  • In this video, I will try to explain you the structure and working principle of thyristors used in fast switching duty in power electronics circuits. Thyristors are made up of four semiconductors of type P and type N. Thyristors are abbreviated as SCR, which is the initials of the words Silicon Controlled Rectifier.

    I don't know if the current passing through the SCR depends on the trigger current. For instance, if I trigger the gate with a higher current, the current passing through the SCR will increase.

    Hello dear friend I wanted you to answer my question Are you sure that by connecting the other two pins of the thyristor to each other, the circuit will be opened again as a switch and the lamp will be turned off?

    • @eeapplications
      @eeapplications  2 роки тому +1

      Hi dear friend. When we short-circuit the other two pins, the thyristor becomes open-circuited. After the thyristor is open circuit, we already take our hands off the button. So we don't make short circuits all the time. I hope that has been revealing.

  • @wissamstephan6874
    @wissamstephan6874 Рік тому

    but how when we released the hand from the switch the lamp still light up we consider the thyristor as a PNPN so with no current in the gate one the PN precisely the middle PN will block the current how's that

    • @augustussinclair1626
      @augustussinclair1626 Рік тому

      i believe that it's due to a concept called _gate triggering_ which works by injecting electrons into the 2nd p zone (so, pnPn - the uppercase p here) and thereby gradually turning it into a third n zone (aka turning the structure into pNNN) which is basically by diminishing its depletion region. that's how you basically get a forward-biased diode out of a thyristor.
      keep in mind that i could very much be wrong, i'm watching these videos to learn about thryistors myself lol

    • @eeapplications

      Yes, the working logic of the thyristor is slightly different from the transistors 👍

    • @mikek1187
      @mikek1187 Рік тому +1

      MOSFETS can't hold the drain and source open once the gate current is gone. Thyristors are essentially a solid-state self-latching relay, hence the need to break the connection by shorting it. Thyristors are used in "crowbar" circuits because they can handle such high amperages. Placed near the exit point of a power supply voltage circuit, in conjunction with a zener diode and resistor, a thyristor can shunt current back to a fuse, preventing any sensitive components from being destroyed, in the event of an electrical issue. It's a shame we don't see more crowbar circuits in electronics today, as fuses tend to survive the sensitive electronics more times than not.
