Thanks I appreciate it 😎, Once I had a piece that was so unbalanced that I almost turned my lathe over and the thought to balance the weight like that popped into my head and that seems to work pretty good, been centering the heavy pieces like that ever since then.
Thanks! That thing warped like crazy I was gonna throw it away but Decided to try to salvage it so wife did some epoxy work on it I still haven’t put a finish on it though.
Don't you just love when piece warps when you don't want it too. I should get out in the shop, I have two pieces I have to fill in as well. I'm thinking of using two part epoxy and mixing in crushed charcoal from the fireplace to make it black.
Yep and it opened up a crater in the process I forgot to tell ya that part 😅 2 part epoxy is good and charcoal is to I’ve mixed it into it before it makes a nice black color, my wife bought a bag of charcoal powder is already grounded up very fine.
Red Oak, of course that covers dozens of separate species, but its Red Oak, and that stuff warps like nothing else. I cut up a gnarly one back behind my place and found all these pieces that I thought looked like treasure, and they are, but between the rot going through in the worst places, and the cracking and warping, I ended up with the sweetest set of cup holders, and a wall clock that looks pretty darn cool. Its all good in the end, working on this kind of stuff keeps my noisy brain occupied. Howdy from Minnesota.
Yes turning half rotten wood can be a little tricky, but you did well with what you had, looks pretty good, maybe you can go back to it someday, enjoyed your videos thanks, Gene Cooksey woodworking
Turning this log was a little risky 😁 One corner almost fly away. That's why it makes woodturning so interesting and beautiful 💪 Excellent work Kimsey. I have seen that grain before and I'm sure it is oak.
Ivan Bukh Thank you 😊 the thought came to me one day after I had the weight of the wood unbalanced and turned on the lathe and the lathe began to wobble and almost overturned the lathe into the floor 😵 then this thought 💭 came to me and I have been finding center of the weight on heavy peaces so the turning gos more smoothly 😀
I've noticed in many of these wood turning videos the wood is seemingly taken right out of the woods and turned without being set aside to dry out. I always thought you would dry them out first so they don't crack as bad.
I have cut chunks off to dry but from my experience the wood cracks through the peace all the way through sometimes if ya wait for it to dry first, if you cut the bowl blank out quarter sawn the wood has less stress and is not supposed to not crack as bad or maybe not at all.
69396chvy Yep I haven’t used the chuck a lot, when I first started turning I used it and kept breaking the tenons, I dunno what i was doing wrong, then I just started using the faceplate, I figured the screws probably wouldn’t hold in that wood it was kinda rotten towards the bottom, so I thought I better use the chuck, I think I’m gonna start trying to use the chuck more often its better about getting the bowl centered up.
I’ve thought about your comment and for some reason it makes me smile 😃 Lol its like Wow! I’ve got a few different ones that are not to nice but Thank you for your comment😀
Beautiful bowl buddy and i love the way you find a balanced center. Thanks for sharing

I have also used fire place charcoal they both are very good!
Awesome, def. going to try that then.
A beautiful piece of wood and bowl in spite of the problems
😊
Me gusta lo que haces. Hasta la musica es interesante. Gracias !!
Thank you very much 😊 I listen to lots of pieces of music trying to find the suitable tunes.
Very elegant way determining center of balance, Respect!
🤝Thanks man!

Nice!!! Howdy from Georgia! My dad used to make mantle clocks when I was growing up, I love clocks.
Настоящий художник. Пришёл, увидел трухлявый пенек, сделал красиво. Молодца.
Thank you for your comment, Can you translate to English?
Nice job. Thanks for the video. I learned something that I could use from it.
Thanks 😊, Thanks for watching!
Beautiful as always Kimsey!
Thanks Adam!!!
That is a brilliant idea with the bottle finding the center of balance! Going to use that myself from now on! Love the video!
Thanks 😊 and thanks for watching!

Thanks 😊 Yep it was a little risky 😬 I just had the urge to turn a bowl out of it, as the wood has aged it has some neat colors in it.
Прекрасный способ найти центр тяжести!!!! Спасибо!! Замечательные работы!!!!

I'll have to remember the balancing trick, to find centre of mass -
Very interesting....

First time I've seen you use the Chuck

Awesome job. New sub 👍
Brads Workbench Thanks!
Neat trick using a bottle to find the balance point!
Elizabeth Dennis Thanks!
Так четко вы работаете мне очень понравилось ваше сторанье 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
Nice job with the bottle 🍾 but remember don't drink and turn 🍷😲
😀 Thanks
nice work
NOON CRAFT Thanks!
Be a much better video if you took the music out. Better to hear tool sounds ONLY>
I’ve been thinking 🤔 about trying a video without music
Should have stabilized it with resin
I totally agree, I’ve gotta get one of those pressure pots.
It’s beautiful, my fruit bowl!😁
Thank you 😊,
I think ''almost rotten'' was a bit optimistic!
niklar55 😄
😢
Well it was ugly before you started turning it and after all your work it never improved
Well I enjoyed turning it, Thanks for watching.
