    Thank you for the very thorough, basic explanation of how these work. I like how slowly you talk when explaining, it gives me time to soak up what you're saying.

  • @SteveHacker

    Does an SCR therefore behave similarly to a triode vacuum tube, where, instead of a gate controlling the flow, there is a GRID controlling electron flow?

    • @AllAmericanFiveRadio
      @AllAmericanFiveRadio  9 місяців тому +1

      An SCR is ON/OFF device. The triode grid controls the electron flow to the plate. Here is a video that may help.

    Rick, Thanks. I agree another great video. My question is the same as Swarf Rat and maybe some others. The two scr's together looks like a triac. Is this how a triac works? I'll check your other video's. You may already have one on triacs.

    • @AllAmericanFiveRadio

      Yes this is like a Triac, but with two Gates. Search for Duty Cycle, there is a Triac in the dimmer switch.

    • @AllAmericanFiveRadio

      In the high 90 percentile efficient. Usually this configuration is used to vary the duty cycle.

    am i right in saying that this diagram is basically converting A/C in to D/C when both scr's are switched on thus using the full wave on the oscilloscope. great job once more.

    • @AllAmericanFiveRadio
      @AllAmericanFiveRadio  10 років тому +1

      Kevin Brain The circuit is controlling AC. One SCR
      is controlling one half cycle of AC and the other SCR is controlling
      the other half of the AC. Our another words one SCR is controlling
      the positive cycle of AC and the other SCR is controlling the
      negative cycle of AC. You might want to watch another video of mine

    Have you ever worked with the old Ford Lincoln Mercury Sequential turn signals?
    After 1969 they started using SCR's in the sequencer box, I am having a hard time finding the wiring...
    I think the "flasher"/Large Cap in turn signal circuit creates a switched DC, they use to trigger the SCR, do you have any experience with that use?
    Just basic theory of triggering with switched DC would help...

    Cómo calculas el valor de las resistencias del gate

    • @AllAmericanFiveRadio
      @AllAmericanFiveRadio  2 роки тому

      I am using a C228B2 as an example.
      Download the datasheet pdf.
      First thing is you have to know the voltage you have that is going to be used to drive the gate.
      Looking at the data sheet I would use MAX 40 ma and MAX 2.5, must not exceed this.
      MIN gate voltage to drive the gate is 0.2 volts.
      Now use Ohms Law to calculate the ohms that well not exceed MAX but a little over MIN gate voltage.

    Hello Dear Sir, I am having a difficult time understanding a DIY design for a CDI for my motorized bicycle. There is no trigger used with the magneto. Here is the diagram
    motorbicycling.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37422&d=1308870564
    The circuit uses an SCR. I would love to know how the circuit works. Thanks for all of your excellent tutorials.

      @AllAmericanFiveRadio  10 років тому

      I would need more in formation. This is just part of the circuit. Can you supply the manufacturer and part number of the CDI? And the motor manufacturer and part number? If I can get the manufacturer information from the manufacturer I'll try and make a video.

      AllAmericanFiveRadio
      The blue wire comes from the magneto. The black wire goes to ground. The green wire goes to the ignition coil and from the ignition coil to the spark plug. This is the entire circuit. All of this information comes from the thread at motorbicycling.com "Roll Your own CDI" Here is the link to the page
      motorbicycling.com/showthread.php?t=28439
      The meat is from page 3 to page 5.
