I have obviously sold my soul to make audio porn. Thanks to Skylabs in IA for the loan.

- I have some amazing vintage gear in for review thanks to Kevin at Skylabs Vintage Audio in Des Moines. He was generous enough to loan me this lovely gear. I also have an Orchard Audio Starkrimson Ultra amp in and I am very much looking forward to that.
Don't forget to vote for which piece I should do first.

I can't wait to get started on these reviews. Remember vote and let me know which one I should review first. Vote here: ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxj0La2TO_FhBeMd1VEnBC73sleDKoauM5. Being from Chicago, we had an old saying at election time; "Vote Early and vote often."
Greetings Ed. Hello from the West Coast of Canada. I subscribed after learning about you on the roundtable discussion on Skylabs. Now I will enjoy 'back viewing' and catching up. I am an original owner of a Accuphase E202. (1975) A very fine piece of audio engineering and great sound. Just prior to Covid I had a total restoration of caps (including filter caps) and some transistors. I picked up a matching T101 Tuner off Canuck Audio Mart during Covid. The 2nd owner was unaware of the real value as I paid $500 CDN including shipping. Upon opening I discovered it had a very extensive restoration including an over the top power supply board recapping including diodes and resistors. The other boards were recapped using the famous Black Gate caps. Sweet sounding.
I have just started my listening this evening. So far it is has an effortless character. I looking forward this week with it. I will release a review is a few weeks. Thanks for checking out my channel and commenting.
Outstanding array Ed! Very much looking forward to the upcoming videos. Keep up the great work
Thank you sir. I appreciate it.
Ed! Looks like you’ve got a few weeks of fun to have, enjoy it! I’m voting for the pioneer, I had a friend who’s dad had one of those in the 80s. I was only around 10 years old but I still remember the black pioneer stereo that I’ve never seen since. Keep up the great work, I’m definitely looking forward to your next vid regardless of what piece wins.
Thank you my friend. I am looking forward to it. Fun & games.
Wow! First off, I really enjoy your videos and attitude. I’m super curious about the Accuphase…but will wait patiently to see all of your thoughts on this really interesting variety of gear! Thanks.
Thank you. If haven't already go vote for your choice. I appreciate your kind words. Thx.
The Accuphase is in the listening room as I type this. So far Wow!
I vote for the Pioneer to be first, that thing is gorgeous and I want to find out if it sounds the same!
Thanks for tuning in. Go to my community post and vote! The link is in the pinned comment.
I agree with John, YES PLEASE. I would love the Pioneer / Accuphase with history and revealing speakers. I also highly value your opinion/analysis of the class D Orchard Audio, but that is more "money trees" than the pure enjoyment value of the historical pieces and how they compare / contrast to today's systems like the EVO 150.
Thanks Chris. I will put them all through their paces and report back.
Definitely 'audio erotica'! Thank you and Skylabs for sharing this wonderful equipment with us all. I vote for the Pioneer first, please. Have a wonderful day, Sir.
Thank you sir. We will see how the voting goes.
I vote for the Braun 3-way speakers being reviewed first, my reason is that I have a pair of 2-way ADS L570/2's that I love and I am scheduled to pick up a pair of 3-way ADS L780/2's with 8.3" woofers the end of this month.
I haven't set up a schedule for the speakers yet. I will consider your suggestion. Thanks.
You’re in heaven my friend! Have fun. Wish we lived close so I could go and hear with you.
It's a long drive from DFW my friend. It would be fun.
Cool! I'm using a set of Wharfedale Diamond 8.4 speakers in my 7.1 setup. Same series center speaker + some smaller Wharfedale satellites. All driven by a Denon AVR-1912 amp.
That sounds like a good set up. I do love Wharfies. Thx for the view and comment.
I want to see a review of them all. The Pioneer is so pretty, and I'm a sucker for beautiful vintage gear, so the Pioneer. I have an HK 3370 in my living room system and I love that thing. I know you're a Harman Kardon guy like me.
You saw my 3370 didn't you? I had to borrow it from one of my boys to review. It will be coming up soon. Thanks.
Chef's choice. Looking forward to weeks (months?) of reviews.
That makes for two of us. Thanks for coming back for more.
The Schiit pre amp paired with the class D amp would be interesting.
Looking forward to the OA and the Freya!
I also am looking forward to that. Thanks Chad.
Can’t wait for the reviews. Pioneer then accuphase then orchard then freya. Wish you had a refurbished pair of AR 2ax to review
Me too! Thank you.
The Pioneer first and then the Accuphase.
I'd like to see a review on the Phase Linear. A few hundred watts a side sounds like fun. Have a nice day.
I think you mean the Accuphase? Thx.
@@OldGuyHifi Yes the Accuphase. I was just joking around. But any Phase Linear would be nice. Regards sir.
Just saw you on skylabs and checking out your channel. New subscriber.
Thanks for subbing. I do appreciate it.
Same here. New subscriber.
Thank you sir!
I’d like your opinion on the orchard audio starcrimson versus the Cambridge Evo 150 amp section, using the Cambridge as a preamp with the starcrimson. I’m curious how this equipment sounds at low volume levels, say 65 to 70 db range.
Done. I will do that combo. It will be a couple of weeks before that will happen. Great suggestion. Thank you.
I vote for the Accuphase!
Thanks for tuning in. Go to my community post and vote! The link is in the pinned comment.
I have the Accuphase E-202 and I love it.
@@59seank OOOH! I am jealous. Sweet.
I am in lust with that Pioneer!
Me too brother.
@@OldGuyHifi Back in 1980 I bought a Pioneer SX-3700 and had it hooked up to big Fisher D-12 speakers, ADC EQ, Teac tape deck, and a Technics Sl-1300 turnable with a Shibata stylus. I still have the receiver and turntable in excellent working condition. All my old first press LPs are still like brand new and still love to play them. What an era to grow up in (the 70s and 80s). The great thing about this now vintage equipment is that you can still use it and re-live so many great memories!
It is all about the pleasure it give us. That's it. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts.
My Vote - YES! Hope that helps 🤣
Thank you sir.
I just can't decide. I'll roll with whatever order you choose. With all of these great pieces, how can we lose?
I ran a poll on the community page and the Accuphase was the winner. I will be setting it up tomorrow. Should be fun. Thx.
I'll be watching!
Loved your views in the vid with Kevin from Skylabs, si I subscribed.
So that 5580 was 110V? I was surprised as it was directed towards the US Amy staff in Europe and in fact it has selectable voltage setting. I loved the PX. I'm Dutch myself. We used to have US neighbors all the time. The house next to us was rented by the USAF. We always connected very well with whomever did their tour and often we were invited to go shopping at the base. Late seventies my dad took that invitation very serious and got a full setup, with Technics SA-500 receiver, matching cassettedeck and a pair of HPM-100 speakers. The speakers I still own and just recently replaced the tweeters (with orginals) because I blew them once when I was a student.
So my vote goes to the Pioneer SX-5580, I am curious to find out how in your view this receiver holds up to current day amp tech. In my view, this is great stuff and makes listening to music FUN. It's about the experience.
Ewout, The unit is only 110V and not a switchable voltage. I was told that most US facilities ran 110V so that's why. That's a nice memory. Thanks so much for watching and sharing that.
@@OldGuyHifi Thanks for your reply. I'm surprised that even of the 5580 there were different versions. In the manual I see the instruction on how to replace the fuse and selector plug in the back, to set to 220V operation. On 110/120V it needs a 10A fuse, on 220/230V it needs 5A.
I guess they made a slightly cheaper version without universal transformer for the PX?
I always saw many 220V>110V transformers in the USAF houses, indeed there were quite some appliances they took with them. The US fridges always had me in awe, they were way too big for our Dutch kitchens 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But that memory made me reserve a bit more space when redecorating and now we have an American sized fridge too, partly because of that fond memory.
@@ewoutbuhler5217 I took a closer look and you are right about the voltage selector. Thank you for the correction. Sometimes I need to look closer.
@@OldGuyHifi great content, nonetheless, many thanks and good luck with the channel!
Monitor Audio too bright for me. I vote for the Pioneer ❤
I had the same concern until I used them with my Cambridge AXR100. Magic! No kidding. Really good. We will see how they do on the vintage gear. Thanks for returning and commenting.
The pioneer!
Voted for Accuphase because, well Accuphase but really curious about the Orchid Audio
(try both with the MXN10 ;-) )
Thanks. That was the plan. I will use the MXN10 as source and to feed some outboard DACs like the Geshelli J2 and the Bifrost Multi-Bit. Watch this space.
Pioneer with the Wharfs
That will be a nice combo for sure. Consider it done. Thx.
Don't Tease me!
Braun speakers, please.
But with which amp??
Your call on the amp.
I, too, am an old guy who loves music and hifi gear. Although I have several 2-channel systems, none are considered “vintage”.
Wharfedale Diamonds with any source and electronics.
I agree. I had them running on the EVO150 and Holy moly was it amazing. I did have the sub on but still they imaged crazy. They are mine but normally with my youngest son. I may have to reposes them . Thx for watching.
Perfect, 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I say start with Class D, let's see what it can do plus save your back!
I have two very good class D units in house right now. The Cambridge EVO150 and an Orchard Audio Starkrimson Ultra amp. Two different beasts but both with real potential. I have reviewed the EVO150 already and it was good.
