Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
    0:00 - Intro
    1. 0:10 {The Chosen’s New Book} Did The Chosen make their own Gospel?
    2. 29:00 {Our Attitude when God Works Through Us} Is it sinful for a Christian to be pleased when God enables them to do a good work (Isaiah 64:6, Galatians 6:4)?
    3. 34:27 {Is YHWH Biased?} How do we know YHWH isn't just BIASED with His Word (as one would be in any form of competition), when God says "There is no other, beside Me there is no God" in Isaiah 45:5 or "I know not any" in Isaiah 44:8?
    4. 43:27 {Did Christ Become the HS?} Does 1 Corinthians 15: 45 mean that Christ became the Holy Spirit? I was taught this growing up, but it seems like Modalism to me now. I can’t break from this reading of the verse since I left that group.
    5. 54:30 {How to Love Your Neighbor As Yourself} What does it mean to love your neighbor as yourself? Do I put their needs equal to mine, or above mine?
    6. 58:48 {Are Believers “Priests”?} What are the implications of believers being called to be "A Holy Priesthood" (1 Peter 2:5)? Does this mean we need to view ourselves as priests?
    7. 1:04:00 {Typology = Eisegesis?} Is it eisegesis to interpret the Old Testament as depicting Jesus? I commonly hear this objection from Jews who say Christians are "inserting their theology into our book."
    8. 1:10:29 {Tongues = Vain Repetition?} Would it be fair to consider the way some churches use tongues in opposition to 1 Corinthians 14 as a form of "vain repetition" (Matthew 6:5-8)?
    9. 1:19:23 {How to Know if We Should Marry Someone} What are some biblical ways to help you decide if you should marry someone?
    10. 1:24:24 {Why Evangelize?} Why should we evangelize, other than because God tells us to? If it would be God's will for someone to hear about Him, wouldn't God's will happen anyway? And based on Matthew 10: 14-15, wouldn’t they be worse off?

The bigger disagreement i have is Mikes complete marriage to a type of weak foundational thinking. This level of thinking excludes much of scripture thus leaning on a type of surface milk theology. Very A-systematic. As a pastor he seems more like an Olstein personality than a Shepard of a flock. my suggestion is He needs to do more "theologically rooted" dialogue in scripture with others publicly of opposite views. not hiding "behind" a microphone in isolation. He needs to branch out his theology and poke holes live or at least ask questions live. Any well-read reformer of scripture can poke hundreds of holes in this thinking.
For example - Gods work through us is not us cooperating with God. Gods work in and through us while we work out our salvation is independent and non-dependent of our effort. He causes obedience. he does not wait on our obedience. God finishes us in his work. Galatians 6 is speaking in terms of those churches and what they suffered relative to leaving Christ and returning to the law. Those that didn't can REJOICE. The work for the Lord here in Galatians is a SPICIFIC CONTEXTUAL work of a specific NATURE. And further, its not a work of will but of "who does this work". The one believing, the one who does not walk in darkness. In Christ its not a matter of IF you will do good works. Its a matter of If you are in Christ you WILL do those good works PREPAIRED before time that YOU WALK IN THEM. - That is scripture buddy. Your presentation washes this down man.
Tongues are not babblings nor incoherent except to an unbeliever. Tongues are the single utterance to a mass of diverse language's that all hear from your singular known language. Thats Acts 2. that's Exegesis.
Most of your entire theological basis is "well this makes sense and this does not" with some seasoned pre-suppositional thinking type attitude while ignoring history, exegesis and context of localized meanings. The single Biggest issue with you Brother Mike is you take scripture as a per-capita measure. Scriptures singular verses need to expand into multiple meanings outside its intended context as if it were poetic symbolism. Your surface reading of scripture limits your scope and binds your ability to "see" the depth of scripture.
i mean this with love. You are a brother in Christ. Im a "no body" behind a keyboard lol. But im happy to dialogue with you privately or even publicly on just general exegesis. Not to win arguments or positions but to enjoy the bible with a brother in Christ. It could even be fun to try and convince each other and learn something new.

The fact that the Holy Spirit inspired four gospels and not one is something to rejoice in. The four perspectives are like the facets of a diamond each reflecting the glory of God in a different way.
I'm currently teaching through Mark and I've had the joy of seeing two former Buddhists come to the Lord. I wouldn't dream of suggesting this blended gospel and they wouldn't want it. They are really seeking truth. And, they have enjoyed studying the context and looking for the themes of Mark. I'm more grateful than I can say that this blended gospel didn't fall into their hands first.

@@HiHoSilvey Can you imagine their confusion if they first read the blended text, then the actual text? It's hard for new believers to understand to begin, let alone chopping up the different gospels and trying to make them fit... so much lost in the process. Praise Jesus on the two coming to Christ!

As Mike said, I don't think it's an ideal way to read Scripture because you miss so much when read in this way.
I do believe it's good however, that it may get some people to read the gospels where they might not have read a Bible at all.
In a similar way, I'm grateful for The Chosen series as it got my mother to become interested in Jesus after over 20 years praying for her (she was into New Age). She became so interested, that she has begun reading the Bible and asking many questions. I could see her reading this blended Bible initially as it doesn't seem so overwhelming.

    • @HiHoSilvey
      @HiHoSilvey 3 дні тому +4

@@chriper77 That's wonderful that God answered your prayers after twenty years! I'm curious though why your Mom simply can't read the Gospel of Mark. It would be far less confusing (and shorter) without tampering with God's order. The beauty of Mark is how quickly it moves and allows the reader to easily see the great themes of the Kingdom and who Jesus is. Your mom would miss out on what the Lord wants her to learn. Taken individually, the gospels are not overwhelming. I can only imagine how mind-boggling it would be to try to pick up the thread of the story with loads of details out of context.

    • @chriper77
      @chriper77 3 дні тому +6

@@HiHoSilvey In my mum's case, she actually is reading directly from the Bible because I downloaded it onto her phone and computer :) My point is only that she was so interested in the series, that she, and others, would be more likely to read something in this format first. As it is, she is tending to get lost with the length of the Bible if I'm not there to guide her.
I think it's possibly a good introduction to get people reading the Gospels. Most would hopefully move onto wanting more.
I do agree with you though. I think it would have been better if The Chosen had released maybe a day by day study of just one of the Gospels as opposed to using a blended version

@@AliceSusanHarding My sister, I really hope you were joking. It's like telling someone who's going to Bible school that they are idolatrous for looking forward to a class. Or like telling someone who's looking forward to hear their pastor preach on Sunday that they are idolatrous. This is ridiculous.
It's not idolatry to enjoy content and look forward to it. You don't know what this person is going through, you don't know this person's ability to understand scripture, you don't know where they are at in their spiritual walk.
I absolutely loved Mike's content as a younger believer because his content helped me understand scripture like I never had before. As a mature Christian, I love his content because it is challenging, it's pushing me to make my own research, dig deeper and enjoy doing it. His passion for the Word of God is contagious! It is encouraging, and it has been for me in low moments in my faith journey.

Yeah that first season was great. I understood it was entertainment, not actual scripture, but season 3 had some questionable things and season 4 I had to stop watching. They had a whole episode legitimizing the gnostic gospel of Mary. They also made up a whole episode that never occurred in scripture. It actually made Jesus more cruel than the real Jesus. They took too much creative license. I will continue to rewatch seasons 1 and 2, because I own the dvds, but I won't continue to watch any further seasons.

I personally don't remember any episodes where I saw Jesus being cruel. However if it's the episode I'm thinking it might be If like to remind you that Jesus didn't spend his time on earth going from funeral to funerals, and that he only healed one person at the pool of Bethesda. If he raised everyone from the dead I doubt anyone would be crying crucify about him. Unfortunately because of people of the times expectations there was a reason why people were told to keep their by healing by him secret. And why do he raised Lazarus from the dead in a public way a week before his crucifixion. People's reaction including the religious leaders of the time show why He did this.

@@Loulizabeth season 4 the episode where Matthew comes to where Mary is hiding and asks if she is writing a gospel as well. And yes when the fiancé is murdered by a Roman and Jesus doesn't heal her. First off not even a thing that happened in scripture. I am ok with some play on events like dialogue, but that went too far for me. The last straw was the next episode where Matthew asks is Mary was writing a gospel as well and she says she is writing from her view and they leave it at that. That in itself the writers are trying to legitimize the book. It's also the very book the LGBT community has been pushing to legitimize because there is a verse in it that they feel legitimize them changing genders. I enjoyed the first 2 seasons. Season 3 was not well written I bowed out half way through season 4.

God draws us in so many ways. My catalyst was The Chosen. My dad died in 2022 and I had participated in Grief Share. I started being more aware of God but I wasn't in the Word daily. I was introduced to The Chosen last year and opened up the Bible, reading the Gospels. Over the past year, I've joined a local church and an online church. I have 2 more bibles in the home. I pray daily, I pray and fellowship with others daily, I participate in women's bible study at my church, I also participate in 3 online studies - John, basics, and Proverbs 31. When I saw Season 4 of The Chosen, I read the Gospels again and corresponding scriptures. It may seem "weak" that it took a TV show to ignite the fire and I wrestled with that. But I'm a movie & tv watcher. I'm a music listener. He moved a lot out of the way for me to begin my true journey (not just lip service) and I still didn't take the hint. Now I am awake, knowing I need to empty myself of self and the world. I'd never been aware of that, or how to do that. What a difference my life has been with the Word - God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. God continues to be patient and I am so grateful He never gave up on me. All thanks and Glory be to God! Ps. It's also opened up my heart to Judaism, as the Torah is a part of the Bible that we read.

I’d be curious what you mean by the Judaism bit.. Judaism is the dead, empty carcass left over from the outward showings which were pictures of Christ and His work. It is empty because it rejects Christ. Galatians and Romans are great epistles to read on this. There is no salvation outside of Christ, and therefore there is no salvation in Judaism. If you try to come to God through the Law, you will be dealt with through the Law, rather than by Grace.
Please be mindful of that. The false teachers which Paul speaks of in Galatians are alive today in the form of Torah observant Christians, and they are, “subverting whole houses” to divide their trust between circumcision and Christ.

It’s not harmful per se, it’s still milk. But it is not the best kind, it is not as nourishing or optimal for promoting the growth of a believer. If we have access to the real thing, why drink this? Because “The Chosen” is emblazoned on the cover? To me, there is something wrong with that. I will not burden anyone who does read it and likes the show, but I sense something “wrong,” for the lack of a better term. The Chosen is a telling of the story of Jesus I liked very much. It is an attempt to show that there was more to the life and times of Jesus than just the roughly two weeks worth of narrative we have in the Gospels. There is a fair amount of poetic license to be sure, but as much as the fill in's are purely fictional, it shows that there was much more of the day to day mundane in the 3 years of Jesus ministry. Much of it extra biblical of course, but it really helps you "see" what the actual disciples lives might have been like and adds such a richness to the actual text.
My son was 14 when we started to binge watching the show during the covid lockdown and he loved it just as much as I did. The story of Nicodemus and John the Baptist was his favorite. We'd talk about the episodes and then look up references in the Bible. Really sweet memories I will cherish forever.
Now he's about to turn 19 and still watches new episodes with me, but most importantly he is still reading his Bible. I know this is the goal of Dallas Jenkins, to point you towards actual scripture and it did that for both of us.

To me, it will never be a "safe" book. Context matters immensely in any piece of writing. When you take the Bible and cut it up and rearrange it, especially without referencing which verses you are using, you greatly change the context that God intended when He purposefully arranged the scriptures the way He did. The way a piece of writing is arranged can contain its own message, built into the underlying structure. Structure in some ways is like spotlights on a stage, directing the attention to the most important points and themes without saying a word. This is s terrible thing they have done. It's disturbing that so many Christians can't see this for what it is: an adulteration of God's Word.

Mike, Mike, Mike. You are right, many people who love the Chosen have not read the Bible. the Chosen very boldly says the show is not the Bible it is to direct you to the Bible. While all of the draw backs you mention are true for those of us who love the Bible, who have been reading it and studying it for years will notice those things, I don't think this book is meant for us. And I don't think the audience this book is written for, those who have not read the Bible, or at least those who are not familiar with it will notice. Nor do I think that audience would understand the nuances you mentioned even if they read the gospels individually and in order. To me it's more like watching a movie adapted from a novel that necessarily cuts out much of the story. One knows the story, but not necessarily all of the nuances of the story. I do think those nuances are important in the gospels, but I think the point of this book is to familiarize the readers with the gospel story and how amazing it is hoping to whet their appetite for reading all of the gospels individually. And while I agree that the Bible is inspired, perhaps even inspired in a certain order of words, I think that point loses its importance knowing that the books includeded, the order in which they are included, and their translation from languages whose words can often only be approximated, and whose syntax is very different from that of English. All of that being said, let me say this, Thank you for dispelling all of the crazy rumors about this book. The Chosen has helped me to reconcile with Jesus, a story too long to tell here, so I know and treasure that it can and has helped many others.

I might have missed part of this in the introduction as there are always so many interruptions in real life when I try to watch your videos.
I agree with your introduction and positives on this since so many people do watch it and may not read the Bible, this is a good way to get them to get actual versus without the fiction part of the historical fiction that they might not otherwise get.
I think it would be a good idea if it would be considered a primer. That word seems to be some thing from the early 1900s as the beginning of elementary school education they had their primer. And the primer basically would give enough information to spark your curiosity to get the whole thing and learn more as you go along.
So even though I was not happy with so many liberties taken during this show as it progressed, the Chosen, I do appreciate that it will help a lot of people value that common every day people with lots of issues can come together and make the world a better place through their faith and belief in Jesus. My biggest concern was people wouldn’t read the Bible. This I think would be the next step into getting actual Bible verses of the gospel, even though cut and pasted, and hopefully lead them to the next step of serious studies.

I have this book. For each day there is a scripture index in the back of the book that tells you where all of the scriptures came from that are used for that day. Each day's reading is a few pages long, list topical headings. You can go to the back of the book to the index to see what scriptures are actually being quoted.
In the introduction by Steve Laube, he says this:
"The text of the four Gospels, in their entirety, is the basis of this book without repeating identical parallel sentences. This work is not intended to replace the scripture as presented in their original form. In fact, there is an index in the back of the book for each of the sections as an encouragement for the reader to look further into the text itself."
I have utilize this feature quite a bit as I have read through the book. I have really enjoyed looking these up in their original context, and it has definitely encouraged me to read my Bible.

It is because there are too many, highly vocal, Christian keyboard warriors who are self satisfied by critizing and ridiculing other people's callings and ministries if they don't fit into a conventional box.
To them unconventional means there is something automatically wrong with it. So they take any fault with the work and make a storm out of a teacup, instead of showing the kind of grace that the Lord shows us in our weaknesses.
Is the show perfect? Obviously not, and neither is any other piece of Christian art. Does that mean we should not have Christian art? I think compelling Christian art is evangelistic in its nature and should be encouraged as it is more accessible to someone who has only heard all the slander and lies about Christianity.
I think online Christians would be better off dropping the sanctimonious "well if it is not literally reading your Bible, it is leading people astray", and rather having the attitude that “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you.” Luke 9:50

It gets tricky in some passages that may or may not be recounting the same event, large sections in John that deal with theology not seen in other gospels, etc. I just eventually came down with recommending Mark for a fast moving short account, John for some deep revelation not addressed in the other gospels. Ultimately read all of it, they're separated for a reason and probably should be read as we received them: Four accounts, each written as intended

I suspect this is why the Qur'an refers to the gospels in the singular as, _The Gospel._ Even though the Nestorians did shift away from it to identify with the Roman world more easily, it still held out. In like the 1200's, a Nestorian monk translated it from Syriac into Arabic, that's how popular it was even 700 years after they started shifting away from it.

You don’t have to watch the program to realize they are teaching a false Jesus. Dallas Jenkins is endorsing the Mormons when he says they worship the same Jesus as we do. Very few people will read this book. It’s the show that is dangerous. Why do you think that Mormons love this program? They may never come to Jesus because of this program because of Dallas saying they worship the same Jesus. The time you spend here could be used to expose this blasphemous program.

The biggest problems is making Jesus a crybaby where he cries on Mary's shoulder, he needs Matthew to finish his "sermon on the mount" , he won't heal one of his disciples Matthew for some reason , he won't heal others, and his divinity is decreased to make his humanity so relatable to everybody else that it creates a funny caricature of Jesus who's too goofy. I'm serious. Also Dallas Jenkins said that his mormon friends believe in the same Jesus as Christians! Which is total blasphemy.
I Also just RELEASED A VIDEO HERE ON MY CHANNEL before Mike's video where I GO OVER THE CHOSEN BIBLE and show you more information that Mike didn't have time to get into!

Regarding our involvement with evangelizing to others: Good doesn't need our help, but He asks for it. It's a privilege and honor to be invited by our creator to help in the creation. This is what we do when we have children, care for the planet, and spread the truth about Christ to others. One could insist that since He has chosen you to be His you should pay back the favor to others, but really it is honoring to Him to be a part of inviting others to His gift of salvation.

The Chosen blended Gospel isn't meant for the audience watching your teaching. It's meant for those that wouldn't pick up the Bible on their own. If you ever watch Dallas Jenkins and his comments...he'll tell you that The Chosen is a TV show. It's meant to entertain. I think they've done a GREAT job at telling the story of Jesus. If The Chosen causes someone to pick up their Bible (either through the show or the Gospel book), then it's a good thing. Mike, You said there was a time that this book would be exactly what you would want. I'll never read four Gospels. Why do we have four? And the end result is that they never get read. P.S. I loved your teaching on Mark.

@@chellejack3480It seems to be the one that, although Creator, needs help from a creature to help write a sermon. One who contradicts Jer.17:9, Proverbs 28:26, Matt.15:19 by asking Nicodemus, "What does your heart tell you?" Doesn't look like the "authentic" Jesus that Dallas Jenkins repeatedly states that he is portraying.

@carolhimes Yeah, I quit watching The Chosen a couple season's in, I figured it out. There was occult symbolism in it and hand signals, and a lot of trannies in that show. But the average person can't see it. Apparently, I'm not the average person because I could see it all. Did it pull on my heartstrings at times? Sure it did, just like the movies in Hollywood do. There's so much more to say about this series, but it's too much for a comment section of youtube. Any of you can go out onto youtube and look at the breakdown of what's being taught and reviews of why that show is not biblical. Check it out.

Dont think thats the intention, as much as making it accessible to people who wouldn’t ordinarily give Christian stuff a 2nd look. I dont watch the series but dont fault people who get something out of it. I watched and read a lot of things you guys would be flipping out about when i was younger, but they drew me to God and made me more curious. All these decades later, here i am, loving God. Some of you commenters are so judgemental, i mean HARSH! You seriously need to pray for people , be gentle and encouraging them to the truth……and trust God to be able to get the job done through means all His own.

    • @mable552

@@user-ph6yh4hs9z well, I appreciate your thoughts and am happy you are a believer. But it's not those books that drew you to God. Scripture says it is the Father that draws us to Christ. So, let's not try to make good out if things that maybe are not. Fir sure God can bring out of bad things, but we are still accountable and will have to answer for every word and deed done. Sobering. As for this topic, Scripture is inspired by God through the Holy Spirit, when we try to improve on it by condensing (adding to, taking away) or taking verses out of context, in this case, we will miss God's intentions in saying what He said. Let that sink in, scripture is God's word, why would you want to change it in any way. Let it be... so you can get the fullest from it. And, in this case God write 4 gospels for a reason, can we trust it was a good reason, dare I say, the best way, compiling them in 1 does not improve on God's word. Just my opinion.
