullet sound makes me jump EVERY time without fail

Its actually cool that your opponent is also utilizing the differential thrust, as visible from the first fight

That wail of the Hornet in high AoA is such an iconic sound. If the Stuka siren is the stereotypical sound of a dive then I think that the sound of the Hornet in tight turns is becoming the icon of a dogfight

I have been very disjointed about this but I am adamant in my quest to see a spitfire vs p-51 dogfight. I think it would be really cool to see the ww2 planes fight. Also great video growling. Keep it up
Spitfire would most likely have the advantage.
@@9999AWC I think the mustang has to try to stay fast and not get sucked into an agressive turn fight, it can build energy and climb better and has better guns for long range shooting. The spitfire has to play the mustangs speed against it and use its better turn performance to get the mustang low and slow where it will outperform. Just my opinion anyway.

The hornet’s gotta be one of the only 4 gen fighters that could pull off those turns at those speeds for that amount of time
Several of the Sukhois can do it too, particularly the derivatives of the Su-27. The F-16 might be able to (but won't be happy about it).
Otherwise though, you're right; there don't seem to be that many that can.

Doesn't differential thrust have more impact the further the two engines are separated from each other? If so, the Hornet's effect would be minimal at best.
Yes that’s one of the reasons why it’s not as effective on the hornet.

Simply a terrific series of gunfights in this video. I had to replay several moments, it was a couple of great pilots and planes
It’s a blast to work w f18s and f35s to watch how much raw power their engines have and launching them
I think a lot of people forget that the Hornets are a multi-role fighter and for that it holds its own EXTREMELY well for it being one against other fighter aircraft

I suspect that the F-14 & F-15 can make good use of differential thrust due to the spatial separation of the engines, which, on the FA-18, is so much less.
Knowing Iranian pilots, they'd love just having new birds to fly. Couple frogfoots have been used, but these would be new to them.

The wight smoke in the last round might have been his thrustvector controll unit or something. On the closeup you can clearly see how the gimbal of his left engine is compleatly to the left. Might have been the reason for him loosing control
Been a while i could watch DCS content, damn i love it when a Hornet and a Flanker duke it out.. and god the howl the Hornet makes at certain angles like the external shots in rounds 2-4, love that too!

In the last fight, it looked like the Flanker's left AB was out right at the moment you shot him. I wonder if he was trying a differential thrust move with flight controls off and it departed right as you shot him, then you caused enough damage that he wasn't able to recover it.

Thinking about the design of the airframe, the SU-35 would probably be a better aircraft. The additional canards of the SU-30 may have offered some benefits but not enough for the original airframe.
All in all a great vid.
Is there an F9F Panther in DCS? If so, I’d love to see if Growling Sidewinder could match Navel Aviator Royce Williams when he took on four MIG-15 fighters on November 18th, 1952.

I see you use flaps in some scenarios. When do you use them? At what speeds? At what turns? Could you do a video series on how to dogfight with each aircraft? Like what speeds to be at for each type of turn? I understand for rate fight but what speed for 1 circle? 1 circle vertical as in pitched up relative to the ground? Vertical as in straight up turn?Split S?
in this fight ? the flaps of the hornet deploy automatically pilot doesn't do anything. Other aircraft are different, The F-14 likes flaps down at the price of jamming it, other aircraft don't use flap until below a certain speed, it's really all different and affects all the aircraft differently.

in airshow footage, the sukhois in general and the su 35 in particular tends to carry a heavy missile (probably an r27) on the between engine rear pylon. I have not seen confirmation of this but if i remember my controls class correctly this should make the aircraft slightly more unstable and thus permit better maneuverability. I was wondering if you could try it in one of those fights and see if it makes a difference?

Whooaaa the Su-35 is so pretty in the Asia Minor livery.
This fight gives me nostalgia from the Battlefield 3 mission Going Hunting. It just so happens that you fly an F/A-18 Hornet into Iran on a strike mission and you get vectored to intercept bogeys which turns out to be Iranian Su-35s (even though the objective called them MiGs for some reason). Great fight though.
Not to be that guy, but the plane in BF3 is a Super Hornet.
