    I don't have the luxury of driving a little Volkswagen like this gentleman.
    My dad is teaching me to drive in a 1999 GMC Suburban with a 350 V8 in it. The car is huge and on top of that the engine lurches like it wants to eat the curb. If I pushed the pedals as hard as this guy I'd start off the line like a drag car and stop with my head beeping the horn.
    Be grateful you guys get to learn in your mom's Volvo or Kia lol.

    The best thing to do is first you release the clutch till you feel a movement thing press the gas slightly and release the less than a centimeter so that the friction plate will create a better friction and release the pedal when you feel both the friction plate are rotating at the same speed. It feels complecated but practice can make you perfect. BEST OF LUCK.

  • @Teenagefreedomfightr
    @Teenagefreedomfightr 15 років тому +2

    I've been driving a stick for all of 3 months now. It's pretty simple. Revving and "setting the gas" are the same thing. Higher RPM during clutch and into gear will inevitable wear your clutch and bit the teeth of your gear very harshly.

    So find the biting point, then look in all mirrors?

      Pushing the button when pulling the handle up does no damage to the handbrake system.

    • @collinslfc
      @collinslfc 9 років тому +1

      IIGrayfoxII This is just for beginners so they know how to find the biting point. Once you've had a few lessons they don't expect you to hold it on the biting point before checking mirrors.

    • @azacink
      @azacink 9 років тому +13

      IIGrayfoxII Lmao, just find the biting point, look at all mirrors, put the seat belt on and do other things and when you start smelling your clutch then you're ready to go!

    I'm not sure of the location of the majority of the users responding to this clip, but i can say that America surely could use this kind of information. Most people here in Texas are extremely over-zealous about their driving. Most are probably unaware of this simple technique. Great video.

    @ikilleduku in driving school i learned it that way: brake (no clutch pedal yet) and only if the car is going on low rpm (so that the car wont stall) then u press clutch
    but it wont make a difference actually, just the way you like it more.

  • @joelparker13
    @joelparker13 14 років тому

    @LastXdeth The clutch isn't just used in European cars its the pedal that is used when changing gears in a manual (stick) car. Pushing it down means that two plates are disconnected and therefore you can change gear without stalling the car or crunching the gears. Its the mean part of a real car.

    @se11001 If you're parking on a flat surface, it is not necessary to put in the gears. It is always a good habbit to use the handbrakes everytime you park.
    However, when parking on an inclined, it is always safe to park in a gear. When parking uphill, park in 1st gear. When parking downhill, use park in reverse gear.

    they forgot to say about it, but it was on :)
    any way, a bit creapy way to start, couse you dont have to rev up, to feel when the clutch bites, it starts even when you push the acspedal after the clutch is "on"... even when the road is slighty up, when you stop, you push the brakes, when you have to start put in 1st, let clutch bite, brakes off, the car stays in place and then you can rev up, clutch off, and bye bye... on a diesel car its much easyer, ive done it with getz 1.3 :)

    @ikilleduku If you know you need to stop. Judge the distance, put it neutral and simply brake w/o using the clutch. If its a redlight (and traffic permits) go to neutral and slowly come up to the redlight. It could turn green. When it does, match RPMs and shift into the necessary gear. Saves gas bc you keep momentum and dont fully stop

    @kaabidabar Not really, that's the best way to change gear.To shift into 3rd and 4th your hand should be on the top of the gear stick and to shift into 5th, it should be on the left side of the stick. It means that you're less likely to select the wrong gear.

  • @hobobastard
    @hobobastard 13 років тому

    @JDMxTurbo all depends how powerful your engine is, you may be able to do it in second or you may need to go back into first gear, but if you're still moving when you wanna start going again just hit the gas pedal lol if the car starts jumping/shuddering - clutch in - select lower gear - clutch to biting point - plenty of gas. Kind of lol

    i find newer cars to be alot more difficult because the clutch seems a lot stiffer. My dad teches me in his Fiesta ST which is kinda too fast for a learning car, and i find it very difficult. When teaches me in my mums Fiat Punto which is 8 years older, the clutch is smoother and softer so it is easier to set off smoothly rather than "kangarooing".
