The world is less without you Leslie singing you tunes! You were so magical all your life, I loved the bus in 1963! You won my heart! Miss you all these years, but still play your music!
I always knew Lesley & her brother Michael wrote this heavenly song that I've loved since I heard Irene Cara sing it so beautifully, but I'd never heard Ms Gore sing it & accompany herself on the piano . I literally had to hold back my tears watching, listening & reflecting on her & how this dearest angel was taken from all of us much too soon. Rest in Peace - xo.
@JJ McCartney Her voice was always amazing, but this specific time in her career was the best! I've often wondered how different things would have been if the doggone "British Invasion" had stayed in England!
I was 12 when Lesley hit it big with "It's My Party" in 1963. I bought every one of her Mercury albums as they were being released, and I still love them as much as ever on CD today as I did back then. Good music is forever. Lesley made sure of that!
So true, and she only improved with age! To think that in the 70's Helen Reddy had a tenth of Lesley's talent yet got ten times the recognition! "Someplace Else Now" and "Love Me By Name" were, in my opinion, Lesley's best albums, yet they bombed; and so Lesley constantly had to sing "It's My Party", "That's the Way Boys Are" and the like just to "Keep the Customers Satisfied". A reviewer of one of hers shows in the late 70's (I think, possibly early 80's) said that her best numbers were the new songs she wrote herself but then finished the article by saying she was "good from the nostalgia point of view at least"! Only this year is Lesley finally getting inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame which was long overdue, but I will not be content until she claims her rightful place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an institution which quite frankly has no credibility until Ms. Gore is inducted!
Wonderful. I`m still catching up with her after being blown away with California Nights on batman..remember it well..so Quincy Jones..no real surprises
Not positive, but believe this is from the early to mid 80's. Lesley's lyrics are timeless and beautiful and I think your observations are most likely true.
Along with Dylan (of course) and Rhett Miller/Old 97's I have been obsessed with Lesley Gore from her beginnings. A very weak voice which actually improved with age, when Quincy Jones was asked to comment on her talent he was reduced to noting her "perfect pitch". Don't care. Her pure pop material combined with a voice that has enchanted me since I bought her first album upon release. So many underrated songs: currently have got on loop "What Am I Gonna to Do With You".
Interestingly, Skeeter Davis (who was once married to Ralph Emery) had also recorded “What Am I Gonna Do With You”. Both ladies did a fantastic job with this almost forgotten, underrated song.
She's awesome, I am a concert pianist and I feature her music on my channel, "You don't own me". Put Maurice Daugherty Lesly Gore in UA-cam search. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for posting this. Does anyone know what year this was? First time I have heard Out Here On My Own, fabulous! Can't help but think it is one she wrote about herself and her circumstances.
her voice is beautiful but i wonder if after she had her nose done if the smaller narrower size affected her singing, maybe making it a little deeper. Also i noticed that she doesn't have the iconic way of singing out of the corner of her mouth. I liked that, and her original nose. Beautiful as she was in my opinion. A different beauty here
when was this recorded? She was talking about writing and recording a new album but wouldn't that have been Ever Since? I'm curious because that was released in 2005... but I assumed this video was from years before that? but maybe not? idk but she slays every time
Live special talent . A magical performance.
Just found out what a gem she is and never known she is the writer of the this beautiful song OOMO. Same as Its my party, Love them all

So talented and gone too soon. Lesley was so under appreciated as a singer, songwriter. RIP
She sang Out Here On My Own beautifully. That was a phenomenal performance.
I absolutely agree. I think she was fantastic

Has to be one of the best Lesley Gore performances of Out Here On My Own. Absolutely fabulous. Her voice has never sounded better.

She slayed. She was ripped at the oscars.

What a great find!!!
Love her.
Real music here.
Imagine being gay, at her age, during the 60s.
Courageous, Girl Power and beautiful. Quincy Jones was her vocal producer.

i agree she seemed to be singing this song for herself and maybe someone special
@@retrowayne The song was nominated for an Oscar in 1980 so I'm pretty sure she sang it on this show that same year or the following year.

This aired in 1988. I am the one who taped it and made it available to the fan club members. Her legacy must be preserved

Might have had more to do with her pack a day cigarette habit.
Me parece estar escuchando a los Beatles, siendo entrevistados, en la forma de hablar
First saw and her onAmerican Bandstand, Phi

I'm guessing mid to late 80's.
