Adding a second USB port for use with Android Auto/mp3 to a Peugeot/Citroen/DS 2020 2021 stereo

- I took my new 2021 2008 to bits to see if I could add a second USB port as I want to run Android auto for mapping and also have an MP3 dongle plugged in for music. Here are my findings!
You will need to shave off a couple of fins from the new connector, either that or you will need to find a plug with the correct fin placement but it took me all of 5 seconds to adapt mine :-)
It works perfectly now with android auto and a dongle playing music at the same time so RESULT!
Any questions please pop them below.
Here is the cable I ordered to give you an idea www.amazon.co....
Hello.
Is there a way to pass this new cable in the glovebox to connect there the chinese dongle for wireless android ?? This is my plan because i dont wamt cables in the center console because anyway i have wireless charging..
I no longer have the car so hopefully someone else can help
Hello, it seems the NAC is a "NAC EUR 19W4", at 2'39" in your video you remove a wire from the back of the NAC for putting a new USB cable. Do you know where the old wire go ? I have a Rifter and the same NAC with the two USB socket wired like you, and before deconnecting for adding a 2nd USB i'm just searching the maximum of info ! Thank you for your sharing.
Sorry buddy, it has been a while since I had this car so can't remember.
Obviously he was showing in reverse what he had already done, i.e. passing and plugging the new cable, instead of showing everything from a fresh start. So in y understanding this cable with the fins to be chopped was not there from factory, it's the new cable he bought from Amazon.
Hello. I've connected cabe into spare socket. Radio is saying 'MEDIA ERROR USB device not compatible, charging is available.' Any solution...
how about replacing the type C port. I bought same peugeot 2008 and my type C problem is broken. Any idea what cable i have to buy so I can replace it?
I no longer have the car but if anyone can offer help?
@@flaxvert No worries. I sold mine too. Thanks for the reply though.
Ciao, sai se si può aggiungere la videocamera frontale?
Non ho più l'auto quindi non posso controllare. Scusa.
Do You think in the Peugeot Rifter will works the same? In Source List i see two USB source but in the car i have only one USB :)
Figured it out yet? Mine has another one on the central control back but also not in the glovebox but another video I've seen (unfortunately in Spanish) has it installed into the glovebox in much the same way as this one here.
Can u send me the link?
Hello, can the secondary USB port thus obtained be used for Android Auto? Or is it only good for a USB Key? I have a Peugetot 208 (from 2022) and the NAC Continental is the same as the 2008 one.
I have the same doubt
That was the main point of such DIY project indeed, and the question remains unanswered!
EDIT: I found myself the definitive answer thanks to Peugeot forums: alas, there are two connectors on the rear of the Continental WAVE2 NAC for USB, but only #1 (the one already used from factory) is compatible with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The 2nd port can only be used for a USB thumb drive as shown in the video. However, the title of this UA-cam video is misleading as this new port cannot connect to AA or CarPlay.
TLDR; Android Auto / CarPlay can only be used with the right USB port of the center console on the dashboard.
@@fluxcapacitor if the first blue connector supports Android Auto, isn't it possible to pull that cable out and plug it in the second blue connector? That way you can connect the newly purchased cable in the first blue connector and support Android Auto???
@@fluxcapacitor What if you switch the connectors of the USB ports? For example, connect the right USB port to the #2 connector and the USB CarPlay dongle to the #1 connector. This way, the USB port on the console becomes a regular USB port, and you can hide the CarPlay dongle underneath the infotainment system. Would this work?
Hi, is there any way to replace the existing usb 1 port with a usb 3? The usb 1 doesn't provide enough power to charge my phone
No there isn't a way. I even tried using a 2 into 1 usb splitter lead but that didnt do any good, so my phone wouldn't charge fast enough wnen using maps. Annoying i know for such a new car.
Hi, can I ask, if you do know, what's the green cable/connector used for?
I no longer have the car so can't remember, sorry
Can I connect wireless carplay dongle to this?
I just tried it but it doesn't work... this car sucks
Hi, does the second usb provide apple CarPlay/android-auto support along with enough power to charge the mobile?
Hi, yes it will run android auto but it suffers the same issue as most head units where the power is so low that if, like me, you have a Samsung S21 Ultra you will struggle to get enough power to charge it. If the phone is using satnav, Bluetooth, mobile wifi and playing music then I find the phone gains around 1% power every 20 minutes :O
try a powered hub guys and find a 12v cig lighter adaptor to power it if it works then you could remove the guts of the cig lighter adaptor and hard wire it to the 12v acc line im curious if this will work.
Is there enough space to hide chinese wireless android auto /apple car play adapter? Would be great
Just ordered the cable. Will try that myself as I can't stand the ugly box on the center console.
I just straight up don't understand why Peugeot didn't fit such a device in the first place. What is the point of having a wireless charger if you still need to plug in a USB cable in order to get CarPlay?
Will try to keep you updated, don't hesitate to ask me again as I will 100% forget about this comment lmao
@@Viken_BE Best of luck! I'm eager to hear about how it went.
@@Viken_BEHey. Any luck?
I want to the same but i dont know if we can trust this vhinese adapters to be enclosed.
Where did you find the cable @@Viken_BE
Do we need to disconnect the car battery first?
There is no need to disconnect the battery.
Why dont we try a mini usb hub?
@@flaxvertI already installed mine!! Working perfectly!! Thanks for your video!!
@@mrwayne8018works with carplay or only charging?
@@dionisiskarageorgiou3822 just one of the ports work with carplay. Usually the one is already in use. What I did was to replace the cable that goes to the port near the lighter and then use the other cable to be able to connect the carplay from a port inside the armrest
