was going to buy this car today but thanks to your video and all that has to be done to take out the simple alternator that on the 6 cylinder takes 5 minutes without removing anything but the belt i wouldnt take the lucerne super northstar 8 cylinder engine even if they paid me to drive it!!!!!!!!!

Northstar and baby star engines take 4 times longer to do basic repairs over any other GM engine, water pumps, starters, alternators, AC pumps, and don't get me started on bottom end oil leaks. These engines are very high maintenance and should be avoided if you are not into the extra work required in owning one. Cadillac retired them in 2011

I'm still in absolute amazement that someone would design a car that requires the entire front end be disassembled to change a part that goes bad fairly regularly. Unbelievable!!

Why have you got a big HEIC BLUE SQUARE blocking out the video. So annoying trying to see everything.

Hahah that’s the easy way to change the Alternator. don’t forget to tighten the license plate so it will put out 13.4 V

Just curious, what would someone charge to do this job? I'm thinking about $6000.00 is fair.

its easier to work on a tank or a battle ship engine shame on GM such a powerful engine with such a poor repair design worst than mercedes

Just a FYI It is NOT LEGAL to vent your ac system to the air. You can be reported to the EPA and fined or jailed for doing so. DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO

You do not have to do all that. You clearly should not be putting out informational videos dude. The alternator is right on top. You take off the engine cover and Tada there it is.

On the v6, yes it’s right on top, on the Northstar POS v8 it’s on the bottom and this is the best way to do it. You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. One google search, and Tada your answers right there

You shouldn't be commenting from a position of complete ignorance on topics, especially when you clearly can't read the caption. Thats on a 3.8L which has been that way for GMs 3800 V6s for decades. Not the same as the NorthStar by a longshot.

@@marcsmith3881 You still don't have to do all of that. We did the alternator on my friend's northstar buick a few years ago and it just takes finding the magic wiggle space to get it out.
